God is amazing, giving Him the praise and honor will empower anyone and everyone! Nobody should be ashamed to give Him the glory, yes you have to change your eating and exercising habits, but it is God, who when you are trying your best, gives you the extra strength to endure!!!
Food was his crutch, anything can be a crutch even so called "Christian things" like "Church" or seemingly harmless things like "food" For some people, they are using that to fill up the space that was reserved for God and God alone and THAT'S what he's talking about. He started taking care of his temple (body) with hard work, determination, and God.
With God all things are possible, but as Nick would surely say... the great mystery is that without God we can do nothing (i.e. air to breath) and yet without sweat, determination, commitment and a dogged sense to win... neither can we do anything.
Actually scripture says "all good things come from God" and without him we can do nothing. It is He who grants air to breath, which can be taken in a moment from any of us. Further, "for it is God who is at work within us both to do and to live for his good pleasure."
I am encouraged by Nick's life and although he acknowledges God's grace for his empowerment, the great mistory of life is that it takes both our dependancy on God as well as a incredibly hard work, determination and commitment.
God did not help him lose wait, hard work and a change of life style did. He achieved his goals he should take the credit rather than passing it on to god. I too need to lose 150 pounds as I'm currently 156 kg. The thought of gastric sergury sickens me so I started a plan last week. I have diet has improved hugely and I have started to attend a gym, I have a long road ahead.

It's a combination of both.
Discipline is the point.
