  • Hey, it's the guy from How I Met Your Mother

  • haha with this hair style he loks like Kafka

  • He was and still is very handsome. Oh, I hope he doesn't read this...........!

  • Doesnt he look like Robert Downey Jr in chaplin?

  • @redrandomz96 I thought he kinda resembled Casey Affleck.

  • Stephen is awesome but that was just terrible

  • He's so... little and young!

  • Stephen was 26 years old.

looks and sounds exactly the same, hahaha

    he's so beautiful.

  • What's with the Egon Spengler hairdo?

  • Is that Tina Fey?

  • @NickZedd1 No, Aliza Shalowitz

  • kinda looks like seth green

  • Fuck, Stephen looks beautiful in this.

  • @boomstickblues OMG, I know right?

  • leave Fred alone, he don't like to talk because he has squeaky voice.

  • Wow. He looked like Robert Downey, Jr. 19 years ago.

  • @DaftSwank I know, right? The resemblance is eerie... :-O

  • Love seeing Paul Dinello there for like 2 seconds.

  • worst "break up the door" ive ever seen xD

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! pretty bad.

  • The contrast between Colbert and the woman is incredible. He's so natural where as she seems stiff and amateur.

  • @CynicalSavior everyone in the scene seems pretty janky to me

young colbert kinda freaks me out

im glad he got famous when he did

  • i love this skit

  • Is that a young Jill Talley?

  • or harold ramis

  • In most of this he strangely looks like young Robert Downey Jr.

  • he does

  • I thought that was just me. he really does

  • yeah i was about the post the very same thing.

  • This is amazing!

  • he looks EXACTLY the same. EXACTLY.

  • He has charisma thats pretty rare

  • He has hair!

  • was that a typewriter Fred was using?!

  • yes, that would be an analog word processing device ;-)

  • @pa6xylly I learned how to type on a typewriter in 1995. They were still in use believe it or not.

  • He wore contacts then I guess.

  • lol colbert that was pretty good lol

  • he has gotten better over time COLBERT FOREVER!

  • Wow it's so cool to see him from so many years ago---he had that perfect comedy timing that he continues to have now. Great guy!!

  • *Giggle* His hair is so big.

  • Comment removed

  • Hah. How? I love how absoultely ridiculous he looks at everything. Most of it being politics.

  • i feel kinda dumb, but what is the joke at the end?

  • every point Stephen is trying to make is about good corporate communications skills - but as Fred's manager this is the first time he ever set foot in Fred's office. Point being that Stephen was being hypocritical as a manager.

  • ah, i see now! I guess i had a dumb moment. thanx 4 that! Colbert is a legend!

  • I love Stephen in this, but that girl just seems so unimportant. She actually looks as if shes holding onto his butt the whole time.

  • "In reference to your comment a few seconds ago..." :)

It reminded me of Cleese's office tapes right away, so seeing that they were actually auditioning for that makes sense. I'd say they were spot on!

  • lol this was one year BEFORE I was bornxD Weird too se. LOL.. He is awesome:)

  • Love the eyebrow at 0:19.

I actually learned to do that because of him.

  • THE ROCK SAYS!

  • his hair cracks me up, look at that fro

  • LOL young colbert also makes the eye brow move :P

  • I love Stephen but in this it looks like his body has yet to grow into his head like a puppy that needs to grow into it's huge paws.

  • @insanesugarpain you know he was like 25 at the time right?

  • wow how old it this?

  • 1989 - to my knowledge the first videos ever shot with Stephen, Paul, and Aliza...

they were demos for John Cleese's training film company

  • hahaha 1:22

  • yes, a low low budget for special effects

  • His voice is annoyting in this.

  • He's so young!!! <3 <3 <3

  • He reminds me a bit of old school actors like Bogart...especially his voice

  • holy young colbert!

  • Oh man, he is so freaking sexy. And a Paul cameo!

  • deadsexy

  • colbert is so yummy! of course, excluding the hair...

  • I was just going to say that... Yum.

  • genius

  • Colbert's hair is HUGE.

  • Fred Fred!!

  • That was hilarious.

  • "stand back i'm going to break down the door!" hilarious! the door is already open, plus it's on the wrong side! omg genius. XD XD

  • Stephen is beauty. :) Stephen is love.

  • lol funny actually. i guess they really had to improvise with props and stuff..cause he was tryint o break down the door the wrong way, and somehow manages to be on the other side when he does. if that makes sense...lol. i almost didnt recognize him for a sec. pretty cool to him in the younger days.

  • these were all demos shot for John Cleese's production company on the Second City Chicagio ETC stage - so correct no budget and just stage props we had on hand for ETC shows

  • thats pretty cool. really makes me think that stephens success didnt really happen over night, ive been a fan of his for several years now, i love footage like this! peace!

  • typewriters... what year is this, 89?

  • yes, 1989, Chicago Second City ETC

  • this man is the love of my life

  • aww he looks so cute

  • does anyone else think that Colbert looks like egon Spengler from ghostbusters in this

  • gottstogo, tip of the hat to you, sir!

  • nice vintage!

  • hes really cute!!!!!! hes also really skinny here

  • I just saw the woman in this sketch a few weeks ago...she was traveling with second city...she was funny...

  • And look at around :18! XD That eyebrow! ROFL

  • Oh my god, I hadn't noticed that XDD And on the wrong side!

  • lol he can do that on both sides you know x]

  • OMG.. XDDDD

  • Ah!

I was already planning on taking classes at Chicago's Second City after college, and these just make me even more excited about it.

Plus, Stephen Colbert's one of my heroes.

  • sooooooo cute!

  • thanks for posting these they're great! how old are they?

  • 1990 - when we were all at The Second City/Chicago. Think they are first sketch comedy vids ever for Stephen, Paul Dinello, Steve Carell, etc. Sat in my garage for 17 years...

  • AHHHH He is beautiful.

  • yes, yes he's a sexy man/god but does anyone care about the sketch itself.....people its funny!

  • Omg he's younnnnnnnnng

  • hes pretty cute in his younger years!

  • lol

  • He's gorgeous in the close-up!

  • lol yea, thats Paul Dinello i think.

  • lol wait were u talking about stephen or the other guy who was in it for like 2 seconds? lol

  • haha stephen

  • oh oops, lol hahahaha i am soooo retarded! lol

  • I kind of think this was filmed on the Second City Stage it looks very similar to that and would probably match up with the time period....

  • yes - it was filmed on the Second City ETC. stage in Chicago in 1990

  • lol, cute.

imagine a drinking game for this:

Take a drink for everytime Stephen says Fred.

  • love that effect too - another example of massive hollywood budgets we had to work with - even for John Cleese demo projects

  • hahah his hair

    i love stephen colbert

  • thanks to the poster. I wrote this and I haven't seen it for many years. The woman in the sketch is Aliza Shalowitz Murrietta and look for a cameo by Paul Dinello as the Fedex Guy.

  • "This is the first time you've ever been to my office" :D Nice button! Are you still writing?

  • yes. I have a show opening at Chicago Shakespeare later this month.

  • NAAAAA na na na na na na and a na na na na na a na na na and a na na na and a nother bit a na na na

(supposed to be one of those 80's beats)

  • Is that Colbert? He looks so different.

  • its called aging.

  • He performed at Chicago's Second City an improv group that launched many comedians including Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch. Used to rival SNL

  • Without SC probably wouldn't be SNL - Lorne Michaels has raided SC for talent for years. Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, etc etc etc

  • Yep, Just like the New York Yankees steal the best players from all over the league so do the new york producers. Both SC and SNL are still good though.

  • bill murray was never a cast member on snl.

  • check ur facts - he replaced Chevy Chase

  • OMG! He wore a suit even back then!

  • wow look at his hair. LOL. so young! love his stuff

  • is Stephen 21 here? LOL... How sweet... He already had quite the looks...

  • Stephen was 25 here =) he was born in '64

  • I didn't really like this but Stephen Colbert is really cool and funny

  • Stephen Coal Bert.

  • Colbert's wrist, now this. It's called a boom mic.

  • it's called a built-in microphone on a 1989 VHS camera

  • What a gem -- I love the raised eyebrows! Thanks for sharing!

  • Oh god. What a stud.

  • Merry Christmas!!

  • wow. 450,000 views in 2 days. stephen well deserves it :)

  • Hey Spammers - we're running a special holiday sting operation courtesy of YouTube/Google Tracking for the next 48 hours - just to catch you, the biggest offenders. Enjoy!

    Comment on Colbert? Cool...

  • I'm pretty sure that's Rachel Dratch with him. She's from Saturday Night Live and was a member of Second City.

  • no thats not her. i see hwere your coming from though. judging on her looks and how old this video is, i dont think its possible.

  • It's Aliza Shalowitz - she was in Chicago's Second City ETC. with Stephen, Paul Dinello, and Amy Sedaris in 1989/1990...

  • ajk

  • It wasn't an impression, it was just him along time ago. Not very funny tho, but whatever.

  • looks at the ear. thats colbert

  • Without a doubt, one of the worst videos ever made!

  • I liked him best on the Daily Show. The guy is just really good.

His best was the Washington Correspondent's dinner though. It was an extremely tough crowd... literally... and he handled it like a true pro. An outstanding talent.

  • oh God,

    1. the act of breaking the door, too fake.

    2. the message quantity typed at the end is less compared to what has been read.

    3. good video though

  • watch our videos

    stephan colbert is funey

  • IAMO!!!!!!!!!!!!11111!!
