Why is it that the Eldar are painted in a negative light just because they wanted to leave Dullinor and make new kingdoms and such for themselves (aside from getting revenge on Morgoth)? Don't they have the right to leave if they want? It's like the Valar are like jilted women when the bf's run out on them.
Okay.... that was interesting. I was suprised when I saw clips from Narnia/Pirates of the Carribean but, honestly, I thought it was kinda funny; the clips actually fit pretty well. Nice trailer. :D

@EarwenAltariel: Great video. Very nice. :) I like how you called Ulmo forth with some nice cuts; and Helcaraxë with images from PotC.. good call, there! Keep making videos, please.
You can't really make a movie about the Silmarillion. All it is just more information about the characters and background info on the story and the world the Lord of the Rings is set in.
@JMMBenson Why not? There's plenty of history that takes place in the second and third ages before The Lord of the Rings. The movie trilogy's prelude for the forging of the rings was a rather rough summary, but it did what it needed to do to get the movie rolling. The same could be easily done for a Silmarillion movie. Summarize a few of the more important events and fast forward to the end of the age where the climax takes place.
If they actually did make it into a movie, it'd be absolute shit. There's far too much detail in the the book for them to cram into a 3 hour movie. There would be so much left out.
@tzepesh20 silmarilion the move- can be done. I hope it will not be that dwarf peter jackson to do it- or it will be all battles and orcs with gay elvens in background.
She, judging by the username, though I would generally agree. Then again, very few unimaginative people would ever upload a fanmade trailer for the Sil, now, would they?
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuude....I just watcched this again, and it's actually Orlando Bllom as Earendil. I guess I must have been laughing so hard once I realized it was from Pirates' that I didn't even register which guy it was.
The only way they should ever turn books into movies is if they use the book as a script. Otherwise, they mess it up. In the LOTR movies, where was Tom Bombadil? The Raising of the Shire? Also, NOWHERE in the book does it say a legion of elves lead by Haldir marched into Helm's Deep to kick ass. As nice a thought as it was, it was merely a non-canon add on.

@thorin1917 you can't turn the "Silmarillion" into a movie. It's just impossible. There is too much material, too much that is too important to be left out. maybe techniques are good enough to do it, but I think, there'd be no producers and movie companies who'd take the risk of paying for this extraordinary production. But it would be great, to see such a movie ;-)
@sarah26091992 Who told that expects silarillion at only one movie? :) Personally,i would separate it at three or four parts.The first part would include the first age which is small,ai-nulidali and valaqueda,the second part would include the second age and the third part the third age until the war of the ring.I agree that it includes a high risk to turn it into a movie but directors like peter jackson with the experience of lotr and "the hobbit" could make it...
@EarwenAltariel ahahaa perhaps he thought you are all by yourself making the whole Silmarillion movie, I think it´s a quite brillant compilation of images, perhaps I would suggest you another sailor cause Orlando already appears as Legolas, I´d love to see Russell Crowe as Earandil, what do you think?

Very good trailer! Definately the best Silmarillion trailer I've seen. I would love to watch movies about it, but I'm sure people who have not read the book would be extremely confused about it. I also think that a tv series would be best, like Band of Brothers
guyz i would really like a movie for silmarillon,that should be really worthy......it can be e movie like that because tha ephes and the cinematics have been improved these yeas
Dude! When Peter Jackson is done with The Hobbit, he totally needs to produce a tv series of the Silmarillion. The show wouldn't even have to be called the Silmarillion. It could be called Middle-earth for all I care. It would have to be something like 20 episodes a season and about 5 to 6 seasons. But it would be so awsome if he really made this into a series! 8D
What on earth did this video have to do with the Silmarillion? And where did Jack Sparrow come into Tolkien's Tales? Shots from the Lord of the Rings and the same author do not make a trailer. Very disappointing.
But seriously, I'm not sure that if they begin to film the Silmarillion one day they'd make it epic and beautiful enough. And probably they'd make it a trilogy too.
i don't understand! is it lord of the rings or the silmarillion? is silmarillion a new movie? when can we watch it? are these the same actors from lord of the rings? i mean its like watching lord of the rings! wats the silmarillion????
@ijrefik9 The Silmarillion (to make short) is like a giant prequel for LOTR and the Hobbit. Galadriel was around then, but she was young. There is no knowledge of making the Silmarillion into a movie yet. This is a fan made trailer- and a well done one I might add.
@ijrefik9 lol the silmarillion takes place ages before the lord of the rings. and is about the quest for the silmarills which where basicaly super rare gems. the story starts with the creation of arda (the world) and hardly any of it takes place in the normal Middle Earth from the lord of the rings. and it focuses much more on the elves then any other race. its not a movie and could never be a movie its just a big saga.
My best hope for ever seeing the Silmarillion on a screen is as a many-episode anime. You are just not going to get all that material - being even 10% faithful to the book - on a movie screen in one or multiple movies. The basic problem is that it takes a certain dedication and stamina to read all the Silmarillion - I had to make a name & lineage chart just to keep track of who is who. Be faithful to the books, and 99% of the public will find it too long and boring.
I'm gonna be honest with all of you; I would like to see the making of the Silmarillion (one movie, many movies, TV series, whatever fits best), but with one condition: That it would not be a Hollywood production. They have butchered too many stories by adapting them into movies.
To say that it's well done is reductive. My absolute compliments!
About how they could make this into a film:
1) Either a very well done TV series (if HBO pulls off A Song of Ice and Fire, why not?)
2) Or a selective movie. Say, the make only the Quenta Silmarillion, and choose to follow it from the point of view of one of the main characters who's in it from start to end, like Maedhros or Galadriel.
3) They make movies out of single stories, like Beren&Luthien, Tùrin, or the Silmaril quest.
The Silmarillion is too much of a story to make into a movie. Most of its content is the excruciating detail given to major elements. A movie would not be able to capture that and keep a good pace. The pace and tone given to the books are perfect for a story of that scale, but making a movie would require changing that.
Also, one of Tolkien's pervading themes is the passing away of beautiful things over time. For a true fan, making a movie out of this would seem almost heretical.
Never in a million million years would happen, it isn't Hollywood material... just not - and look at the damage done the trilogy... cutting out whole chapters, neglecting the scouring of the shire! People look how we longed for a LOTR movie - it wasn't nearly good enough.
see thank you!!!!! Did you notice that this person got scenes from the three movies and tried acting like it was the silmarillon. the only characters that we would really see and recognize in the trailer are the hawks, ents, and sauron. thats it... THIS PERSON IS SO FUCKING STUPID
Hey, how about Ben Barnes to play Feanor? :P I'm not sure about his acting but his appearance is just what I would expect from Feanor - beautiful and dark
@EarwenAltariel i agree! while he does a great Prince Caspian, could he pull off an angry elf prince (then king) who takes on the dark lord, leading his people to their downfall? good choice though
Silmarillion movie...hmm, maybe more like a very high budget, high quality tv series instead? Which each season perhaps being a different major part/era? That would be my vote.
Of course, I'd love to see it on the big screen don't get me wrong, I just don't see how they could ever cover THAT much in films, you know? The episodic format just seems more appropriate to the amount of story going on--especially since you'd have to keep so many of the same actors around so long.
I agree with you..If Simarillion ever was adapted in any way....it would need to be a tv series. Making a movie or a series of movies is just too much. That would be like trying to make a movie on the entire Bible. I could see them making a movie on Turin Turumbar or Earendil however. That would be sweet. A TV series would work on those stories as well.
@Tathrin111 I totally agree with you! If they could actually drag LOST on for 9 or how ever many season long and get their major actors to stay on board, then they could totally make this into a tv series!
Well, I think it would be a good idea to shoot just parts of the Silmarillion, and not the hole book - Maybe the life of Feanor, the story of Beren & Luthien or the tale of the children of Hurin.
I wasn't expecting something so inspired because you were mostly using LotR clips (I thought it would be difficult getting into the Sil-mindset), but you're a good editor and it took me away! As for the question you posed in your video description, I'd split Sil into six movies: one covering Feanor/Exile from Valinor, Beren and Luthien, Turin, Gondolin, Elwing's escape with the silmaril into Sirion/Earandil's voyage, and Akallabeth bringing up the rear. There's plenty other possibilities too! (:
IMHO, the only actress I could think of that could play Luthien (from a purely physical perspective) would be a younger Courteney Cox. She's extremely pretty yet not "hot", which is how I imagine Luthien Tinuviel, and she has the black hair, fair skin and blue eyes to match.
Luthien would be EXTRODINARILY hard to cast. Perhaps Arwen Evenstar was beautiful, but Luthien was far more beautiful then she.
The one I want to see the most is Narn I Hin Hurin! I loved that book, and all the characters in it. Morwen and Nienor Niniel were my favourites though, and it was soooooo sad.
Maeglin was such a JERK! I am also really fond of the Fall of Gondolin, but that story is so sad as well.
I think the Simarillion would be hard to make into a movie because it was so EPIC, if you understand what I mean. Lord of the Rings was that too, but the First Age was so much more dramatic and epic and furious.
From the Girdle of Melian, to Beren and Luthien, to Narn I Hin Hurin, to The Battle of Unumbered Tears, so hard to portray in a movie.
Children of Hurin would also be my top pick for a story based on the Silmarillion, in spite of its dour nature. Turin is my favourite character from Tolkien (I could write a whole essay about the complexity of his character) but I adore Nienor, Morwen, and Beleg especially as well. I think it's also best from an adaptational perspective because it would require little backstory (not much of silmarils, Valinor, etc).
And in terms of being a simples and cohesive story, it makes the most sense. It has beginning (the curse of Morgoth on Hurin) and an end- when Nienor casts herself over the cliff, which always makes me cry, Turin stabs himself, and Morwen dies.
LOL. that is Lord of the Rings

Very disappointing.
oc2phish07 1 year ago
Aragorn nor Legolas nor gimli nor arwen would be in The Sillmarillion. And elrond would be just a boy with elros

I got chills.
But seriously, I'm not sure that if they begin to film the Silmarillion one day they'd make it epic and beautiful enough. And probably they'd make it a trilogy too.

i don't understand! is it lord of the rings or the silmarillion? is silmarillion a new movie? when can we watch it? are these the same actors from lord of the rings? i mean its like watching lord of the rings! wats the silmarillion????
ijrefik9 1 year ago
@ijrefik9 The Silmarillion (to make short) is like a giant prequel for LOTR and the Hobbit. Galadriel was around then, but she was young. There is no knowledge of making the Silmarillion into a movie yet. This is a fan made trailer- and a well done one I might add.
PeaceForMiddleEarth 1 year ago
@ijrefik9 lol the silmarillion takes place ages before the lord of the rings. and is about the quest for the silmarills which where basicaly super rare gems. the story starts with the creation of arda (the world) and hardly any of it takes place in the normal Middle Earth from the lord of the rings. and it focuses much more on the elves then any other race. its not a movie and could never be a movie its just a big saga.

The Silmarillion would take about ten full length movies to tell the story,and only 7 would be worth actually watching...keep dreaming.

Be faithful to the books, and 99% of the public will find it too long and boring.
greg31415 1 year ago
I'm gonna be honest with all of you; I would like to see the making of the Silmarillion (one movie, many movies, TV series, whatever fits best), but with one condition: That it would not be a Hollywood production. They have butchered too many stories by adapting them into movies.
Gondaldin 1 year ago
uhhhhhhhh why is there all this footage from the LOTR movies??
BeaconofMusic 1 year ago
To say that it's well done is reductive. My absolute compliments!
About how they could make this into a film:
1) Either a very well done TV series (if HBO pulls off A Song of Ice and Fire, why not?)
2) Or a selective movie. Say, the make only the Quenta Silmarillion, and choose to follow it from the point of view of one of the main characters who's in it from start to end, like Maedhros or Galadriel.
3) They make movies out of single stories, like Beren&Luthien, Tùrin, or the Silmaril quest.
antalya1705 1 year ago
The Silmarillion is too much of a story to make into a movie. Most of its content is the excruciating detail given to major elements. A movie would not be able to capture that and keep a good pace. The pace and tone given to the books are perfect for a story of that scale, but making a movie would require changing that.
Also, one of Tolkien's pervading themes is the passing away of beautiful things over time. For a true fan, making a movie out of this would seem almost heretical.
picardkid 1 year ago
Never in a million million years would happen, it isn't Hollywood material... just not - and look at the damage done the trilogy... cutting out whole chapters, neglecting the scouring of the shire! People look how we longed for a LOTR movie - it wasn't nearly good enough.
Mellisa582010 1 year ago
The Silmarillion is waaay to big for a single movie. Would have to be a trilogy or a tv series.
zooeyhall 1 year ago
Dude the silmarillion takes place before aragorn or legolas or anything like that... AND DONT PUT PIRATES OF THE CARABIAN FOR LOTR
morningstar113 1 year ago
@morningstar113 I agree! Was very startling to see Depp's girlish face--I suppose to represent Earendil (?)
Should have shot of John Travolta as he appeared in "Battlefield Earth", perhaps to represent an Easterling?)
zooeyhall 1 year ago
@zooeyhall
see thank you!!!!!

EarwenAltariel 2 years ago 4
@EarwenAltariel i agree! while he does a great Prince Caspian, could he pull off an angry elf prince (then king) who takes on the dark lord, leading his people to their downfall? good choice though
don't forget his seven sons!
VioletRose1721 1 year ago
@EarwenAltariel and @bingowasmyname For Luthien, who I imagine as darker Felicity Jones and for Idril who to me is fairer the chick who played Alice.
chuckeriino 1 year ago
Very nice indeed!
Tathrin111 2 years ago 17
I think it's a brilliant idea!!
EarwenAltariel 2 years ago
@Tathrin111 That's exactly what i have been thinking the last couple of years!! The Silmarillion as a TV series..
azrael666ethereal 2 years ago
I agree with you..If Simarillion ever was adapted in any way....it would need to be a tv series. Making a movie or a series of movies is just too much. That would be like trying to make a movie on the entire Bible. I could see them making a movie on Turin Turumbar or Earendil however. That would be sweet. A TV series would work on those stories as well.
williwo 1 year ago
@Tathrin111 I totally agree with you! If they could actually drag LOST on for 9 or how ever many season long and get their major actors to stay on board, then they could totally make this into a tv series!
seandeaon 1 year ago
@Tathrin111
maybe like band of brothers just bigger and greater

@Tathrin111
Well, I think it would be a good idea to shoot just parts of the Silmarillion, and not the hole book - Maybe the life of Feanor, the story of Beren & Luthien or the tale of the children of Hurin.

I can see Anne Hathaway as Luthien Tunuviel. How about Jared Leto for Beren? Both have enchanting eyes!
RationalPrejudice 2 years ago
I wasn't expecting something so inspired because you were mostly using LotR clips (I thought it would be difficult getting into the Sil-mindset), but you're a good editor and it took me away! As for the question you posed in your video description, I'd split Sil into six movies: one covering Feanor/Exile from Valinor, Beren and Luthien, Turin, Gondolin, Elwing's escape with the silmaril into Sirion/Earandil's voyage, and Akallabeth bringing up the rear. There's plenty other possibilities too! (:
onlyamemory1 2 years ago
I always like Maeglin until he started acting like a dick.
shrikechan 2 years ago
IMHO, the only actress I could think of that could play Luthien (from a purely physical perspective) would be a younger Courteney Cox. She's extremely pretty yet not "hot", which is how I imagine Luthien Tinuviel, and she has the black hair, fair skin and blue eyes to match.
But then again, that's just my opinion.
hieloco01 2 years ago
Luthien would be EXTRODINARILY hard to cast. Perhaps Arwen Evenstar was beautiful, but Luthien was far more beautiful then she.
The one I want to see the most is Narn I Hin Hurin! I loved that book, and all the characters in it. Morwen and Nienor Niniel were my favourites though, and it was soooooo sad.
bingowasmyname 2 years ago 6
@bingowasmyname
Yeah, you're right. No one is beautiful and fair enough to play Luthien.
My favourite tale is about the Fall of Gondolin and the story of Tuor/Idril/ Maeglin. Idril would be difficult to cast too, though :-)
EarwenAltariel 2 years ago
Maeglin was such a JERK! I am also really fond of the Fall of Gondolin, but that story is so sad as well.
I think the Simarillion would be hard to make into a movie because it was so EPIC, if you understand what I mean. Lord of the Rings was that too, but the First Age was so much more dramatic and epic and furious.
From the Girdle of Melian, to Beren and Luthien, to Narn I Hin Hurin, to The Battle of Unumbered Tears, so hard to portray in a movie.
bingowasmyname 2 years ago
@EarwenAltariel
GOOD TRAILER- I WANT 2C D MOTHER OF ALL SHELOBS- UNGOLIANT & THE CREATION OF THE DWARVES & ELVES BY ILUVATAR.
zeppiafy 2 years ago
@bingowasmyname
Children of Hurin would also be my top pick for a story based on the Silmarillion, in spite of its dour nature. Turin is my favourite character from Tolkien (I could write a whole essay about the complexity of his character) but I adore Nienor, Morwen, and Beleg especially as well. I think it's also best from an adaptational perspective because it would require little backstory (not much of silmarils, Valinor, etc).
onlyamemory1 2 years ago
@onlyamemory1
And in terms of being a simples and cohesive story, it makes the most sense. It has beginning (the curse of Morgoth on Hurin) and an end- when Nienor casts herself over the cliff, which always makes me cry, Turin stabs himself, and Morwen dies.
