This is by far the best version of On My Own in my opinion. Frances Ruffelle is amazing! Maybe it is because it was the first one I knew, but I just love the way she sings it - I find some of the later versions to be too forceful.

This might have worked if the person she's referring to in the song were Christine's father. But the whole point of the song is that the girl is in love with someone who doesn't love her - which is the exact OPPOSITE of the case with Christine and the Phantom (he is not only in love with her, but obsessively so, and angsts because she doesn't love him).

Maybe you could do a weird gender reversal where the singer represents the Phantom's voice?

Christine isn't exactly on her own, at least not at this point with Raoul and Erik (The phantom DOES have a name, people. Read Gaston Leroux's "The phantom of the opera".) There's never really any proof that Eponine was horrible to Cosette. Only Mme Thenardier was terrible to her. She WAS *SPOILED* (not spoilt) but became a waif. She's not spoiled anymore. At any rate, the musical is set up so that the audience is supposed to like Eponine and not Cosette. And you can't honestly tell me you weren't ever a little greedy. Is it so terrible to want the one you love?
