@sladerfoster i like all of the x39 rounds. 7.62x39 is good penetration, less accurate. 5.45 is slightly less penetration but more accurate, and 9x39 is god caliber of close range. amazing penetration and good accuracy

@sladerfoster The 5.56x45 is easily a more accurate and powerful round than the 5.45x39 owing to it's larger load and round. Also comparing the rifles, even the best made Russian AK is inherently inaccurate because they are designed for concentrated volume of fire in a cheap, durable package. Weapons made with 5.56 in mind are commonly focused on modularity, accuracy, and the ability to fit specialized roles. By very rule of fact the 5.56 is a better round because the 5.54 was made to be cheap.

@sladerfoster Also if you've ever fired an M-16 you'll know that it has even less recoil than the AK even though the AK74 has a smaller round. Even modern AK's have very little in the way of recoil reduction. In semi-auto with my AR-15 I can place 30 rounds in a 10 inch square at 50 yards in quick succession. Let's see you do it with an AK. Even better yet, let's do the same thing with both rifles but with a moving target. Suddenly the the AK seems a little archaic.

In Russia it is called AK, AKM next, then the AK-74 or later. In Russia, in any military training manual is not the name of AK-47s, so it is called just to the west is not the correct name and correct name is AK. Name of the AK-47 carried a preproduction samples and small series of prototypes № 2 (1500 units) produced in the spring of 1948 for military trials.

In the USSR, adopted for use under the name "The 7.62-mm Kalashnikov assault rifle mod. 1949 ", shortened AK.

AK, M16, L85 or whatever are very pale and dummy next to it. However it's too expensive (5x AK74M !), and over complex for all russian army, but it is spread in elite units, it is used extensively scince 15 years.

@1996Mircea No it won't. The AK-47 and others are getting very old. My gun is the Bushmaster ACR. It fire the same ammo as the ak and m16. Its the most accurate assualt rifle to date. Fully automatic and semi. And can survive harsh conditions.

@Curevicc Hmmm...the M16 I used in Viet Nam was .223 caliber. The AK 47 is 7.62x39. The M16 is a fine weapon but as anyone who's used them in say...Dessert Storm can tell you,a few grains of sand in the wrong places and it will most likely jam. You can bury an AK in a pile of sand,dig it up,shake it off,and start firing.

@nerblebun It goes a lot further than that. First off the M-16 is a lot more durable and rugged than it is given credit for. Second, forces using the M-16 are usually trained marksmen taught how to care for that weapon. Forces using the 7.62x39(old style) AK are using it because it is cheap and doesn't require practical skill with firearms. Without any training on how to fire and handle a weapon at all, the advantages of the AK are moot. Third, the M-16s used in Vietnam were all A1 revision.

The newer A2 and A3 revision rifles are much more durable and resistant to dust and fouling. With proper care an M-16 is just as durable and reliable as an AK pattern rifle. Also, AK rifles are by default less accurate due to their design. As far as overall combat effectiveness goes, what's the point if you can hit anything? I know just as many who have used the M-16 including in Vietnam and they'll tell you it's a better weapon than the AK any day. The only difference being proper care.

im a reservist and ive had the luck of shooting almost all of the riflesmade since the 1950's people get caught up in bs between the m16 and ak there both superb weapon systems but ive also gotten to try the ak 94 which is similar to the 104 and all are like the 47 in most manners but the new ak series weapons are superb theve taken the reliability of the ak and taken some of the control switching simplicity and alloys that the m16 has been using truley a fine weapon the best of all worlds.
