  • Slance, are there any videos of this song performed live? I can't find any!!!!!!

  • Awesome, Brings me back to High School.

  • A CARS song without keyboards would be like a SNICKERS bar without peanuts.

  • @Benjamin470908 I agree this is a beautiful song.

  • I have never found a live performance of this beautiful song if someone has something plese post is this is the first song I ever heard from The Cars and I fell in love with Ben's voice and since that day until now I'm looking for a video to see Ben sing this song. Thanks

  • Love this song! You know, if The Cars would re-mix this without the synth keyboards, this song would be all Rock and Roll.

The keyboards, starting at 0:49 and at 1:38, sound like the Disneyland Electric Parade Music. This song would sound so much better without that in the song.

Just my 2 cents about it....LOL "The Cars Rock"!

( I wonder if The Cars first created that sound or if Disney did?)

  • @JesusFreakJene No don't touch a thing on this song! Actually, you might be right - but there is the need to cut in with something there to keep it interesting. The keyboard sound never bothered me.

Funny how some musicians complain about The Cars - boring chord progressions, etc. I think that once they tightened up, went minimal and wrote hooks - which is what you must do, you know, to get hooks - it made the Rock and Roll MASTERPIECES we have now, known as The Cars eponymous and Candy-O.

  • Just a different vocal take as opposed to a demo. Interesting.

  • joed3433 There was a live perfornance of this. I distinctly remember seeing it on the Midnight Special the same night they performed Lets's Go.( Fall 1979 ) I had loved the song and was delighted that they were performing it .

  • i'm not an expert on drummers by any means. as a matter of fact, i used to believe most drummers were an interchangeable part of most rock bands. then i heard ric ocasek's solo albums, and it was then, that i realized, david robinson is a fantastic drummer! he indeed has his own unique style, that is forever entwined with the sound of The Cars. great song version, thanks for uploading.

  • @LuckyDeb61.. very true on the loss 2 to fans. This was the first 8 Track I ever bought. This was my favorite song. I still have the 8 track and it still works.

  • I dont think this is a demo...I think this is the actual tune just in an early state of mixing.

  • @known12 I agree..It's just missing a harmony track and the guitar solo track.

  • Slance 1 does it again!!!! Thanks for posting this great song

  • @ the Pokerfacemama - Nope, unfortunately there is no live version anywhere...they never did one. Not even of the studio version. If the subject ever came up (as I believe it did) Benjamin Orr simply refused to sing it live. I'm sure he had his reasons, but it's a great loss to us fans.

  • Elliot Easton was just a boy that could play like a MAN

  • "when I was crazy, I thought you were great" ....exactly how all of my relationships started.....LOL. This is WONDERFUL...Thanks for sharing!

  • anybody got a live version of this killer tune?!!!

  • @JHBguru1 They never did it live...supposedly because Benjamin Orr didn't like to sing it and refused to sing it live.

  • @LuckyDeb61 Is there a music video of this song?

  • awesome version of a great song,thanx

  • David Robinson was such an underrated drummer--by shifting the "four" beat over to the next eighth-note he creates a verse groove that identifies the song. And of course Greg Hawkes with his distinctive countermelodies...

  • Nice version of one of my favorite songs!

  • This is my favorite song musical grup and song by The Cars. I was the lunch DJ at Cupertino High School in 1978 and 1979 and often played The Cars.

Thank you for sharing this version. It is cool to here demo songs.

    Cupertino, Ca.

  • sweet version

  • Many thanks for posting this! :)

  • Thank you so much for this! This song is my favorite of Ben's vocal performances withThe Cars. I love this, thanks!!! :D

  • THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS......basic song is there. Loved hearing this version where 2nd guitar coming in is not falling down to that last lower chord.....just love hearing work in progress like this. Later on Elliot added one killer guitar solo and of course Ben made the melody even more pretty on final recording. Loved this! One demo that was really really really raw was the demo for NIGHT SPOTS - ever hear it - amazing - no where near the song it became on Candy-O LP. CHEERS /

  • The kings of cool. I loved these guys. Two perfect albums - self titled debut and Candy-O. Not a bad song in the bunch. Guitar is brought up in the mix and vocals a bit buried here. Basic elements of this hit are there though. Thanks for posting.

  • Instrumentally, this is a next-to-final mix, imo,. The tracks used are identical to the original, but in slightly different order than the original I think. The vocal is Definitely a demo, version.

  • <3 it

  • Omg that shirt ben has. What is it called? IT looks cool :)

    <3 the cars

  • Sounds like they added some backing vocals and a guitar solo to the song later and made some arrangements with Ben's lines.... Anyway, very nice!
