you know what is incredible ? That those gentlemen made this piece , and they also thought : not good enough ! Let's remake it in a total different way!!!!
I love the Floyd and hearing this pre-DSOTM version is like getting another song from them...although this is different, I like it and will enjoy it along with the 1973 version. Thanks for putting this up...just took me awhile to find it.
@sitarless: Is that the only bootleg this was ever released on (I know that might be an impossible question to answer, but just thought I'd give it a whirl)? Also, did PF ever plan to release this legitimately themselves at any point?
I have an old bootleg of this on a cassette. What is the source of this in terms of the actual recording? IOW, who recorded it, and in what form was it originally "released?"
Pink Floyd's psychedelic and progressive rock style along with their use of alternate means to acquire style definitely paved the way for modern use of the Synth.

as i understand it, they played this very few times before settling on the tune we know and love, "on the run." the band wasn't overly fond of this piece as a whole, but played it to fill space during the live shows before recording. The electronic "on the run" was written in studio.
Like so many other Floyd compositions in the early days they were rehearsed live before they went into the studio. "The Travel Section" evolved into "On the Run" as "Nothing Parts 1 -36" became "The Return of the Son of Nothing" which became "Echoes." This is so awesome to hear. Kudos
this is from a londong 72 show. I know it is london, i think it is 72, but that version of "Breathe" was used on "Crackers" bootleg as a substitute for BREATHE at Hollywood Bowl 72 because the taper had technical difficulties. then another taper got the full HOLLYWOOD BOWL SHOW 1972 on stereo tape, but "Echoes" (& "On The Run") the taper taps his microphone to test it. I wonder what type of equiptment was used and how it got in. You can hear the difference.
juampadj, The Travel Section is completely different to "On the run", it was always played live till the construction of on the run, on the actual album, no inclusion or part of this song is on, "on the run" theyr completly different pieces of music, one just replaced the other
This is "The Travel Section"...just an EARLY live jamming that later with the inclusion of synthesisers will be called "On the Run". Not an Alternate version.
naaaa excelente esta zapada..y eso que david decia que no estaban del todo contentos hasta que mandaron el sintetizador con on the run...a mi me mata the travel section, deberia estar en algun disco!!!
This isnt called on the run and it wasn't improvised the song is called t"The Travel Section" and it was supposed to be there and not "on the run" but they made "on the run" and replaced this i think it is good though.
No this isn't the best version at all.
Roger Waters' most recent rendition of DSOTM live with a seriously amazing updated version was stunning.

Seems like they waited til the Wall to use this sound again, but the alienation feels right..

This piece was reffered to as "the travel sequence" or simply "travel". I would love to have heard a studio recorded version of this. great post!

the riff at 0:17 is a foreshadowing to part of the intro riff of "lunchbox" by marilyn manson. (meaning it sounds like it)
