  • does this have any practical use?

  • will it boot after that?

  • @app0the yes

  • what is this con thing exactly? do you know?

  • @LOLZpersonok see the comments! ;)

  • @LOLZpersonok From Wikipedia: Concon is a computer bug that appeared in the Windows 95 and Windows 98 operating systems. The name comes from the fact that referring to the file "C:\con\con" would crash these systems. This was a particular case of a more general bug, where the system failed to respond correctly to file paths containing multiple device file names.

  • virtual pc noob

  • @VovaVirus its a vm..

  • @VovaVirus Probably he has Windows XP as his host operating system and is running Windows 98 on a virtual machine, like VMware or Microsoft's Virtual PC

  • @VovaVirus NOOB...It's no picture....It's virtual PC....With it you run a windows on a Windows...OR windows ON A MAC!!

  • @bogdanmihai58 FFS FUCK OF ALREADY

  • @VovaVirus its not. he is using a virtual pc (lets you run other operating systems in windows) (IE i can run windows 3.1 at the same time as running win 7)

  • @VovaVirus no it svirtual pc

  • @VovaVirus He's using a virtual PC. You can download it on the web :) Just search it in google. P.S. It's not a picture.

  • If you are on virtual pc you can crash it by putting the ram to the lowest that it can run then run a file called virus.bat.

You make it in notepad so do that before anything. This is now you make it:

    1:open notepad

    2:type virus.bat start virus.bat

    3:save as virus.bat

4:turn off virtual pc,decrese ram to 10mb and start then start virus.bat and wait until the bsod comes.

I've only tried this on windows 95 and 98 so it might not work on other systems.

  • ok, i cant run winme right now, but i will try it... can you upload a video for winme ?

  • Will this work with Windows XP?

  • just do /con/con and this crash vfat driver...

  • Should I try this on a real Windows 98?

  • try it, but close all runing applications to avoid possible data corruption

  • win 95 maybe

  • and ME?

  • i dont know... try it.. and tell me.. xD

  • hey this is my new account. im running xp.doesnt work.

  • On Windows ME this bug has been fixed.

  • you may have to manualy install drivers for 95 and 3.1.

Windows 3.1 is a bitch to find drivers for. You need to know what drivers virtual machine is running.

  • Did you make that System is busy BSOD?

  • its not fake

  • wont work

  • è su virtual box?

  • Microsoft VirtualPC

  • just tupe "con/con"

  • SORRY NOT SHIT!! oops :P habit... I meant "THIS" God... I feel dumb now :D

  • you dont have to type all that.

    you can just type con\con

i have fun crashing my windows 98 =P

  • Everyone , VirtualPC is a program to test systems. You can install them , like a real PC , but just that you select the OS , that you can set up the hardware , crash-test it , save the state and shut down removing all the changes. That does not infect your system if you don't share any virus with shared folders.

  • Why do I see the default backround from windows xp?

  • its a virtual pc

  • its not fake, its a virtual pc

  • You're running Windows 98 on Windows XP, eh?

  • its a virtual pc

  • try again... ;)

  • the code

  • con\con\con.lhz

  • BSODs' make me smile for some reason.

  • me to!

  • Concon is a computer bug that appeared in the Windows 95 and Windows 98 operating systems. The name comes from the fact that referring to the file "C:\con\con" would crash these systems.

  • See? The name of the bug is Concon, not CON. CON is not a bug. Concon IS the bug.

And anyway, do you understand that Wikipedia is edited by humans that are as wrong as you?

  • Microsoft Security Bulletin (MS00-017) fixes that bug.

  • lol, my console froze.

  • Yes, Microsoft Virtual PC

  • 1. This is Windows, I'm not impressed by any means.

    2. This is not a bug, it's a reserved MS-DOS filename. What is a bug is that it crashes Windows.

    3. They know about it; they just didn't want to fix it until NT so all people rushed to buy NT. Actually, it is STILL reserved in NT, just more proof that NT is based in MS-DOS!

  • 1. Anti-windows comment :o

    2. this is ok

    3. In Vista it is still reserved :P

  • 1. Correct

    2. No, you can use a HTML page with an image tag which requests that resource so it continually crashes the computer when someone visits your page

    3. FYI, all operating systems of Microsoft after ME are based on NT.

  • It's a bug. Fixed in Windows ME and later.

  • This is not a bug, it's a reserved MS-DOS filename. What is a bug is that it crashes Windows.

  • Try it in unpatched Windows 98.

  • Search on Wikipedia "concon"

  • CON is a reserved MS-DOS filename for devices. Windows 9x systems are MS-DOS programs, so using that as a command crashes them. Only using "con" nothing happens because the system is able to catch that, however, accessing it this way (one inside another), the system does not notice that it will crash requesting it resource.

CON is not a bug. The bug is that it crashes the system.

I hate YouTube comments, people always talking about the PS3/360 what breaks more. Who cares. But this is worse.

  • Try doing it with:

    # PRN

    # AUX

    # NUL

    # LPT1

    # COM1

    It still happens.

So it's clear that it's because it's a reserved filename. Not a bug. A reserved filename.

  • i'm agree.

the video shows a sample... it works with any reserved filename... the con\con\con is just a easy to remember sample...

  • lol so they havnt fixed that bug witch bill gates had during his presentaion

  • Hahaha lol.

  • This command also works with Windows 95, although I do not recommend it. At this point, everytime I boot the computer there is a "Windows Protection Error", and I am asked to restart the computer. Seeing as how this just leads to the error again, I'm looking at a reinstall of Windows 95. Good thing it's just a test computer =p

  • My brother has a Windows 95 PC, and I do it to it every now and then. It doesn't have the Windows Protection Error thing come up, though.

  • Yeah, as it turns out it's just this computer that sucks. EVERYTIME I shut it down improperly it requires a format and windows reinstall. The wonders of 95 eh?

  • ujuuyyhyttgttttgtgtttgooooooooooooooryhipoe

  • Does it do anything bad?

  • no, only crash it :P

    after reboot works normally

its Bill Gates command for entertainment purpouses ;)

  • What makes it crash?

  • a bug in the filesystem driver

  • con\con\con.lhz

Doesnt seem to work, It says "file not found."

If 98 is updated while still 98 via MS Update, will it work?

  • I dont know that, but without update it works cool :P

  • lol, I should try that.

    "con\con\con.the"?

  • "con\con\con.lhz" ;)
