I really like these videogame history videos, but the inaccurate statement about the PC Engine not selling well, the brushing aside of Rondo of Blood (which routinely sells near $100 on ebay today), and the total ommission of the Castlevania arcade game were flaws in the Castlevania history series.
@woskis9161 IMO I think that maybe because of the trademark and the copyright of the title, because of that, you cant just name it whatever you want, otherwise you'd end up in a legal dispute over the trademark and copyright stuff. but yeah I agree, some of the name now I dont even know what exactly it mean, lol.

I'll never understand anyone saying that LoS is not a Castlevania game, while I could agree with the opening of the game not being very Castlevania once I got to the vampire's castle there was no question in my mind that LoS certainly deserves the Castlevania title.

@NhatZzKie It has and will always be about the Belmont's. Alucard is a very overated ,yet important character. He is far from the icon if anything it's the belmont's and if I were to be more specific it would be Simon Belmont or to end the old story of CV it would have to be julius with the demon castle war . Also LoS felt so good to me at least because I played as a Belmont as the main character (even with the controversial ending) for the first time since playing Juste.

Typical over the top super cool guy that can be found in many similar games (Taking Dante from DMK as an example here). Alucard is by no means a bad character though.
@Ryodakun It is not that Alucard is a bad character it's just that because of him and SOTN(metroidvania style) that the so called main characters in the series the Belmonts seem nothing more than a side story. Some even think that HE is the icon of CV he did something that is not supposed to happen: make the main characters somewhat secondary characters and that is the reason why I do not like Alucard.

For everyone who keeps saying its not Castlevania; guess what it is. LOS is a reboot of the whole series so its not gonna be like the old 2-D versions you know. LOS was great and better then most games I have played yes I loved GOW but their story compared to this was compelling with an ending no one would expect. Everything about this game is great and has fit perfect into gaming for the next gen. LOS is one of the best games out and if you cant agree to that well too bad.

Idk how they are going to do the sequel, to be honest that would be out of order in the future but if they made this a success I wouldn't doubt the game. These guys made an epic game and I cant wait to play the DLC this weekend. I dont care how short it is this game makes you enjoy every moment I am just wondering when the next DLC will be released.
I really hope there is no Lords of Shadow sequel. The game was a commercial flop and by the way what type of gamer would buy it. No hardcore Castlevania fan i know bought it because it has almost nothing to do with Castlevania, the Sony fanboys have God of War and Shadow of the Colossus and the Microsoft fanboys think it's the 20 most boring hours in a game.

Very interesting review on the entire series I love the Castlevania games minus well a select few and am intrigued to try Lords of Shadow which i am now excited about. But i will always remeber Symphony of the Night as being the first Castlevania i have ever played, and the PSP game was awesome!!!

i really loved lords of shadow but i must admit i havent really played the other games apart from symphony of the night which i found extremely hard. a sequel to lord of shadow will be awesome given that i really liked the end ;). can't wait to see more of this game

on the contrary. Lords of Shadow was simply a reboot of the story line. Sure it didn't take place in a castle or have the Belmonts, but there was plenty of nostalgic moments and nods to classic castlevania within the game. It was a great addition to the library and I can't wait till the sequel comes out.

I love Castlevania Lords of Shadow, it is a good game, but it has nothing to do with Castlevania and it is a mix of God of War, Shadow of the Colossus and Uncharted. Is not an original game but still is a good game. I would have love to see Simon Belmont but oh well.
In almost every other CV game the only vampire present was Dracula himself. One of the reasons I hold LoD in higher regard than either of the PS2 titles........it actually featured werewolves and vampires as common enemies, just as LoS does. Once again, I feel that most of the haters for this new game are SotN era fans who equate Castlevania with Alucard and/or Metroidvania styled gameplay. LoS is clearly meant to pay homage to the pre-SotN titles.
I love how stupid Konami was in the first years of 2000 lol also only make games for the modern teens cuz u tend to get both younger kids (sadly) and teens look at Cod Halo GTA etc. i have NEVER judge a game on grapics its this least important part of gameing. It all about GAME PLAY. Space Invaders for the 2600 is the best game EVER

dude lord of shadow did borrow shadow of the collosus,but it did NOT borrow from GOW cuz castlevania INTRODUCED that kind of gameplay,and then came devil may cry and THEN GOW!CASTLEVANIA did it FIRST in some 3d game of theirs...

i really loved lords of shadow but i must admit i havent really played the other games apart from symphony of the night which i found extremely hard. a sequel to lord of shadow will be awesome given that i really liked the end ;). can't wait to see more of this game

"lords of shadow" was made only to take that legendary name and it seems they success , i don't say castlevania lords of shadow was bad !! but it wasn't a castlevania game ! so i prefer if they just called it "lords of shadow"

@TheBelmonthunter Its because of gamers like you that this industry will never evolve. Stop hankering for the days of old; you have the old Castlevania games to play to your hearts content. Allow the series to evolve and enjoy what we're given - if Konami keep giving us Castlevania games like LoS, I know that I and a rather large amount of others will enjoy keeping the series alive.

How in the hell could you miss this? Your posts display a serious lack of knowledge about how the game industry or world at large works. My confusion comes from the fact you are agreeing with me and yet cussing me out.
What I was implying was to let the series grow and evolve instead of live in the past.
You're basically saying the same thing, but adding an extra dimension by talking about the devs, not just the players.

There's still a large population who love and play retro games and will buy and play more. Including the game developers I wrote about. There will always be a market for them and they will always buy them. It's not hankering. It's knowing what you like.
My bet is 99% of 2D Castlevania fans do not ultimately like the 3D ones. And they have the $ to buy

on the contrary. Lords of Shadow was simply a reboot of the story line. Sure it didn't take place in a castle or have the Belmonts, but there was plenty of nostalgic moments and nods to classic castlevania within the game. It was a great addition to the library and I can't wait till the sequel comes out.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, i cant fucking wait... curious how they're going to do this, i mean whose going to be the protagonist? Maybe someone from the Morris family tree? Or are there going other Belmonts, which would be confusing since Gabriel is the first and only Belmont, and we all know what happened to him in the end. Well I'm up for surprises, mercury steam did a great job on the reboot, and this is coming from a huge castlevania fan. Cant wait for a new one.

after watching this i have four things to say:
1. dark is always GOOD! castlevania's no kirby! wtf..
2. continue the alucard timeline!!! make solid storylines to support it
3. 2d is always hardcore!!! seeing alucard walk with ghost trails behind and other game effects makes it a truly fluid game
4. make it a desktop multiplayer!! like harmony of despair, it could be an awesome mmorpg-like game(borderlands)

I love Castlevania Lords of Shadow, it is a good game, but it has nothing to do with Castlevania and it is a mix of God of War, Shadow of the Colossus and Uncharted. Is not an original game but still is a good game. I would have love to see Simon Belmont but oh well.

In almost every other CV game the only vampire present was Dracula himself. One of the reasons I hold LoD in higher regard than either of the PS2 titles........it actually featured werewolves and vampires as common enemies, just as LoS does. Once again, I feel that most of the haters for this new game are SotN era fans who equate Castlevania with Alucard and/or Metroidvania styled gameplay. LoS is clearly meant to pay homage to the pre-SotN titles.

I love how stupid Konami was in the first years of 2000 lol also only make games for the modern teens cuz u tend to get both younger kids (sadly) and teens look at Cod Halo GTA etc. i have NEVER judge a game on grapics its this least important part of gameing. It all about GAME PLAY. Space Invaders for the 2600 is the best game EVER
