  • The Dalek sounds Welsh when he says "curry!"

  • in 2011 there will be no video named after the famous sketch "Pakistani Daleks"...

  • told you i was ill...

  • "I exterminated him, put him in the curry" Spike's humour was pure genius.

  • @jnorman737 that's why the Goon show was so good

  • Tophole

  • The Dalek is drunk or what????

  • @Franciszek64 yes.......the Dalek IS indeed supposed to be drunk. Imagine a dalek in a pub having a few pints, staggering home - such wonderful, unconventional thinking in itself that made Spike the twisted genius he was.

  • Total genius

  • lol doctor who

  • funny i didnt think it was pakistani but one those english people that wear the hankies on the head.

  • One of his best sketches, never shown for decades.

  • What is that on his head? Is it supposed to be a turban?

  • Haven't seen this for years - great stuff.

  • I downloaded an iPhone / ipod touch app called "Pocket Goon" (59 pence!) It's totally great at showing off what the Goons were all about. It has video and audio clips from early 1956 and has two versions of the Ying Tong song on with video!! Theres a young Spike Milligan and Peter Sellers and others; but unfortunately no Harry Seacombe. Still, it's a "must have" for Goon fans. Absolutely brilliant.

  • Calling Spike a Racist is akin to calling the pope jewish, it's not true, we know it's not true and one saying it obviously doesn't understand how the world works....Unless of course we are saying that any use of an acent is a racially motivated move, in which case who wants to tell everyone they are Racist...

  • fookin hilarious

  • The pc brigade wouldn`t allow this now, hilarious!

  • put him in a curry, put it in a curryand put her in the curry too.!!! Fantastic.

Such comments cause uproar thesedays by shhhh you know who? and no its not Scchwepps.

  • I like the baby dalek never seen 1 before excellent

  • lucky

  • Hilarious. Never seen this before.

  • I want a Darlick robot suit thing so i can entertain people lol

    5dmc1

  • did not lol

  • put him in the curry

    lol

  • WELL I LOVED IT dont listen 2 the pl who say this is rubbish! :-D check out my channel :-D ikm new 2 youtube

  • God the laughing is annoying =/

  • get used to it then

  • Merely an opinion dude. No need to get shitty.

  • Ahahaha, wow. xD

  • lmfao

  • LOL :D

  • There's a bit missing off the end. After she says 'Now you know whats wrong with the country', things get blown up and Spike says 'Put it all in the curry' and she says 'Now you know what's wrong with the curry, too!' There's a clearer recording of this on Youtube somewhere with this bit on.

There's also one with the first frame, which says 'A Typical Mixed Marriage in Britain today'.

  • I prefer this Upload though cos the Laughing is much louder in this, which in my opinion adds to the Hilarity of the Sketch.

  • This is an all time classic !!

  • bet you didnt know that Terry Nation didn't want the Daleks to be used in this programme but was obliged to as Spike had once lent him some money.

  • funny

  • Spike was a very ill man, he had Bipolar, which is a serious mental illnees (Manic Depression) He had at least 10 BIG breakdowns and God knows how many others, shell shock, can last a lifetime(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder nowadays) alot of the time, he was not responsible for his actions, and why he was sectioned and put into hospital regularly. I'm sure that if he was a violent w**ker, his family would not have paid tribute to him He died peacefully,(not violently)at 83 of liver disease.

  • the liver disease sounds about right people with depression either drink alot or take drugs.....i have it and i drink every day

  • @purplescribble - Its well documented that what happened to him in World War 2 was another huge reason for his Manic Depression

  • Bollocks, why do people have to lie?

  • The one thing which every wife and child he ever had agree on is that he was never abusive in any way whatsoever. Fuck off.

  • What, because I get annoyed that one of my idols is now being accused of being abusive?

  • Besides, I can only laugh when someone who has the weapons used in terminator 2 as a favourite video tells me to get a life. Get a grip, darling.

  • dude that was fuckin funny proper class

  • Still very funny ! years later

  • Sound quality hurts my human ears.

  • @judasatan Unscrew them and put on your Silurian ears.

  • @judasatan My Dalek ears are fine with it. lrn2evolve, inferior species.

  • Very funny cool guy

  • lmfao

  • It's funny; put it in the curry.

    x

  • I think there is lesson to learn from this dispute that happened some time ago. I should have learnt that the internet is not the real world we all live and those who took the piss must learn that there is more than one way of interpreting things before jumping to conclusions

  • god, genius, our comedy wouldnt exist without him.

  • definitely the funniest cleverest sketch in the world from the best of the best comedy writers!!!!

  • Put thehatbloke and fnslr308 in the Curry.

  • Put Granny in the curry.

  • Well fnslr308, arguing whether something is 'funny' or not is kinda pointless. If anything is totally subjective and personal, it's what makes you laugh.

And yes, I did pay to see him in theatre. Loved it. Still have the ticket. I like this vid. I loved First Irishman On The Moon. So, yes I'm a fan. It's certainly dated, but it still tickles my giblets. I like the anarchy.

For me, without Spike/The Goons and The Marx Brothers the world's a straighter, less funny place.

  • Well thehatbloke, let's stop arguing. But you started it (Doh!-sorry).

With deep irony no doubt Spike would've enjoyed this pointless spat of ours.

His show at the Grand Theatre in Leeds circa 1972 began with curtain going up and spike and mates disguised as stage hands, brown coats etc doing painting and joinery.

There was an appalled silence as we all thought there'd been a back-stage cock up and not ready etc. Got us.

    Kind regards.

  • The best part is Spike blatantly trying not to crack up at the end

    'Did you do your homework?'

    'YES..I..DESTROYED..IT'

    Classic.

  • RIP Spike. Father of Python and all surreal comedy. His war diaries are hilarious and poignant, a must read.

  • Well, you're entitled to your opinion but I'd hardly describe serving in WW2 as 'comfy'. If you want to know just how uncomfy it was, read his description of shellshock after he was hit by shrapnel and told to go back out to continue laying communication cables between trenches.

The clinical depression he suffered after the war - for which he was on copious amounts of lithium - was a direct result of his war experiences.

Personally I think that Spike was just a funny, unique man.

  • thehatbloke

Yup, I am. If you'd read and understood the comment you'd realise that I was talking about the humour.

I have never "described serving in WW2 as 'comfy'" your words mate not mine.

And don't go all angst/dewey-eyed-WW2-was-tough on me please.

My father was invited to D-Day/Caen/thence through the Bocage only to be shot (not fatally) approaching Vire. So I've grown up with it and could do without a BULL***T lecture on something you read in a book.

    cheers mate

  • Well, I'd argue that his comedy was anything but comfy. You don't have to be a psychologist to figure out that the anarchy of Milligan's comedy (and The Goon Show's) grew out of his war experiences.

In fact, I can't think of anyone else whose humour is less comfortable. In its time it was revolutionary (the BBC never knew quite what to make of him); there was little or no connective tissues between sketches. Some hit; many missed.

Spike's comedy was many things, but it wasn't 'comfy'.

  • Thehatbloke.

Ok, lame tedious, manic, dated, unfunny.

Did you ever pay to go and see him? I did.

I still think that you are not objectively looking at the video above and his humour.

Instead you are going "Schmaltzy-he had a rough time in WW11 and so it must be good".

    Live in the now man.

I am not arguing with you, mate. I love you, and anyway I might be wrong.

but you do keep banging on about what a rough time spke had in WW11. He made millions, most didn't and rarely spoke of it

  • WW11? Fuck me, I must have slept through 9 world wars...

  • That Benny Hill chap was good too wasn' he?

  • Brilliant!

  • 'Exterminating is hard work' , to which she replys 'how about a cup of tea'. lol. And baby Dalek distroyed his home work. so cool

  • PUT THEM IN THE CURRY!!!! LOL

  • Dunno why it's funny - just is - go Spike

  • shut up eccles!

    r.i.p terrence milligan

  • with apologies to all those who thought I had joined the PC brigade I do find Spike Milligan hilarious I was merely pointing out that there are some dimwits who'd find this kind of thing racist, not me. Long live Spike! (does anyone know what happened to the "leap into a dustbin and dance" sketch?

  • I did get that from your first comment, for what it's worth. Can't understand the negatives against you, really. It can only be PC paranoia.

As for them as thinks Spike was a 'racist', well, put them in the curry.

  • for £1 extra I'd put all in the PC Brigade in the curry. I think the day I wrote that unfortunate comment for me it must have been "one of those days"

  • just superb - shame you couldn't make it now. Show me better comedy improv in my lifetime and I'll be surprised.

  • There is no way you would get away with a sketch like this now as it would be considered racist!

  • drob1980 - Racist? against who? The Daleks? This is pure Milligan - and brilliantly funny.

  • Absolutely barking mad! I nearly had a stroke watching this, I was laughing so hard. Thanks Spike.

  • Brilliant comedy. Spike was always a hairs breadth away from a full mental breakdown and it shows in his sketches. Anarchy, pure class. God bless you Spike...

  • he says: halo pali

  • total anarchy!----poor resolution, maybe, but the sheer comedy still shines through.

  • Funny!

    No Daddler without Daleks...

  • Dear Jesus, ow!

The sound on this is awful, I can't listen to it as it's painful, and by painful I don't mean ho! ho! Westlife/Celine Dion painful, I mean ow fuck! finger in mousetrap/ear infection painful. Perhaps it could my speaker, or it could be my ears, or even some disease I've recently caught but if it is, it is very curious as this has never happened to me before.

  • No, you're quite right, it's terrible audio.

  • That is exactly how the Daleks spoke!! They were on the 1960's British T.V. series Doctor Who. There is nothing wrong with your audio, or ears.....

  • and thats how they spoke on the more recent doctor who "THIS-IS-NOT-WAR-THIS-IS-PEST-CONTROL"

  • Offering a nice cup of tea to a dalek - nice!

If you love Spike, get the whole War Diaries on talking book - a great listen!

Also Peacework and Goodbye Soldier are heartbreaking!

    All read by Spike.

  • Priceless !

  • Love this sketch.Hilarious.

Spike, the genius.Along with Peter Cook and The Pythons.

  • Pissin myself laughing and tears rolling down my cheeks after that. Been so long since I've seen any Spike Milligan. Read his book, "Hitler, my part in his downfall" I think it was called, way back when I was in primary school and that was absolutely bloody hilarious, too.

Thx for sticking this up on youtube.

  • I have all six of his war memories, it was brilliant,.

  • he only has six memories about the war? i'd have thought he'd had more than that...

  • OMG, that was stupid of me, I meant memoires, he wrote six full length novels on his life first in the artillery, and later on through the mental rehab camps in Italy.

  • :) I laughed my head off the first time I saw this many moons ago and I still laugh after seeing it today! Thanks for this great posting!! :)))

  • WTF! Put him in the curry! LOL

  • WHAT THE HELL!?

    *laughs insanely*

    What a brilliant sketch.

  • So chaotic. I couldn't imagine seeing this way back when (I'm 20). Great stuff, Spike's work is legendary!

  • This isn't racism, it's the opposite. Milligan is taking the piss out of racists. The clue is is when the wife says "now you know what's wrong with the country!". It's a total piss take of racism against Pakistanti people.

  • how funnys the dog

  • The Daleks in Dr Who were heartless destroyers of all other life forms so a Dalek who crashes into a normal 1970's lounge and says "Hello darling I'm home" is...well...Milligan! The actress is - Stella Tanner

  • See, in the 1970s, pakistanis were perceived as aliens - it's clever, man!

Although being from Yorkshire, i take offence at the flat cap and stew reference from morgandude2.

No i don't, i would laugh my head off just the same!

When will this PC crap end? - and no I am not a fan of Bernard Manning, his humour was not intelligent or interesting and THIS IS.

Long live Spike (I know he's dead) and all he stands for!

  • how long ago was this filmed, its really funny, was this like in the late 70s?

  • put him in the curry.

  • not maureen lipman but v,similar

  • This is the funniest thing in the world.

  • That was so funny. Fantastic!!

  • Racist? BOLLOCKS!

I would laugh just as much if the Dalek was wearing a flat cap and wanted to put the exterminated things in the stew.

    Fucking stupid PC influenced twats!

We have to be able to laugh at ourselves...we are all funny from a subjective point of view..ALL of us!!!

The funniest thing is the piss take of the Dalek..and I LOVE Daleks....but do I get all defensive about it being 'Dalekist'?

    Oh pu-lease!

  • Here here! I couldn't agree more!!

  • This may touch on racism a bit but I feel is quite inocently/nievley done. I'd say burnard manning is more offencive than this. I think its mainly white over zelous liberales who get ofended for other races. Don't get me wrong political correctness is a good thing but can be taken to far.

  • lol love the dog. Cant wait for the 4th series to start gona be great i hope

  • this makes me absolutely piss myself with laughter every single time. i wish i'd been alive back then.

  • I was alive, and it still makes me cry with laughter.

Spike was, as so many geniuses (genii?) on another planet.

How I wish I could have met him!

We need people like Spike as a reality check!

  • Spike, oh spike i miss you.

  • Combines my two favorites. Spike Milligan and Doctor Who!

  • Heh heh! Exploding doggie~

    XD

  • helo drling i am houme i no dher

  • One of the things I find most funny is that Spike was probably trying to drive the dalek to the best of his ability.

  • 'He's not very well'

    'Why?'

    'I exterminated him!'

    LOL

One of the best sketches ever!

  • Remember the Daleks from Dr Who??

  • PUT HIM IN THE CU-RRY POT!

  • funny stuff, no harm nor pun intended....Spike wasn't malevolent, the fun is being poked at the Daleks, not at humans...

    Saami

  • Who cares if this is offensive to Pakistanis?!? Those jokers have bigger concerns right about now!

  • Its NOT offensive, thats the whole argument here!

  • funney daleks are so coll reece smith

  • To show you how ludicrous political correctness has gotten, imagine the Dalek had a Welsh accent, you wouldn't find a single complaint abou the sketch.

Political correctness has (literally) gone beyond a joke.

  • SORRY I wrote NOT RACIST but had to edit hard down to 500 characters and cut out the wrong bit! NOT racist, just Funny!

  • Spike wrote on attitudes of the day. It was a time of influx of Asians & Caribbeans to the UK (remember Enoch Powell) & anxiety about integration etc. The sketch actually starts "A typical mixed marriage in Britain today", & what a mix! Spike seemd fond of the Indian subcontinent. I've no time for racism. This is racist. How the actress got thru the sketch with all the unscripted destruction I'll never know. Was it Pat Coombs?

  • i belive the actress was maureen lipman

  • How did you manage to get hold of David Tennents next encounter with the Daleks

  • From an era when you never worried about PC.

    Hence it was outstandingly funny.

  • Political correctness has created nothing of any substance or meaning, it is a by product of academic theorists.

  • "PUT HIM IN THE CURRY" LOL

  • you people need to learn to laugh and not be sooo sensitive if we as a race cannot find amusement in others, perhaps that quirk quickly turns to suspicion and ultimatly by not being able to approach differences light heartedly they are approached more seriously and with aggression sooooo lets laugh and chill out

  • put him in the curry tonight!

  • who cares ilove it

  • PUT HIM IN THE CURRY!

  • LOL everything he kills he says "put him in the curry"

    ps ITS NOT RACIST!!!

  • thanks to all the pc comedy is now dead ,remember to wear your high vis jacket and smoke in the street in the rain outside your local

  • man im a Da-lek my-self and-i do-not think this-is fun-ney why do peo-ple make jokes ab-out us? i will ex-ter-mi-nate ex-ter-mi-nate my-mate-nate ex-ter-mi-nate

hay don't write comments with my youtube name!

    so-rry my-lord

  • Erm... can anyone categorically state what is racist about this ? I cannot see anything... at all. ;o/

  • Y do ppl say this sketch is racist? comedy was different bk then and funnier its the p.c.brigade who ruin comedy and u will b saying tht its against health n safety cus the dalek isnt wearing a high vis jacket. lighten up r.i.p. spike

  • admittedly political correctness made racism unnaceptable. Therefore surely political correctness is not necessarily all bad

  • Get a grip!!! There's nothing racist about this. Would you call it racist if an english dalek wanted to 'put it in the gravy'? My wife is indian and loves this sketch.

  • Some commenters need to get a life. If you want to see offensive, watch the "Gay Daleks" viseos!

  • This vidio is soooooooooo funny that my gran is wetting her self with laughter (how sad is that!!!)

    Very good

  • What exactly is racist about this? Spike Milligan was born in India, so speaking in an Indian accent would have been normal to him in his younger years. Real racism is a serious topic covering serious issues. This was a comedy sketch show for heavens sake, nothing in it was malicious. You need to realise whats real and whats not.

  • Oh please. Do you actually understand what racism is?

  • And surely political correctness will make it wrong to write comedy about idiots next. Surely you understand political correctness since you are willing to support it. Therefore in the political climate of it's day this was deemed acceptable, just as it is acceptable today to make a comedy about a single parent. By supporting political correctness you are enforcing the right for ALL to be equal there for everyone NO MATTER what they are, WHO they are and WHAT they believe.

  • Fuck off you Scottish cunt, is that racist enough for you?

  • Its funny you should say this as i had this video listed on here several times as 'Spike Milligans Pakinstani Daleks', and YouTube kept removing it. I changed the title to its current name, and strangely enough it hasnt been remnoved for ages now!

  • I can't understand a lot of the dialogue...

  • A man who really deserved the all too often used title comedy genius.

  • Milligan was exploring some of the racial issues in the UK at the time, but it was pure, ridiculous comedy. Milligan had earlier done a series called 'Curry and Chips' about a Pakistani coming to England and working with some various English types in some kind of workplace.

In a variant of this classic Q sketch, the wife adds after "Now you know what's wrong with the country", the line "Now you know what's wrong with the curry."

  • The Young Ones meet Dr Who meet Coronation Street. Pure bloody havoc.

  • very funny! i exstermenated them!

  • if you google 'q6 milligan', you will find the Qseries tribute site with lots of scripts and pics and vids from Spike Milligan's finest TV hour. And a DVD petition to sign!

  • Laff if it could speak Urdu!

  • bloody good video clip from Spike Milligan's TV show. i especially liked it when the dalek kept on bumping into the kitchen funitutre either it was very clumsy or it has somehow found a way to intravenously take in many pints of beer. (i do not think it has been to work at all. i think it has somehow got a human to unlatch the top of its head inserted a needle and tube and has spent the entire working day very slowly getting pissed up. it sure beats bloody work every time.)

  • cant understand nary a word of the english, are you sure this isn't a Taliban post?

  • So funny I could'nt resit watching it 25 times

  • the original daleks are way funnier

  • OMG ROFLMAO!

  • Hillarious...good old Spike!

  • "Put him in de curry!" LOL!

  • Goodness gracious meeeeeeee!

  • i love daleks.
