I Thank God for the people like him! His talk inspired me so much! Let us try our best to share Baha'u'llah's Words with people like how he and the other dear souls did!
I too had the bounty to cross paths with Phil several times before his transition to eternal life. Periodically, he would come to Okla to work with Native American themes. I treasure 4 index cards of notes taken at a Baha'i sponsored event in the Tulsa area in the 1990's. Once a year these notes are viewed to remind me how SIGNIFICANT are the Native peoples. Their contributions will cast much light on humanity in these days of financial tribulation.
One of the few People I can say truly had an influance on me and i only met him once
When the people truly begin to realize this time we live in an are trully educated what a day to live in the path is now wide enough for whole families clans and tribes to tread down we are so lucky to live in this day
this time of the 7th generation
the hopi have known of it
black elk dreamt of it
wavoka taught of it
we have this blessing our children and our childrens children can live in it
So sorry to hear of his departing. He visited Alaska where we were living and was always an inspiration and educator for all. We sang his songs often.
What a fitting and appropriate permanent memorial to celebrate Phil's life! As 'Abdu'l-Baha said in Tablets of the Divine Plan: "Attach great importance to the indigenous population of America... should they be educated and guided, there can be no doubt that they will become so illumined as to enlighten the whole world."
Phil wrote and performed a song in the late 60s, early 70s - Mount Your Steeds, O Heroes of God! It was based on the Sacred Teachings of Baha'u'llah, Whose Coming fulfilled the prophecies of the indigenous peoples of the Americas. Phil's response to the Teachings was in fulfillment of the Writings of 'Abdu'l-Baha - to be continued....
Blessings and thanks to Phil Lucas for his groundbreaking work to address the social issues of native peoples as they strive to maintain their place in the contemporary world. His passing on Feb 6, 2007, opens a door to the Greater World where, God willing, his achievements will be even more far reaching.
Wnderful story

He was a good friend, teacher and person. Everything he taught me I use everyday. I miss him, but his words always will guide me.
Phil, we all miss you.
