  • this is sad

  • gloom is probably my favourite amiga fps, mainly because its the only one thats any good and runs well on my bog standard 1200

  • Gloom is perhaps the only one with half decent artwork...

  • wtf?

    i lol'd!

  • Amiga fps with low fps :P

  • gloom ? a doom clone?

  • i remember those times. i had a1200 and sepnt countless hours playing fears, the scariest game, with excellent atmosphere.

  • Gloom appear be like Super Contra in FPS.

  • I remember that AB3D II had some cool light effects, but the game was horribly slow (with a 030) to be playable.

The game's (asm) source code is available in Aminet, but no one dared to try to port it (does anyone knows even _how_ to compile that in an Amiga? it's a mess)

  • nice aliens music :)

  • Hehe ''Ripley youre just burning metal!'' just epic.

  • Nemic i know Nemac

  • And there was Death Mask too

  • @Cohortrohoc biggest disappointment of my amiga life that game

  • gloom... damn enemies are friekin exploding to guts and everything. More games like this.

  • 2:48 - Whoa, whoa, whoa... is that the fucking deagle from Duke 3d?! It fucking IS! Those bastards at 3d realms ripped it from this game!

  • In my opinion, the first FPS on Amiga was "Behind the Iron Gate",runs good on standard A500,1MB RAM,(textures only in some places, like paintings on the wall).Second in my collection was "Citadel",but runs sloow on my A1200+4MB FastRAM.Gloom Deluxe is the best on basic A1200.

  • wow genetic species looked awesome back in the days. nice textures and light glows

  • Gloom (Deluxe) was the most fun of them all, although I also loved AB3D (the first one) for its awesome atmosphere.

  • dude, you can also look up and down by using the keypad in Breathless

  • they all look classy

  • Citadel isn't included in the vid, a shooter which also runs on an ECS Amiga.

  • Man, I remember Gloom, at the time my bro had doom on the PC and I had a Amiga 500. Couldn't play it :(

  • thanx for the vids,

I was playing gloom deluxe, breathless and

ab3ds on my amiga ppc060 and 280 mhz

with 64 mb ram, too bad those games

werent optimised for the processor, but it

    was a great time :D

  • OMG fantastic, what a blast from the past, i played most of these on my A1200 with its 030 card and 16meg o ram, AB3D was such a blast and AB3D2 was amazing for the time, i just wished my free demo (came free with amiga magazine) worked past level 2!! i never did buy the full game, gloom was the most fun, split screen co-op mode with bouncy bullets!!

great Vid, thanks for the memories

  • breathless looks awesome. i wish i had an cd32 with a sx32

  • Nice Aliens soundtrack :-)

  • Excellent showcase of Amiga First Person Shooters games.

  • The Amiga's only holdback when it came to 3D gaming was that COmmodore had gone under 2 years before the 3D accellerators started to appear on the market. A damn shame, really.

  • But Doom and Doom II didn't use 3D cards and these are what kicked off all this FPS stuff properly.

Amiga had 8 bit planes to manipulate individually to draw ANYTHING in 256 colours....PCs only had to write 1 byte to screen memory so 8x faster for this type of game before you even consider how tight C= were with their crappy 7 or 14mhz CPUs. Amiga's custom chips and CPU as standard were totally unsuitable for these kind of games.

  • Genetic Species seems to have great graphics.

  • Gloom (Deluxe, SE) was the best of them all, followed by Breathless. I also loved the first Alien Breed 3D - although the graphics was poor, the atmosphere was simply awesome...

  • if t

  • I would suspect a port of Marathon Trilogy from Bungie should be possible too, since it ran on 68k macs. The data files are freeware nowadays, and the source has been openly released long ago.

  • I know that the original Marathon game ran under emulation on the Amiga, 10 years back.

  • Great Days.

  • Great video, Genetic Species has to be my favourite of them all.

Check out my A1200 running Quake...

  • Lol Gloom rather than Doom :)

  • Were most of those Amiga 1200 / CD32 only games?

  • all of these games were on the amiga 1200. the only ones on the cd32 were fears, alien breed 3d,gloom i believe.

  • All were out for the 1200, only gloom alien breed 3d and fear came out on the cd32.

  • Ah excellent, thanks for the info!!!

  • Nice from you to put on one of the tracks of Aliens! Anyway...I'am played alls of these when i was 3-4 years old:D

  • The Amiga was such an amazing piece of hardware back then. Most other computers couldn't even touch it. A real shame that it didn't get the chance to evolve.

Although there's always WinUAE, I still miss those days... Perhaps I should hook up my old A1200 again, see if it still works ;-)

  • I was curious to see how they came out - by the time Alien Breed 3D were released I had moved to the PC. Gloom came across quite well, but the gameplay seemed a bit iffy (I assume it's just more and more corridors). Alien Breed 3D looked good.

  • And amazing is that Gloom Deluxe runs on not expanded A1200. It has only 14Mhz nad simple AGA chip. Amiga had great potential and flawless OS but it was wasted.

  • Hmmmm...I had most of these games. Too bad they didnt have such a soundtrack ;-)

  • The chuncky-to-planar routines were very good, and getting better with the time !

Too bad it was not included in hardware, even if you can "trick" it with the copper and some fast blitter routines

  • Damn its FEARS not FEAR, and its NEMAC not NEMIC. but i am not having a go at you, just making a correction :) Great Video, although you should have showed a lot more of Genetic Species :)

  • sorry ;)

  • oh mate, don't worry.. i am actually sorry for finding faults that don't really matter. The main thing is that you put the Video in the first place and that is good enough for me! I should do another video soon, its just that i don't have enough time. So don't mind me :) Catchya mate.

  • @blade004

Everything also feels a bit slow IMO :( .

  • Damn. Ive still got all those. :-)

  • I thought breathless was the nicest looking .. but the bad guys let it down ..

    AB3D hurt my eyes lol

  • Ahh the memories.....

AB3D2 - loved the level design.

  • it was Nemac, not nemic.

  • I have a question. I'm running Gloom deluxe AGA in WinUAE. and it looks nothing like your one. Mine is much more blocky and running at a slower frame rate. Did u tweat yours somehow? if so how?

  • Most of the footage was recorded off my a Real Amiga, with a 68040 running at 40mhz, which is why it looks smooth, however I have played it in winuae and does slightly jump but never had any real issues with it and did no special set up for it.

  • How did you configure UAE? And did you change the settings from the game itself?

  • Well I've got Amiga Forever 2008, highly recommend, and that is what I used to run gloom on, just the setting that they recommend.

  • Wow.... Genetic Species actually looked really good!

    Especially the flamethrower effects.

  • alienbreed 3d2 runs at 8 fps in fullscreen including the turbopatch 0n my 060.

    makes no fun.

  • Am I right to assume that none of these games had the strafing function?

  • Alien Breed and Gloom featured it, I just hardly use it

  • Okay, thanks :).

  • Ahhh Amiga...

  • Genetic Species looks really good.

  • i have all the games played here and i have to say gloom and alien breed were my fave amiga fps's. brathless and genetic species were great games also. but nemac and fearless im sorry to say are complete crap.

  • agreed.

  • just got the reply was gonna ask anyway are you useing an emu or running these on your amiga? only ask cos it looks like an 030 like mine always wanted to play alien breed 3d2 the killing grounds on a top end machine to really see it the way it was meant to be played.

  • They are running on a 68040 with 28Mhz and a 40Mhz FPU. The only game that really struggles on this machine is Alien Breed 3d 2 TKG.

  • Great video amigang :) I played all these as well, and love almost all of them expect for AB3D II which ran like crap even on an 060 ( so i read ) but i was running it on my 030/50 :) Genetic Species i bought the original too and it blew me away as to how amazing it looked and how fast it ran, which was silky smooth on my 030. Another couple of great FPS games were Trapped, Trapped II & Testament.

  • /sign

  • i had death mask. what an absolute disappointment that game was.

  • Great video. The best one in terms of smoothness and graphics for me has to be Gloom. Though, I am sure they are all fun to play.
