Making the furnace was easy. I used 24 bricks, 6 in each layer.
I left a gap between two of the bricks in the first layer so I could blow air in.
On top of the first layer I put steel wire mesh so that the charcoal could sit on it and the air can still get underneath. I then put three more layers of bricks on top and chucked in the charcoal.

I got the ore in its pure form as a chemical from ebay. Just search for "Copper Carbonate".
