  • I wish I had the money to upgrade my 89 Maxima. I would strip everything from interrior to exterrior and upgrade it, along with the motor to make it more powerful. It would look really badass. My car is a piece of shit right now LOL.

  • this car sound bad ass.

  • I had a 89 SE 5 speed...not turbo though....but it still would get up and go

    I miss it :(

  • How much WHP do these make stock?

  • @strafe501 Gxe VG motor is rated at 160hp and the 92 - 94 se Ve motor is rated at 190 hp

  • Nice vid I got a 1992 se 5 speed. It's kitted out lowered with some sweet rims and a corvette spoiler. I also have shaved door handles and remote start. It's not the fastest in the world, but it looks sweet. Will post some vids soon.

  • So that's why you were making up ground on that STI so fast. :)

  • Really nice. Keep up the good work!

  • gottah love the VG. Back in the 80's and early 90's Nissan used a version of this motor (highly tuned) in their racing cars; it developed over 800 horsepower and was one of the most reliable motors they've made. I've owned the VE30de and VG30 motors in many maxima's and let me tell you 30 extra hp isn't worth all the trouble from the DOHC. 4DSC FOR LIFE.

  • o my gosh, i had a 1989 maxima not turbo but the cars only has a 180 or so horse power stock, nice job man. That intercoler alone would make people pull over for you! I like it alot!

  • hi anybody want to buy my nissan maxima 1989 3000 Gt is available kept in the garage ,very smouth car ,let you know i live in orlando florida.

  • nice car. What all have you done to the engine??

  • i got a 1990 nissan maxima and i was wondering what i could do to make it turbo charged...

  • Yah I'm in the same boat, I have a 91 maxima gxe. I haven't seen a kit for the 3rd gen. JimWolff technologies have been working with Nissan sports cars for over 30 years. I would check them out. They have ECU's, cams, and turbos for the 3rd gen maxima, but it's not a kit though.... More than likely it would have to be done from scratch or a custom made kit. Unless there's a company that does custom turbo kits for the 3rd gen. For me I'm focusing on upgrading the intake/exhaust system.

  • so they dont make the turbo kits for the 90 maxima? thats lame... but is the jimwolff a website i could check out? i am new to the tuner scene... this isnt my first car but it is my first tuner.... so a little help

  • what would i do for the exhaust to make it louder AND get more horse power... the only thing i can find is the pacesetter... and the reviews dont sound to good for them..

  • to make a A31 maxima turbocharge is pretty easy compare to other kit or swaps, first thing gotta get the exhaust turbo manifolds from a Z31 1984-89 300ZX turbo and the turbo itself but with the exhaust is good enough, then get the turbo of your choice well a T3/T4 if you get z31 84-86 T25,T28,Gt28 if you get the Z31 87-88, set of injectors z31 turbo, afc, boost controller, blow off valve, and you are done. that set up will get you 270hp, want more , just upgrade+ , VG30E stock can Take 400HP max

  • ok is i do the Z31 i just need injectors right and left manifold for the turbo. a turbo blow off valves boost controller inter cooler and piping right????

  • It's actually not as EZ as said. People who have done N/A to turbo actually say it's expensive and hard work. You are also missing the oil pump, and the coolant return lines. All adds up BTW.

  • oil pump, the stock oil pump gives good psi rating to run a turbo, if you have a t3/t4 e/b, you can get a kit for the nissan s13 turbo for the oil lines and return, is pretty easy if you running water cooled lines on your T3 , T4, T3/t4 you take the line from the throttle body run down to the turbo, if you gonna go with over 300hp yeah you will have to upgrade a lot of stuff, FWD over 350hp is pretty much useless and most likely will tend to breakdown a lot.

  • I did a NA2T on a Z31 for $500 with all of the parts (not including an exhaust). Easiest way for the maxima IMO would be getting a z31 wiring harness and ECU and rewiring it, or you could do nistune and tune it :P

  • @Donpire You don't need to change the oil pump, NA VG oil pump is sufficient unless you plan on revving over 7,000rpm. Also, you don't need coolant lines for the turbo if you don't run a watercooled turbo.

  • Well from the dyno sheet it's definitely a VG30E engine. Because VG30E engines produced more torque than horse power.

  • that is sick

  • dude! im planning on turboing my 3rd gen here pretty soon. how much boost are you running? and what kind of turbo do you have on there?

  • from the front grill....thats probably a 92-94

but only from that...you can't tell if its the SE.

from the way the engine bay looks from that angle...it looks like a VG30 SOHC.

    more than likely a GXE.

( looks like I see plug wires )..on the VE30DE you dont see plug wires.

  • its an 89 SE buddy!! i just have the 92-94 grill

  • yeah...I dunno why I even said that....the year of the car is in the title of your vid.. ( LOL )

LOVELY Max mayne! ( thumbs up )

    :)

  • @JoeBoost can you tell me where i can look up for parts for my maxima 87, i know yours or that 1 is 89 but if you can give me a link to look up performance parts. as it stands i have this engine 3.0 L VG30E V6 engine. i am going to go to school to become a mechanic soon and was thinking about selling the lil car but my friend is a mechanic he mention i can put an sr20 on the maxima is this true or is he full of it???

  • @JoeBoost what kind of engine is that??? i have a car like yours want to swap my engine but don't know to what, i know the 300zx engine fits is the same parts but 300zx has turbo. what did you manage to put into yours???

  • What trans are you running? stock 5spd, or is it built? love the car. I have a 85 300zx turbo, just got a 1990 maxima(its a auto), it was only 250 bucks and runs so. I like the second gen. better, has more room in the engine bay. but your car looks awesome and im sure it moves!

  • Hey how I seen your car on cardomain just wondering a little about your engine. I have 91 and try to do something different like you if you could help me out let me know...

  • I remember seeing this car at stillen a few times. I talked to you once. If I remember right that is a JDM motor and turbo setup. I know its not a USDM motor.

  • beautiful numbers man...i love the older maxima cause they are lighter then the fatter 5th gens and 6th gens

  • i dunno the stock sohc is 160hp. with bolt ons. you can get it to about 200. with proper tuning without a turbo I've seen them around 220. mine with bolt on non-tune is at 188 to the wheels. maxima dot org !!

    -heresmymind

  • That must be a big turbo lol

  • nice i want a turbo on mine is ur maxima SOHC or the DOHC mine is the DOHC

  • They didn't make the DOHC VE30DE until 1992.

  • mine is a 1992

  • DOHC in the SE only for that year on to '94.

    Check out vgpowered(dot)com

  • thats correct.

BUT only for the SE..the GXE and base had VG30E SOHCs

its only the SEs that came with the VE30DE from 92-94 ( only 2 years it was made ) then the 4th gens had the VQ30DEs

NOW...if that car has painted sold mirrors..its a GXE. ONLY SEs came with black side mirrors. Theres little things that tear the SE apart from the GXE.
