Magic Springs was not shut down due to this ride, there were never any deaths on it. I've lived here all my life and rode The Roaring Tornado too many time to count. The last company that owned the park when it was just Magic Springs was having alot of financial difficulties, I assume he sold The Roaring Tornado to try to make money to keep the park running. The park ultimately was closed down for non payment of utilities and taxes.
I remember this roller coaster growing up! I just hated climing those stairs to get to the top of the ride! I loved it, but it got boring after a while. I used to pray that they added on to the end, lol
Actually, this one is now at Elitch Gardens and now called the "Sidewinder." The Diamondback in Frontier City came from Six Flags Great America where it was called "Lightening Loops." Anyone remember the Zyklon?
I for one wasn't around to ride it and after what happened i'm thankful for that...it was thanks to that ride that magic springs earned the unfortunate nickname of Tragic Springs and was the result in the park closing for quite awhile
does anyone know why they shut it down?? I do, my friends dad was there one day and didnt want to ride it, but his friends did. So he waited for them and he was about to leave, and one of the cars broke off and 3 people died that day. One of those people was my her dad's best friend. They shut the park down after that for about 8 or 9 years.
they shut down tha park in 1995 b/c they wasnt payin there bills. but tha state opened bak up in 2000. its open now and its better than it was but i still miss the old magic springs
@annagirldiva I think you're making all this up. I've never heard of anyone dying on this coaster, and I've been going to Magic Springs since the early 80s. The Roaring Tornado was removed from the park after the 1989 season, but the park didn't close until 6 years later, after the 1995 season. The park closing didn't have anything to do with the Roaring Tornado.
Brings back a lot of memories. FYI...the name of the coaster was "The Roaring Tornado". My very first summer job was at Magic Springs way back before corporate america took it over. Thanks for posting the video of a short but sweet rc. BTW, I set a park record for consecutive rides on this coaster, 118 without getting off. I still pay for it today. Stomach never has been the same.
Thank You so much! I have been racking my brain trying to think of the name of it! Now my mind is at ease!! Roaring Tornado! Hearing it finally!! LOL I rode it 6 times in one time thats only cause the park was very slow and the guy just let us stay on! Gotta say that IT was the Best Time I've ever had an any amusement park since! ;o)~ Thanks again Danny!

Does anyone know the REAL reason this coaster was removed from Magic Springs after the 1989 season? I've never heard of anyone dying on it.
Also, too bad this video doesn't have sound. This coaster made a loud roaring noise that was unique.
