Hollywood these days doesn't have anybody who is as much as half decent as Sammy was. The heyday of this kind of stuff is long gone, to be replaced by producers who only care about putting on cardboard actors and a stale show.
There was Nothing "Mr. Entertainment" couldn't do.Sing, Dance, do Impressions, tell jokes and stories, Act in Comedy, Drama, you name it, he could do it instantaneously. He could finish up leftover time on live television by just ad lib. He was GREAT
7. Bing Crosby (You know this for three reasons—Bing was Sammys signature impression, Bing has a routine where he would tell people to relax their lips, and last Jerry states never mind any coaching from you- you take care of the orange juice ads—Bing was known for those ads)
@emerisle1 While that maybe true what you say about Bing, Sammy is doing Dean. "Dean" uses the nickname "Jer" which was Dean's nickname for Jerry. Also, “Jerry” is telling “Dean” to just take care of the orange juice stand (not ads). This is a reference to Dean and Jerry’s first two pictures “My Friend Irma” and “My Friend Irma Goes West” where Dean and Jer work at an orange juice stand.
I know. It doesn't make sense.....unless Sammy didn't lose his eye in '54 as is reported. Maybe he lost it '55 some time after this show. After many years have passed, dates are some times confused. Not saying that's the case here but it does happen.
I would love to see a list of people that he is impersonating. While the caricatures are all familiar to me, I can't always put a name to the mannerism.
does anyone know a good title for live footage of Mr. Davis Jr. performance(s)? I need to buy a DVD for my mom for the Holiday!!! Thank you! -Flanissimo

Where is the major motion picture on Sammy's life. He had an incredible life, from staring at age 5 on the chitlin circuit with his dad in the Will Maston Trio. The early Copa shows,The army, the car accident, working for JFK,Mae Britt I could go on. Spike Lee needs to make this movie.
I was 19 yrs old in 1955 when I first saw this truely Greatest Entertainerin the world, sing dance play any musical instrument im now 71 and sammy's gone thanks for the great memories u tube

It's everyone's business, except yours. Go have yourself another beer and chill. Oh, by the way, Have you noticed that we both use the number 7 (yours at the beginning, mine the end)in our sign in names?
more talent than all the RAT PACKERS. sing dance comedy impressions act WOW. I love the RAT PACK. they were the best when they were all on the stage. Top that Justin Timberlake, R-Kelly, Bobby Brown and who ever you want to say.
Sammy was great! Nobody can compare. That's what real talent was and is. I miss him. Just talking with others about him today. Lots of people feel the same.
Sammy was without a doubt was the worlds greatest entertainer. I loved him when I was a kid and Frank, and Dean and the rest. Sammy was way cool. Man I really him.
Jolson was always recognised as 'the worlds greatest entertainer' but Im certain that if he had witnessed Sammy, even Jolie would have agreed that the title was worthy of Sammy !
My grandma still says to stay out of lakes and stuff...you'll get POLIO!!! Not that its a joking matter, but still she cracks me up. I miss sammy when he was on Jerry's Telethon every year...someone put a clip of him singing Candy Man please?
this man gave way for brothers like Eddie griffin, eddie murphy, dave chappelle, martin lawrance, bernie mac etc because of him black males will always have a place in comedy, but if james brown is the godfather of soul. Sammy is the GOdfather of comedy
Nice clip. Polio was a huge scare in those days. Interestingly, 1955 was the very year in which Salk's vaccince started to be distributed. The last case of polio in the US was in 1994.
Nobody did it better than Sammy.

I don't know if you guys noticed this but I think this is before Sammy had his car accident. He doesn't appear have a glass eye here.

Funny, this says it's from 1955, and his car accident was in 1954. I watched it a couple of times too, and both eyes track.
