I would just like to say that I looked up those British comedians, some of there stuff was funny, but most was hard to understand cause I don't live there so I don't get why it's funny cause the things they talk about I can't relate to. It might be funny I just don't get it, which is prolly why you don't think American comedians are funny either
@xXcontrolldeniedXx Sorry, we're arrogant? Because the last time I checked, you lot are the most hated nation in the world, and you think you're fucking brilliant, don't you? It was an innocent question, as comedy from other cultures (eg France, Germany) I'd often not found funny by other cultures. So stop gobbling off you thick yank cunt and stop proving all the American stereotypes right.
A bit unconnected, but out of interest, how many yanks here have seen some popular British stand up, like Michael macintyre, frankie Boyle, Billy connolly. If you have, what do you think of it? I just can't find any American stand up that funny and I'm wondering whether Brit stand up is better or if it is just a cultural thing.
@caileansmith It's probably a cultural thing. See brits are all snobbish douche bags that think they are the only talented or smart people on the planet and everyone else is lowbrow trash. I guess that's why you would ask such a question. Who else would say that in a country of over 300 million people i find no one funny and it must be them and not me. If you don't find my comments funny or witty, take my word, it's you. you're a douche.
He may has well had said "Woody Allen, Jerry Seinfeld, Some other comedians. How do they write comedy? Comedians are great aren't they. My best advice to you is watch comedy, listen to jokes And remember - go to the three, try the zinger, bing bang bong and you're away"
If you can't do word games, crossword puzzles, understand word logic problems, write poetry, lyrics or short stories and you don't understand anything he is saying. Go learn how to write and use your brain first and then come back to trying to learn comedy later.
Complaining that you don't understand comedic wordsmithing before you first learn basic wordplay, results in an inability to entertain anyone with a play on words due to your concession to simply continue playing with yourself.
This video isn't for some of the people that have posted here!
For example, it won't turn an asshole in to a comedian!
That being said, this video is a good start as is just about any advice you could recieve from an experienced person in the intertainment industry.
However not just anybody can do it, I would recommend finding a comedy club that offers a workshop like Mark Ridley's comedy castle where Tim Allen started, and get some time behind the mic in front of a crowd!
i think he means a + b and c basically goes back around. A and B are the setup, and C comes later as the punchline for a and b... I dunno, im confused. lol
@HeartsTheory True. Entertainers keep their process a secret to make it seem magical. It isn't. The mechanics of writing a joke (or a song, play, etc.) aren't hard to learn.
@fisherlibermannutsc why not? you can teach people how to write music. you can teach people how to write a book. You confuse teaching people how to do something with teaching people how to do something WELL. I can play a piano but i can't play it well.
This isn't funny

Your right, you can teach someone how to write but I was thinking ultimatley it come down to the indivudal and how funny they are
fisherlibermannutsc 2 years ago
There are some aspects you can teach like how to structure stand up I think but for most of it i agree with you.

you have to be funny but even a funny person needs to know what they are doing. the best way to be funny is to watch other funny stuff
