Actually, gamelan is the ensemble. It's probably an angklung. It's used in Secret of Mana too, I believe.

Ah, my favorite song in the game. So rich and wonderful, it -flawlessly- paints the image of the moonlit city perfectly. I can imagine to this day the lamps hanging in the dark streets, swaying back and forth in the wind :P
