@Recon071 Because it is written on a pentatonic scale, as is much Asian music. It means there are only five notes in the scale, versus the more typical seven notes in the Western major and minor scales. That's why it has a different sound. Lots of cultures use a pentatonic scale. Hope this helps. I knew being a music nerd would be useful someday.

My boyfriend is Kenyan and i heard it for the very first time when he and a couple of his mates sang it out. And then I so completely fell in love with it when i heard it at the Common Wealth Games. Just heard the Kenya anthem on the commonwealth games and I gotta say that its one of the best i ever heard. Its sounds so dramatic and heroic somehow. I get visions of the old Roman gladiator films of the 60's lol. Epic anthem, you should be proud of it.
