i remember catching the enemy carrier only one time (randomly) in about 200 hours gameplay. And i tried hard to catch him because i thought this would be a big final fight. Actually it was a hard fight but boring.
This game is awesome i hope the remake by bohemia interactive will have the same touch as this version. In this old game you could do plan pretty tactical missions for island conquering.
BTW, the enemy carrier could move through an island... and it got from zero to top speed in a fraction of a second, while the player had a very slow start with his own carrier. Ah well, who cares, at least that provided a challenge for getting and sinking that bastard...
That was really one of my absolute favorites on the ST. Although after a while I figured out a simple way to pwn the computer at every game; build 3 resource and 3 factory islands first, and then defense islands everywhere else. The computer was so slow in taking a defense island, while I always did it with a kamikaze plane, taking only a minute.
I was 7 when I played this game on my Atari ST...i didnt even know there was an enemy carrier, and still enjoyed it and subconciously knew that this game was special.
I'd love to see an updated Carrier Command. I think one of the things that needs addressing is running out of carrier fuel. The other is lack of ultra long range for the Walruses and Mantas. My idea would be that you could use longer range comms with a Manta, go to a friendly island, and take enough fuel back to the carrier for it to complete the journey to the target island, or at least the closest one. Or, the daring player could attempt to steal fuel from a nearby ENEMY island!
Perhaps a 'chain' of Walruses or Mantas, or a combination, with existing long range pods could be used. The other thing that could be added to is the programming of Walruses and Mantas. Beyond telling them to go somewhere, and at what speed, you can't do much in terms of 'programming'. I'd beef this up so you could program a Manta or two as decoys to overfly an enemy island to draw fire, whilst a manually-controlled Walrus plants a virus bomb in the command centre! Comments?
CC was definitely cool... I just never managed to subdue the enemy air force... the controls were just aweful.
And next time show a little more effort in presenting the game, please. Shooting at one's own Manta because you don't know how to steer it (see above) is no way to achieve a mission goal.
Wow, just look at it! Brilliant stuff, my brother and I were addicted to this game. Even now it doesn't look half bad twenty years down the line. Makes me want to play it again!
that 3d looks sweet!

@xtom1973 its coming was predictable when it came to take over border islands, only timing and waiting and there it was, short battle and game over.

A similar game is "Hostile Waters". It´s not as open as Carrier Command. It´s mission based.

Incidentally, does anybody know if you can download Carrier Commmand from the web onto PC?

I've still got this on Spec+3. Not played it for about 15 years though. Think it was the biggest game for the Spec.

Großartiges Spiel. Habe es in meiner Kindheit oft gespielt.
Zwar habe ich rückblickend die Grafik besser in Erinnerung, dennoch klasse Spiel.
Danke fürs uploaden :)

One Manta.
One twin-turret laser pod.
A full tank of fuel, and full speed ahead.
Goodbye, Carrier Omega.
