  • I'm trying to play and collect a majority/ all RPG games from the NES era. So... this along with the other ultima games great and well worth it? And what other RPGs are there?

  • The only other one I know of is the original Final Fantasy. Figuring out what you're supposed to do next is easier in that game than it is with Ultima Exodus, the limited equipment causes problems so you're practically going to need to powerlevel a lot and there are several good places to do it, the best early on being the terra caverns and the far western area. Have 2 warriors, a red mage, and a white mage and the game is much easier.

  • and can you suggest any other RP's for NES except Dragon warrior that you really like?

  • RP's? I'm assuming you mean RPG's. I actually wouldn't have a clue in that case. Back then, RPG's were completely foreign to me. Sure I played Ultima when you could rent it, I had no idea what it was and it was only by chance. I only got into RPG's in 2002 when it came to FF7.

  • @platolol

Final Fantasy or Wizardry were pretty engrossing. Faxanadu is a very under-rated RPG that plays a lot like the Adventure of Link. I also liked A Bard's Tale and King's Quest V. Hydlide and Faria were imitable versions of Dragon Warrior/Ultima.

  • @platolol destiny of an emperor. amazng game man. but unfortunately only part 1

  • aside from Dawn and the starter town, are the other towns in the world really just obsolete rest stops?

  • There's a few other towns around, about 5 or 6 others. You can certainly visit them if you wish, though not every one of them is easily accessible.

  • I had an unusual thing happen to me in this game when I was a kid.....I was playing late at nite, around 12:30 am, and I was walking around one of the towns not sure which one, I think the town had a jail but Im not sure, so I talked to this one guy and he said: ''Hey kid, it's too late to be playing Ultima Exodus, turn it off and go to sleep!''

As a kid, that really freaked me out, I just want to know, is this part of the game? or did somthing weird really happend to me? please someone answer!

  • Yes, there is someone there that actually says it. I don't recall where, but I think it's in the area with the Casino.

  • ok thanks! I always wanted to know for years now, I wont feel so freaked out anymore! ^_^

  • Are you sure that you weren't drunk?

  • That toxic stuff (alcohol) can really have an effect on your mind.

  • Yeah, I guess, and really if it makes you see a hallusination of your mom inside Ultima Exodus ordering you to sleep...

  • at 9 years old! I doubt it..

  • That happened to me too but I think he said something about doing homework. I immediately knew the game was possessed, probably by satan or pazuzu, and I was never the same.

  • However, when you think about it when you're older, you'll know it was only a string of text that's built into the game.

  • True!

  • I remember hating this game as a kid, since I could never seem to get anywhere...looking at it now, it seems a bit more interesting, even if the pace is a bit slow.

  • Yeah, the sound effects for shooting ranged weapons or enemies missing are quite funny. "Bwoop!" "Bwep!" "Deeoooowoo" "Bloomk".

I admit, for its watered down gameplay, the soundtrack actually has some really beautiful sound to it (search for tracks like "Hitomi no Naifu"), and is still a difficult but engrossing game.

  • I think in part 8 of this video, where a pirate missed 5 times in a row was the funniest moment for that. "Boy do you need to go back to aiming school" or something along that line is what I say from this....

  • Aside from the damage it can do, my favorite thing about the blowgun is infinite ammo.

  • Infinite ammo is one thing, but the fact you can strike the enemy from afar is the main thing, preventing damage.

  • Are you kidding? The narration is a great portion of what makes these videos great.

  • In the old Apple 2 version of this game, it was possible to steal from the vendor if you had a thief in your group, but you ran the risk of being caught and you had to fight the guards, who would be sure to beat you. Is this true in the NES version too?

  • I've never tried that. I've been experimenting with the other professions lately. The thief, even before reading your comment, was the next thing I was thinking about testing out and with those level 25 characters around, the guards are very easy to defeat (I took out a chain of 50 with only 500 HP missing after all that - no time to heal or usage of the sands of time either).

  • Interesting walkthrough, I eagerly wait for future parts.

  • The walkthrough is done, but just needs to be uploaded....
