  • you need to send it back, they installed the logo's backwards... ;)

  • just ordered this setup. so excited to get it.

  • those walls look fake. Nice tone though.

  • Interesting how your camera reversed the image. Dr. Z is offering a "tone-stack bypass" mod for $150.00. Step on the footswitch and the signal bypasses the tone controls. Major increase in gain and earlier breakup. Suppose to get a very "tweed" type of tone. In 2010, it will be offered as an option on all new Maz 18&38's.

  • These amps kick ass!!

  • Damn dude, nice playing ;) \m/

  • Great playing and vid man. Ur strings are abit to thin to match the great SRV sound though:-P

  • Come on man, you ain't gonna get the SRV tone playing through an 18 watt amp recorded into a video camera. Didn't SRV line up multiple Supers at the threshold of pain?? Seriously, this video shows incredible dynamics and tone at a really manageable volume. Hats off to this guy, he can play.

  • I heard it was a Vibroverb fit with a 15" speaker.

And, even though it might not be the right amp, heavy gauge strings does affect the sound quite a bit :-)

  • True, but I don't know many people who can maintain more than 20 minutes of string bending with a set of .11's or 12's. I know of people who have had to go to an .08/.09 guage because of wrist issues. It isn't worth losing the ability to play. Just my opinion, other ways to fatten tone. Ask Billy Gibbons about that. No offense by the way, I was just really impressed with this guys tone. Bet this amp miked through a nice PA sounds huge.

  • well... First remember that SRV was tuned down 1/2 tone to Eflat--makes a big difference in tension. Also, on the first 2 albums he played through Dumble amps--used a Marshall on the second album on the Hendrix tune.

  • Great video, great tone and great guitar playing. I owned a Dr. Z Maz 18 for about a year until I finally let it go. Basically, the amps sound great, but are very unforgiving. It that sense I think this video does a great job of revealing this unforgiving aspect of the amp. There is very little coloration to your tone and every little nuance comes through. This is absolutely fantastic indeed. However I found my Victoria Bassman to be much more forgiving while being similarly pleasing to the ear

  • So basically.. what your trying to get to is this.... If your not very good.. then the Dr Z will eat you alive.

  • @sanders4617

this is true with every high quality amp in my opinion. Basically, if you don't need to improve your playing when you buy a new amp, it was never really an upgrade :p

  • @sanders4617 ...Indeed...I have the MAZ SR..INTO OLD 30'S......F'n awesome...alnico too !!

  • What did you get instead?

  • kind of strange.....Z's reversed....

  • chances are it's a flipped video, i think

  • agreed. why would he photoshop that in? plus, the weird pattern moves at the end - is he a video graphics expert too?

    sounds great, they're nice amps.

  • this is not photoshopped why the hell would i photoshop this? to make believe I bought the amp? lol... its a salt and pepper checkerboard type grill.. lol.. you guys are idiots

  • totally photoshopped

  • fake
