Looking at the phantom of the Opera from a different angle. I like it. It's as if Christine loves living in this dream world with the phantom, and feels alone without it. Which is probably true.
This is by far the best version of On My Own in my opinion. Frances Ruffelle is amazing! Maybe it is because it was the first one I knew, but I just love the way she sings it - I find some of the later versions to be too forceful.
@PebbleMae This is indeed a movie. It's called The phantom of the opera and this is the 2004 version.I don't know where you can see it online, but you can definetly rent it.
marrying 2 great plays together. Great idea! I like Phantom, but I've always thought that musically, Le Mis is better. Who is it that's singing in this video? Whoever it is, it is an excellent voice.
@MovieMakerGirls1996 wow so apparently you really dont understand the aspect of fanvids. let me fill you in: they are videos with clips from movies set to music that may or may not be sung by the actors. i hoped that helped with your confusion there.
I love frances ruffle's version she the original and she has a unique quicky tone to her voice everyone else does good but france's version is the only one that can make me team eponine
hmm. Les Mis in a montage of POTO.....Idk about that dude. It sorta kinda works. I don't like the version of the song or the way this Eponine performs it though and it's one of my favorites from Les Mis :/
Someone at my school did this, and I didn't think it was a very good song, and I just listened to this and it is really good so I know the singer sucks. :-)
she said that she mixed videos with tracks, if you are talking about the poster of this video, then think before you act. if you are talking to someone else, then i apologise.
oh, and it isn't an opera you idiot, it is a musical, it is not all sung, it is a story with music, not music with a story.

I LOVE this song and am a huge Eponine fan, and Phantom of the Opera in another one of my favorite musicals; but I don't really think that these two stories go together very well.
but kudos to you anyway, this video is insanely well made!
This might have worked if the person she's referring to in the song were Christine's father. But the whole point of the song is that the girl is in love with someone who doesn't love her - which is the exact OPPOSITE of the case with Christine and the Phantom (he is not only in love with her, but obsessively so, and angsts because she doesn't love him).
Maybe you could do a weird gender reversal where the singer represents the Phantom's voice?
I think it would work better it it was about the phantom rather than Christine... Christine isn't exactly on her own, at least not at this point with Raoul and Erik (The phantom DOES have a name, people. Read Gaston Leroux's "The phantom of the opera".) Moving on... but Erik IS on his own... And Christine is more like Marius than Eponine...
if you are talking about the book upon which Phantom of the Opera is based, you must be joking. the book is TERRIBLY written. this is one of the very rare instaces where the movie is FAR BETTER than the book
I didn't think the book was awesome, but it was interesting. I'm glad to have read it. I've also seen the older movies (not musicals). And of course this movie and the musical live on stage :-)
wow who could have thought "on my own" with clips from the Phantom could actually work well together?? Well anyone who doesn't think so should def. watch this video. It was so awesome!=D great job!*
he helped fantine, he 'adopted' cosette nd he avoided getting caught by that Javert guy for yrs
Eponine is a gud character but for wat she did 2 cosette when dey were kids doesnt make her a nice character. shes spoilt really. she wanted Marius when she kne he really loved cosette, least she did the right thing in the end and joined the two together
There's never really any proof that Eponine was horrible to Cosette. Only Mme Thenardier was terrible to her. She WAS *SPOILED* (not spoilt) but became a waif. She's not spoiled anymore. At any rate, the musical is set up so that the audience is supposed to like Eponine and not Cosette. And you can't honestly tell me you weren't ever a little greedy. Is it so terrible to want the one you love?
there is a part in the begginging when eponine is a child that she tells her mother cosette wasn't doing her work (this is in only one version i have seen), but then she more than makes up for it when she dies trying to deliver a message to marious (spell check)
I respectfull disagree...the strongest song in Les Mis is the duet bet. Marius and Eponine(A Little Fall of Rain)....And the strongest character is Gavroche...little people...I agree that Cosette's character mooches of her daddy and is a spoiled brat....
Yes that is indeed a very strong song as well, since it concludes Eponine (hehe). No it's true, I really love this song as well. Gavroche is strong too, yet Eponine shows her pain so beautifully.
I love this song as well. Eponine is one of my favorite characters. This pairing between Phantom and Les Mis, however, bugs me to no end.
They just don't FIT. I really don't like it when people mix musicals. Don't get me wrong, I mean, it's very well made, and this version of On My Own (I recognize Frances Ruffelle) is my favorite. It just wasn't very well thought through.
I think it depends on your prospective. I mean, 'technically' it doesn't go with the actual Phantom story, but if anyone can find a way for it to work in their mind, then good for them.
Nice video BTW, carolynroxsox. I love the version On My Own that you chose. :)
THANK GOD!!!! Someone finally uses a DECENT recording of it. Although to me, the Original London Cast (the one used here) is by far the best one out there. ALL HAIL FRANCES RUFFELLE, the BEST Eponine in Les Miserables history (well, in my opinion she is)
i like this song n great job on the video! my 2 favorite broadway shows but i dont like this version of on my own. is this the original broadway cast recording?? because if it is then maybe im hearing things lol
Carolyn, I beg of you to never again mix Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. They don't need each other for support and as you hopefully have noticed they have done fine on broadway on their own. You must realize that this will only confuse some people (thespian-whatever) who do not have a cultured bone in their body.
I am pretty sure this is Frances Ruffelle. I have this song on a cassette tape somewhere. I believe this is the original version and at some point they changed it to the lyrics we know today, not sure when the change occured though.
It's also not Frances...I think it's not anyway. Notice the different lyrics in the beginning. Just asking since I'm not a Les Mis expert: Is this the original cast recording (that was NOT done on Broadway and lacks Colmishness)?
lea salonga's version is better than yours

You should take that up with Claude-Michel Schoenberg, etc. for writing it.

It's also not Frances...I think it's not anyway. Notice the different lyrics in the beginning. Just asking since I'm not a Les Mis expert: Is this the original cast recording (that was NOT done on Broadway and lacks Colmishness)?

That is indeed Frances Ruffle and this was from the oringnal london cast recording.
