i love parelli and i love there horses! i want to learn more about them. pats wife is linda parelli. i never rode a horse before but soon i am going to ask my friend if i could ride her horse and go on trails. in the summer i think her mom is letting me ride a horse and is teaching me about horses. i cant wait for summer!
i want to go to one of these tours so badly! I've been doing parelli with my horse and it has helped SO MUCH! i dont understand why people think it makes their horse dangerous or doesnt work when really they probably didn't have enough patience to keep trying or did it wrong. ever since ive been doing parelli my horse follows me around, responds to the lightest suggestion, and respects me. plus, we're only just starting level 2!
They are operating as a team, no force. The big green ball has helped my young horse get used to cars etc as having something coming along fast up behind him used to make him panic, now he is braver because we can play with this ball in safety of the arena. He likes to play with it now, roll it along and bite it, this helps your horse want to be with you for fun and play, they look forward to spending time with their human! Enough slavery - lets work on team building, trust and respect!
i think that most people will not get to this skill level of this video and that it is not realistic for most. it shows people what can be done but it takes alot of money and time to get to this kind of level
i have seen clinton anderson in person and i have watched parelli and i have had trainers that were old school to a point. Clintons training helped me a great deal , i think training depends totaly on the horse not all forms of training work for all horses and you need to find what works. i think old school training with some natural horsemanship was what worked for my horse.
WOW OMG I am so glad I got to see this now I know when I am working cows and there is a GIANT green ball in the way I know that with parelli training I can overcome that obstical and get through my day without worry. HAHA this guy is a guntzel and why people believe him and want a worthless horse you can jump over a can or bounce a ball on is beyond me, unless I guess trail riders probably like him
Well I guess you are just too stupid to see beyond the green ball. That is typical of straight-line thinkers...limited brain capacity, blinkered vision, zero imagination. I almost feel sorry for you... almost!
well, I was not going to waste my time with responding... but seems to me that you are a parelli lover, so I would like you to tell me what his horses do that you will actually ever use for anything. I am never going to need to bounce a big ball, jump over a bench or a cow print garbage can, and none of his horses do a good stop, spin, etc. So what is so great about him, lol and dont say he has a bond with them, he just sells that to get your money.
I am so glad that you almost feel sorry for me, because I will almost feel sorry for you if we ever meet up and my non parelli horse smokes your parelli horses ass
Actually, I had heard of him but never seen him operate before I saw this. I have owned, trained and ridden horse of all disciplines for over 40 years, and almost all of it following the teachings of Tom Dorrance and Ray Hunt. I once actually had the privilege of meeting them both at a western ride-in in the late 1980's where I was able to get Ray to sign a copy of his book "Think Harmony with Horses" . Your horse may be able to "smoke" mine, but I don't smoke, so it will be a hollow victory.
ok so what were we supposed to see past the big green ball...I asked for an example of what his horses do so great...you wouldn't have commented if you didn't think something...idc what other people you have followed, I would just like to know what you are able to see in his horses that is so great, but even you who are defending him, you do not see anything because if you did you would have told me about it, not about other things you have done or not done in your life.
@mscanchaser1 - Not everyone owns horses for work. Some own them to compete on, some own them just for the sheer pleasure of owning and riding a horse. What do I see past the green ball? I see a calm trustworthy mount that trusts its rider, the green ball is merely a demonstartion of that trust; most horses would have bolted. Its not too dissimilar from teaching a dog to play fetch. 90% of the time it has no practical purpose whatsoever. Its usually for fun, play, or a means to teach obedience.
Barnbrat, Linda has been out of the hospital and in complete recovery and riding - no helmet. I reiterate and so does Pat, if you need all that protective gear on, stay off horses. You need to know your horse inside and out, how he feels before getting on. That's why Pat and Linda give permission to GET OFF before something happens. Pat has been doing this for 30 years. A novice cannot do the things Pat does without going through the program which takes sometimes years to do.
"Linda was cantering Remmer in a field when he tripped and stumbled for about 20 feet trying to regain his balance. At the end he fell and pitched on his nose. Linda was knocked out for a few minutes and under his feet when he tried to get up. So she was bruised on her body and legs and got 4 broken ribs." Maybe parelli savvy horses are so safe you don't need body protectors either! FFS wise up people!
My hat will keep my head safe! Does parelli stop your horse from tripping/having an illness? You can still have an accident, what if a stupid driver in a car hits you? I could go on and on and not one of these reasons what have anything to do with how parelli safe your horse is! Wise up people and stop swallowing every word that comes out of the parelli savvy camp! Nothing wrong with getting a 'parelli safe' horse but please have an open mind to other methods and common sense!
Hi, I would just like to add that was Linda's horse so safe and savvy when in fell and she ended up in hospital (wearing no hat). Wearing a hat is a good idea and so people in a postion of power should not discourage it esp to kids .... adults that know the risks should be free to make their own mind up ... I mean why do I care if they brain themselves!
I think faithyhope has an excellent point. you never know what could happen. your horse might spook at the wrong instant and the rider could be thrown or fall. I've been trained to wear a helmet, but I don't think anyone has the right to say do or don't wear one. If you value your head, protect it. If you don't want to wear one, that is your choice and nobody should judge for that. working with horses increases the risk of head injury. but then again, a fallin tree branch might be more dangerous
Those of you not in the know, you just don't do what Pat Parelli does unless you go through the program. You don't just hop on a horse and do that stuff without the prior proper preparation that goes into it.
in western its tradition to not wear riding hats as the horses are trained better than the average horse and therefor when the rider looses balence or falls or anythin the horse is trained to stop or go at a slower pace to get the rider back on in the ryt position so when the horses know what to do to fix what could happen then there is no need for saftey hats ;)
pat parelli is amazin i tryed to do the ball thing wif ma arabian called silver but she was havin none of it and kicked the ball up and it was so funny coz she kicked it up and it jst came back down and hit her on the head XD!!!!!!!!!

But since all horses are ultimately free-willed animals I don't think its ethical to condone a lack of hats. After all *these* horses may be well trained, but not all are, and the worst thing would be a over confident or foolish young rider to jump on a horse without a hat, and to take a fatal fall. Not all falls can be prevented, but the severity of a head injury can be... and it's unwise for anyone to promote or condone a lack of hat.
MissFaithyHope, if you need to wear a safety hat, then you need to stay off of horses. Parelli is all about safety and how to prevent accidents before they happen.
I completely disagree, and you are foolish to suggest otherwise. Seatbelts are worn in cars, rock climbers wear harnesses and motorbikers wear helmets... because nothing can be predicted. Even in an apparently well trained animal you should wear a safety hat. It is completely irresponsible to suggest otherwise as you do not know what may affect that horse (and rider), or when. No one can possibly be a totally safe horse rider, it is always a risk, but why then further risk a fatal head injury?
There are less accidents with the Parelli program. Not all motor cyclists wear helmets. Some law enforcement officers do not wear seat belts either, but force others to. No, nothing can be predicted. The 3-day Eventing Cross-Country should be outlawed it endangers the horse and the rider. Do they change it? No! You as a rider are responsible and need to learn how to be a partner with your horse so that when something does happen you know how to deal with it.
@MissFaithyHope: I have to agree with you on that! Western riders (me, beeing one myself, beginner) should wear helmets as everybody else! I adore Par Parelli, Jean Francois Pignon and a little bit Monty Roberts - but do them wear helmets when they ride? Nope! Except from Jean; they both ride western - and all they (and other western riders) have on their head, is a hat made of leather or filt!
@pmarzo1 Completly stupid and ignorant. How dare you people think that you dont need to wear helmets cause YOUR horses are safe when everyone elses arent. Complete ARROGANCE
