  • Depeche Mode. Eff yeah!

  • Take a look at the guys who consistently win at No-Gi Worlds and ADCC at the highest levels and you will find that they train the Gi. Period. Bravo can continue to ignore this fact, but to claim Gi training is anachronistic, is plain foolish given the evidence to the contrary.

The 10th Planet cult of personality is reaching Helio Gracie levels of intensity. Truth is, both supposed demi-gods are kind of twats, when it comes down to it. Talented, inspiring (to some), but twats nonetheless.

  • @seclfs

No that wouldn't be your "fault"

However, it is your respnsibility to use the brain you have as best you can. Never feel that your opinion is less than a celebrities. What is a celebrity anyway? A person that can't make it in a normal profession, so they shill for the media moguls, who BTW, are attacking our freedom on YT, FB and many other Internet Social sites.

Joe Rogan works for those people. His best interest is not your best interest.

  • Right on!

  • Get this through your fucking pitiful empty brains. Nobody is saying that the "high guard" which Eddie claims to have invented(and calls the rubber guard) isn't a useful guard position. It can be, but is by no means the end all be all in MMA.

The discussion here is whether Eddie Bravo "invented" the high guard that has been used since the time of Plato for fucks sake.

A physical position can't be "invented" you slackers. Just like turning your eyeballs inwards isn't "inventing" cross-eye.

  • @MrJamesbragan I was born with a smaller brain than most people, is that my fault?

  • Rubber guard is useless in UFC. If you place your opponent in rubber guard it's a very low chance of getting a sub, and a very high probability of being stood back up for stalling. UFC judges tend to penalize those fighters that hold guard too long. The UFC judges reward fast standing action, and viscous ground and pound.

Fuck the stupid asses that waste time claiming to have "invented" the rubber guard. Let's keep it real at 10th planet for a change. Shiiiiit.

  • @MrJamesbragan Sometimes getting stood up is exactly what you want isn't it? I have seen rubber guard make wrestlers so uncomfortable they just stand up on their own too. I think everything has its place, who would have thought spinning elbows would work? Jon Jones uses them often. I never thought the Karate Kid Crane Kick would work but Randy got KTFO with it. Rogan would kick your ass though LOL.

  • All this is being done for money. Bravo and Rogan have a plan to open up a thousand phony little dojos and make money off the hard work put in by the Brazillians.

Really pathetic if you want the truth. Bravo is a big time pussy. And Rogan is even a bigger pussy. But, there are enough fools out there to believe this shit.

  • @MrJamesbragan yes i am one of those fools who uses the rubber guard while doing mma and i can see that it is the most effective guard for mma, eddie is not saying anything bad about brasilians, its just that grappling in mma is no gi and thats why you need to pratcice no gi, but if you say that eddie is a big time pussy it just shows that you are just a regular hater who would get strangled like a bitch by anyone who knows his shit ;)

  • You're jiujitsu is great,,,,but you're not a hero Eddie.....as hard as you try and make yourself a legend with these videos, you will never be considered a pioneer. You make it seem that if people don't accept 10th planet than we are all fools and will have crappy no gi. You beat ONE GRACIE!! Where was your rubber guard in all your losses?

  • @pinkfloyd105

eddie never ever claims to be a hero. if you understood the level of negativity he gets at a constant daily rate then youd understand that he HAS to CONSTANTLy push his twist on the art he loves. How many gracies have you submitted? how many times have you rolled with eddie and tapped him? everyone has wins and losses. even the great marcelo garcia. nobody is a hero. we are all just trying to have fun.

  • we need 10 planet in fresno CA

  • Isn't George an aussie? WTF is Eddie on about mentioning him as Brazillian?

  • @jamiegward1984 nah he meant he's done bjj but now george is training with eddie in la

  • Fuck the gi!

  • Marijuana improves my breathing for JiuJitsu I have found. A calm focused- ness.

No Gi is like "everyday people" JiuJitsu. Eddie Bravo is the man. Much respect.

  • Eddie is a stoner ass muthafucka but he's absolutely right about everything! Two totally different games, a lot of the more advanced bjj and judo/jujitsu ground sweeps rely on the gi, and sleeves which aren't a part of every gi system. Of course so much crosses over, and cross training is important if you want to be a more complete martial artist, but he's totally right, don't hate ... just smoke weed and have fun!

  • @mattreedkilla Haha yeah for sure. At least JiuJitsu is becoming more popular either way. And the Abu Dahbai no gi comp is awesome.

  • Bravo has got some cool tricks but the important part of the gi is just how technical it makes you. Also the gi forces you to develop a lot of balance due to all the leverage someone has against you when the gi is put on. Both should be learned gi and no gi and there's nothing wrong with what Bravo is doing. I also like how he's keeping the integrity of jiu-jitsu by setting such hi standards for his black belts.

  • I respect Eddie a shit load. I think he is an innovator and an amazingly skilled grappler. With that being said...HE REALLY IS STARTING TO LOVE HIMSELF A LITTLE TOO MUCH!! "I hope one day Gracie Bara and Alliance schools will have seperate 10th planet classes!"

I love alot of what this guy has contributed to my personal grappling arsenal (electric chair sub, electric chair sweep, gangsta lean, etc.) But when he said that now I'm even beginning to wonder if the drugs are getting the best of him

  • @irepdaronx

to eddie, 'no-gi' and '10th planet' are synonymous i think. he probably just means no-gi classes that teach some of his innovations.

idk, im pretty passive on these subjects anyways. i dont think too far into the 'arrogance' factor and just respect them for what they have accomplished

  • @TruNikkaz

I def feel you on respecting him for what hes accomplished but i dunno if what your saying he meant is actually what he meant. Most legit bjj schools already incorporate a little bit of the stuff hes come up with into their no gi programs even if they dont like him. Most people at my gym actually think Bravo is a dick for his openly using drugs (i could care less i've done my fair share in my time.) Im actually from one of the bigger schools in the usa and he is unanmously hated.

  • @irepdaronx

my teacher seems neutral. he likes eddie and respects him, but he doesn't try many of his techniques, my teacher is kind a guy that is just super super solid with his basics, and knows some of the neater no-gi transitions made popular by guys like marc laimon and jeff glover.

but i think it's good that he is open about his marijuana use. it shows you that the typical "pot heads can't accomplish great things in sports" is bs, while also saying that it can help with m.a. and music.

  • Finally someone who doesn't hand out black belts to anybody. Too many people have black belts in various martial arts and it means nothing.

  • damn I wish I could train at 10th planet SO bad

  • English are top qaulity not loads of low quantaty. (USA).......

  • Eddie is pacing back and forth, what a character. Science love the guy.

  • Fuck ya Bravo's awsome.

  • we need a 10th planet in chernobyl

  • who is the first black belt?

  • @zakquack Denny Prokopos

  • @rangedat i know i was just trolling trying to put the point accross that it should be in the description.

  • Damn, this is humbling stuff. Keep it up Eddie!

  • i cant understand why all this with trying to prove whats better gi or no gi.thats stupid, none of the system is better.a fighter can be better than another fighter but a system better than another thats stupid.gracie wanted to show how jiu jitsu is superior than other sports and so one.we should respect each martial art and each form of practicing and only challanged ,show your skills superiority not superior style.bravo eddie bravo do your thing let others talk,we see the facts.respect

  • An instructor that promotes Cannabis use.

not to long ago i was made to feel alienated for my choice to use cannabis with in the martial arts world.

    Time Are Changing,

Now if we can get rid of the Social Elites, or know them off their thrown this would could be more loving.

  • in Brazil eddie NEVER, could graduate someone, but is USA...

american jiu jitsu hahahaha, great joke!

  • @grayfox555

yeah i know! i mean, in brazil, its not like he could beat anyone owait

    he beat a gracie

  • @grayfox555 Didn't he beat royler? He's a gracie I think. And now royler is ducking eddie again?

  • "Party, drink, smoke weed,....." ...quite the role model.

  • @Eastbay007 You roll with him then brother!

  • 10th planet system is like the jeet kun do of ground fighting! Finland needs 10th planet jujutsu!

  • @MursuTheMan I agree with you.

  • We need a 10th Planet in London!

  • @jh09c2m Sorry London is out of the 10th-Planet system. =)

  • @jh09c2m

English are pathetic so there is no point.

  • @jh09c2m There's much better gyms in London than 10th planet...Roger Gracie, London Shootfighters, Carlson Gracie....

  • Get 10th Planet together in St. Louis. We need you!

  • It's funny because the best bjj school in my state is ALL no gi. At first I was a little turned off by this because most all no gi schools are run by the douche bags who pretend to be black belts. But when Rigan Machado does a seminar and says how proud he is of his second degree black belt you just smile and train.

  • @sophiemaggie1 machado's a fucking badass.

  • does anybody know if the rubber guard works with the gi on ?

  • @y2taner why wouldnt it

  • @wwechamp7 cause i can usally do it with no gi but this past week i wasnt able to do it when i was training with a guy who had the gi on

  • DON't give up eddie your like bruce lee who break the traditional rules. !!! someday people will know i really wanna learn from you but i stay so far away !

  • no-gi is is the best way to train jiu jitsu for mma....why would you train with a gi when your not competing with a gi?

  • Eddie I love your network in everything. I saw you on the rogan pod cast. Access the knowledge with LSA morning glory seeds and cold water all natural. If you meditate on it you have the key that google spirit world. its a shaman in central mexico thing and kahuna thing in hawaii. I hope this massage finds you.

  • its time to traditional Bjj n no-gi to get together...do the funky chicken dance ..kiss and make out..i mean look at the Korean Zombie ...he uses the Twister ,1 sec and garcia tapped..maybe next time we may see the Weedster or sumtin..its evolution ..

  • I took some traditional JJ when i was younger and one of my instructors taught a variation of the "rubber guard" he was really old guy though prolly won't be able to see the evolution that eddie brought to the game.

  • I think the guy is good with jiu-jitsu but would never get this type of recognition if he did not ride the fame wave after winning agains royler.

  • @Rhypes99 Pffffff

  • Eddie has a vision

  • My favorite part was when Eddie Bravo said that practitioners of different styles should put aside their differences and build the sport up as a whole for everyone while wearing a DEPECHE MODE, MUSIC FOR THE MASSES shirt.

    Subliminal and affective.

    Points awarded.

  • Eddie you are undoubtedly a great practitioner of the sport. The reason why most people are mad is because you are claiming that you created a separate martial art. You mentioned judo and wrestling being different, that is true, hence they will not compete with each other under the same rules. Though your students are still competing in no-gi 'BJJ' competitions. 10th planet is the name of your school but not different to brazilian jiu jitsu as you have the same objective and concepts,

  • i trained with vinny at caesar gracie academy in the bay when he was an instructor.couple yrs i came back to that school he was with team quest in so cal,now all they train at the academy is strictly gi. it is mandatory.i was so pissed after i already signed 1yr contract to realize i would have to train with gi.no exception

  • If it works.. It works. Who cares. I Practiced jap jiu jitsu and then BJJ and its nothing to get worked up about.

  • This pedro from bjpenn.com?

  • Awesome :D

  • i am soooooooooooo motherfuckin high right now!!!!!!!!!!! O.G. Kush hell yeah!

  • Draculino said in an interview, no one in Brazil know who the fuck Eddie is lol. Also that eddie is not doing anything that has not been done before.

  • Put Eddie on the mat with Renner gracie,or Ryron and lets see what happens ????

    Gracie vs 10th Planet !!

  • @7thvenom 2003 bravo v royler, bravo won via triangle at the adu dhabi

  • @WesSideCali YEAH THAT WAS SOME NICE SHIT BRO !!! I JUST WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM VS

ONE OF THE GRACIE BOYS THAT DO ALL THE VIDEOS !!

  • I gotta say I appreciate the shit out of Eddie Bravo for what he's done for jiu jitsu. I train Gracie because they've been rolling for fucking for ever. The things they teach have been practiced and put through the fire for generations so you know can rely on them. But what Eddie's doing has the same intention on the other end of the spectrum. He's made jiu jitsu cutting edge and his art is going to continue to breathe vitality into jiu jitsu with new principles and weed out what's bad. lol weed

  • Bruce Lee had the same issues from the establishment when he merged multiple disciplines. Eddie is trying to push along the evolution of the sport. How anybody can not see this as a good thing is beyond me. Do your thing Eddie.

  • The NO-GI vs GI warfare needs to end. We need to come together as brothers and love each other and submit each other.

  • @JohnnyBoyCali Hahahahaha so true.

  • @JohnnyBoyCali i Absolutely agree, us Jujitsu brothers need to look out for each other instead of Fighting and arguing.

  • @JohnnyBoyCali There's no war if you only do No Gi and don't learn any self defense then you don't do Jiu-Jitsu it's that simple. 10th Planet is lacking "Jiu-Jitsu" take away the Gi, the Self Defense, and just promote No Gi competition. It's all fine and I don't hate on Eddie but look at the substance it's not Jiu-Jitsu.

  • I live in iceland and im doing BJJ and i really wanna learn 10th planet jiu jitsu

  • Seems like a nice guy and just wants people to get along. Very Cool. But when he says he gives credit for everything what about naming the moves like "Jiu Claw" and "Chill Dog"?

  • I TRAINED WITH EDDIE BRAVO BEFORE LIKE OTHER PEOPLE SAID HES DOWN TO EARTH REALLY A NICE GUY AND TO ALL THEM HATERS OUT THERE PISS OFF AND HES VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT JIU JITSU AND HIM SMOKING WEED THATS A PLUS IN MY DICTIONARY

  • I just want to say that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as we all know would not be what it is today without Japanese Jiu Jitsu. That being said all martial arts have roots from elsewhere, why cant everyone just appreciate each other when it is obvious that Eddie Bravo has love for BJJ and is merely trying to implement another facet of the game and do what is good for the sport. Also it is soooo obvious that he is a great guy

  • LOL smoke weed

  • Eddie Bravo looks a lot like Mark Dacascos

  • you need no-gi for the beach, and gi for the street :)

  • Isn't bjj stolen from jjj :)

  • @stevekdt1

    total bull shit.

i hate how people call bjj, 10jj says i do jiu jitsu

if sambo or jiu jitsu was called bjj or 10th planet jj everyone would freak out.

thats why people don't like most bjj 10th planet jj

  • It's funny that traditional BJJ people get upset with the "no-gi" thing, like the Americans have stolen something from them. JiuJitsu...doesn't sound very Brazilian to me.

  • @WesSideCali No shit right? If anything, Japan should be pissed. lmao

  • @WesSideCali Brazilian isn't a language dude, they speak Portuguese.

  • @TurdFurginson Yes i am very aware, but there is a Brazilian dialect of the language, and Brazilian culture. And JiuJitsu did not come from it.

My point was that for a Brazilian to accuse an American of stealing JJ is silly, considering it originates in Japan.

  • @WesSideCali

its a branch off of judo and ju jutsu

  • @WesSideCali there are more than one type of jiu jitsu in the world. brazillian is just the most popular because of royce gracie and his family.

  • @byrnes2010 agreed but most ppl think royce was the best of the family when really he was 1 of the worst rickson is and was the best

  • @WesSideCali the americans? the the fuck are you speaking for or against again? you dip shart

  • @industrialhemprocks Im saying its silly for a bjj guy to claim that the americans are stealing and changing jiujitsu, considering it was a japanese martial art that the brazilians took and changed.

    "you dip shart"

really? it doesn't even make since why you would be name calling, did i hurt your feelings in some way?

  • @WesSideCali well i dont think im silly and i agree witht he bjj guy the americans

are trying to steal it but youknow what they cant you know why there will always

be true practitioners not just some asshole treating practitioners like he knows how to fight to dana white is a prick

  • @WesSideCali that makes zero sense

you didnt even say that americans were complaining

you said that brazilians were and wat the fuck does being american have to do with that statement at all?

  • @WesSideCali no one has problems with no gi, they have a problem with 10th planet system and with good reason.

  • @Arcturistheballer what reasons?

  • @WesSideCali cause mad gracie bara motherfuckers all use that same 10th planet shit just without the dumb names, They claim to have made shit up that already existed, and they have a free massive advertiser in joe rogan "oh hes got him in mission control right now"... yeah whatever...

  • @Arcturistheballer Names of moves tend to change throughout regions(ie kimora/key lock). As far as "mission control" goes, yes it is a half done omoplata, but it seems that eddie was the one to see that a half done omoplata can be used effectively as a defence.

Also, i have seen many interviews with eddie bravo, and he seems to give credit where credit is due. He will say that the rubber gaurd came from the omoplata, and that the "twister" came from wrestling(known as the guillotine).

  • @WesSideCali I train wrestling and bjj, your post made me laugh.

  • @WesSideCali I don't think traditional BJJ people think Americans stole jiu-jitsu...Traditional BJJ guys have always advocated training gi and no gi training. What traditional BJJ guys are upset about is Eddie Bravo completely bagging the gi as detrimental when in fact (look at all the world no-gi champions), the gi is an invaluable developmental tool. Also, Eddie Bravo likes to claim he invented certain techniques when in fact the techniques have always been around.

  • @WesSideCali Hey, I like 10th planet stuff, and I think some of what Eddie Bravo is saying makes sense. But, from personal experience and looking at the facts, the gi is an excellent, amazing tool that everyone should use for development. If at like the black belt level you wanna focus purely on no-gi because you feel that helps your game, GO FOR IT! But don't rob people of the gi...

  • @MLee1692 The gi is an amazing tool, and can easily translate to real world situations if you are wearing a jacket, while no-gi is better suited for the sport of mma.

And i am pretty sure that eddie bravo still trains with a gi, i've seen some videos here on youtube(that i dont think are that old) of him rolling with a gi.

  • @WesSideCali It's not just about using the gi as a hypothetical jacket, it's about the defense and technique that the gi helps develop.

I would have to disagree that ONLY no-gi (as Bravo advocates) is good for MMA and submission grappling. Look at all the best of the best MMA fighters and submission grapplers and you will see that they train a lot of gi with some no-gi.

Eddie Bravo HATES the gi lol =P Those videos are probably quite old.

  • @MLee1692 That's the thing though, nobody ever makes valid points about how the gi helps, just "Oh well people who use it do okay so you need it"

The thing is, most schools require you to wear a gi.....so logically, most people who do jiu jitsu will wear a gi. However, there's no objective reasoning as to why gi helps your no-gi. You learn to defend and set up submissions by grabbing sleeves and collars, how does that help your no-gi?

  • @pearcemark2 Of course there are objective reasons. The gi simulates clothing/friction/how someone may grab your clothes in a street fight, which is good for self defense. When people hold on to their gis for defense, that keeps everything tight and in close. In response, the guy attacking has to think of more creative, technical ways than brute force to submit the guy. Also, submissions are often blocked by good gi usage, so you really have to think and be smart.

  • @MLee1692 I mean, look at Marcelo. He takes your back, you're finished 99% of the time, he's gonna sink that choke in.

But then you look at guys who have escaped his back control, and you get Diego Sanchez....a guy who, at the time, never trained in a gi before. And he was able to shake Marcelo off his back when everyone else was getting grapplefucked. Kind of revealing, eh?

  • @pearcemark2 My question is: If the gi is so detrimental how does Marcelo Garcia, who trains mostly gi, do so well in no-gi? I feel it's because Marcelo has developed technique, defense, and fundamentals through the gi, and explosiveness, clinching power, and offense from no-gi. As you know, jiu-jitsu is primarily based on technique and fundamentals, so a gi player, can do fairly well if not excel in no-gi. People should train both, gi and no-gi are both just so helpful and fun.

  • @MLee1692 Nothing you said objectively explains why it's necessary to train gi if you want to be good no-gi, or that training gi makes your no-gi better.

You say if you use gi then you have to be more creative with escapes, explain why no-gi Diego Sanchez was the only one amongst a legion of gi players who shook Marcelo off his back.

I believe learning gi grips is detrimental if your overall goal is MMA. Every second you spend grabbing a gi, you're training something that can't be used.

  • @pearcemark2 Uh...ok. I gave you objective self defense reasons. I told you the fact that Marcelo Garcia trains gi mostly. By your own logic, Marcelo Garcia should suck then...Or, you're saying that he could be better training more no gi, which probably isn't true. I told you specifically how someone completely controlling you forces you to be more creative. I told you how grabbing your gi makes you keep your arms tucked in safely. What's not objective?

  • @MLee1692 How does Marcelo training gi prove you need to train gi? Watch his MMA fight, he couldn't do shit to the guy when he got him down.

Big Nog is considered one of the best jiu jitsu guys ever in MMA, he threw the gi away like 12 years ago, he wanted to be a fighter and focused all no gi.

The fact is, gi makes your game looser. Watch ADCC 2003, watch all the high level black belts that can't keep back control. They just slip off, because they're used to the friction and grips.

  • @pearcemark2 He trains mostly gi so there must be some quality about the gi that translates into no-gi. By your logic, he wasted time, and he should suck. FALSE. It was his 1st MMA bout...

Big Nog was trained properly with the gi up to the black belt level before he decided that for him personally, he felt most comfortable no-gi. Nog is my hero, but look at who beat Fedor. Werdum and Big Foot, 2 gi BJJ players.

The fact is, almost all of the top BJJ players are gi black belts. PERIOD.

  • @MLee1692 Your logic makes no sense. Every person who gets cancer drinks water at some point, therefore water causes cancer. The grand majority of places that teach jiu jitsu train gi. Therefore, the grand majority of jiu jitsu players train gi. You're living in a fantasy world where there's magical cloth that wearing it rubs some of its magical aura off on you. To be super offensive no-gi you must develop your clinches AND master all clinches.

  • @pearcemark2 "Every second you train with the gi you are not training your clinch. You are training your yank and pull. Totally different. Totally different muscles, totally different base. If you want to get offensive in no-gi like Marcelo, then when are you working on your clinch? Unless you train no-gi grips with the gi on like some do, you are not working your clinch if you are grabbing the gi. " Eddie Bravo on the subject.

  • @pearcemark2 Yeah, I read the interview.

  • @pearcemark2 Then by your logic, you're saying that we shouldn't drink water lol...Better reasoning would be to say too much water causes water poisoning in the body. Fair enough, but we should still drink water because it's important and fundamental to survival and good health.

Like I said, luta livre and various forms of wrestling have been around for a looong time to claim dominance in submission grappling. But nope, BJJ guys are the best.

  • @pearcemark2 Renzo Gracie, granted he lost to Marcelo, escaped Marcelo's back control....It's weird how you no-gi guys like to use Marcelo as a point of leverage for no-gi, when he trains gi...That doesn't make any sense.

  • @MLee1692 Marcelo is already a no-gi god, but imagine if all he did his entire life was train no-gi. How ungodly unbelievable he would be.

Instead, he wasted a bunch of time training his yank and pull which is completely useless no-gi. All that extra time devoted to clinching and squeezing. Oof. Unbeatable.

  • @pearcemark2 You can't prove that. And look at other no gi styles. Wrestling, Luta Livre, etc. These styles have all had plenty of time to claim no-gi dominance. Yet time and time again, we see BJJ guys are the best on the ground. PERIOD.

  • @pearcemark2 Fuck, I need to study, this isn't over yet good sir. I will be ready for your next response =D

  • @WesSideCali it aint, started in japan ;)

  • @iso53145314 my point exactly

  • @WesSideCali haha brazilians took jiu jitsu from japan and changed it to call there own and now us americans are doing the same so i see nothing wrong with it (just agreeing with you)

  • @WesSideCali Lol no one is mad that anyone stole anything, it is the constant shit talking.

"alot of people high up in the BJJ community..." What people? Name them? No one. Cause no one gives a shit.

"Hopefully one day all Gracie affiliates, alliance affiliates, will have a 10th planet system" I LAUGHED. EDDIE YOUR STUPID ASS SCHOOL IS NOT ON THE SAME LEVEL OF THOSE SCHOOLS. THEY WOULD LOWER THEMSELVES TO ADD YOUR SYSTEM???????? YOU MONEY HUNGRY FUCK.

  • you should train with GI and without GI because on the streets (most of the time) everyone wears clothing that could be used against them. But knowing how to grapple without GI gives you more tools against an attacker. My nephew trains GI and no GI Judo & Russian Sambo and both are important to a grappler.

  • I can't say for sure exactly how long I have been doing submissions. The first BJJ school I went to was around 10 years ( 4 Season Carlson Sr school ) but I started training with guys from books around 15 years ago. Many of the people I started training with are bjj bbs now. I have never trained with a gi and mainly focused on MMA safe stuff. My game is very different. I am not claiming better or worse. I do think the art of submission is being hurt by the points system in grappling :)

  • Its true that gi and no gi are different, but i dont know about being VERY different.. everything you do gi, there is a no gi translation, everything you do no gi, there is a gi translation or adaptation.

  • @humanpotential7 I think everything and I mean everything that could be done in NO GI could be applied to a GI situation (under hooks, rubber guard, etc) BUT... NOT all GI could be applied to no GI (lepel chokes, certain takedowns where sleeves are used on a GI). That's why Russian Sambo players for decades practiced gi and no gi grappling, thus no gi pants exist in Sambo... only shorts, that's the product of evolution... same in BJJ

  • @humanpotential7 not everything translates. there are some moves specifically built for gi or no gi, such as every variety of gi choke. cant gi choke a guy in a rash guard or whose shirtless

  • @GriffinQ If the opponent is shirtless, say for instance a street fight out at the local neighborhood pool, I would resort to ground and pound from a dominant position.

  • @humanpotential7 which, again, has nothing to do with gi-necessary jiu jitsu. they dont directly translate over to one another.

  • Eddie Bravo is like the Happy Mondays of MMA. He likes his herbals and he'll steal from anyone and put it to good use.

  • eddie bravo's system works. look at george sotiropoulos game now.

  • thumbs up for

    "we're taking everyones best shit!"

  • I like what he's saying here. Gi jiu jitsu is just plain fun, challenging, and is definitely effective training from a self defense standpoint. Everything right about no-gi goes without saying, but throwing the gi away forever in BJJ would be like throwing the gi away forever in Judo, and I don't hear anyone saying that.

  • Dude Fuck The Guy Who Said Eddie Bravo Sucks! He Is The Shit!

  • Why do people not love this guy? He's down to earth, smart, passionate about jiu jitsu. These are the same people that hate covers of songs and remakes of movies. THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT!

  • @Jaredinator I totally agree. I feel it has to do with the majority of the BJJ community, let alone the upper ranks, being a little too attached to only the techniques that they discovered first. In chess its just understood to add the best new discovered strings/ techniques. Its only a matter of time before its accepted though and they stop thinking of Eddie as a "rival".

  • @Jaredinator You know what ur right. He does seem pretty cool! But a few years ago he had this video circulating on youtube that has since been removed for whatever reason. He had to be high as a kite judging from the topic of discussion...do you know which vid I'm talking about?

  • @Jaredinator He is as real as it gets....

  • @Jaredinator how could anyone dislike scar face? i mean seriously. "Don't fuck me, tony. Don't you ever try to fuck me"

  • Anyone know how that 1st BB's name is pronounced? I'd like to see if I can find some footage of his skill.

  • You can see immense passion behind Eddie's statements here. Wonderful to see so much emotion displayed as he talks about his life's work.

  • when will 10th pjj ever win a major tournament? answer is never. your 15 mins are up scrote.

  • @ketamineman your a homo real shit

  • Eddie Bravo fucking sucks, he beat Royler once, and then got his gaurd passed 8 times in the match after that. He hasnt done a god damn thing since then because beating Royler is his claim to fame and he knows if he started competeing again everyone would see how bad he fucking sucks

  • @brutmastaflash

maybe just Maybe after you're the first american to tap out royler gracie as a brown belt, you burn a lot of energy celebrating. he also used a lot of energy in that match especially in that triangle. so it's understandable that he didn't have the gas in the tank to keep leo from passing his guard.

  • Eddie is so real.

  • just a question: Why would Alliance and Barra who have produced ADCC campions bring in a system that has never won anything significant?

  • Well done Eddie Bravo. Nice to see people, to this day, still creating what martial arts is. There is so much more that can be done, but people percieve that there are limits.

  • Eddie wud definitely beat BJ n no gi grappling. Bj penn doesnt do all the steps tht r critical n the rubber guard(ex. he doesnt hug his knee, New York) Eddie has mastered it and BJ is still learning more about it.

  • "My teachers are my students" That's a very humble phrase, i like that. Keeps you grounded. I remember Florian saying something similar about his opponents.

  • he's wearing a depeche mode shirt lol

  • i was arguing with my friend i said that eddie bravo could beat bj penn in a no gi contest what do you guys think??

  • @mcdeftones93 im callin a draw

  • He's a cool dude.

  • is he dopped?

  • hes full of shit

  • @holywar911 how is he full of shit?

  • @realliferocky he talks like his a real fighter....his all bjj.....let him step in the ring. then will see how good he is

  • @holywar911 when does he talk like hes a fighter? i think someone just has alot of hate brewing towards someone more sucessful than them

  • @realliferocky lol...i dont care about what he got.....lol but two manny ppl on his dick. ppl call him one of the best fighter in the world...im just saying his not a real fighter

  • @holywar911

Eddie Bravo is not a MMA fighter, but that does not mean he can not develop techniques that real fighters can use. He is contributing to the sport of both Jiu Jitsu and MMA. Top level fighter go to 10th planet to learn from Eddie. He is a coach first and foremost, his life is dedicated to developing and refining his own unique style of Jits. The best part about the whole thing is that he gives credit to everyone and lets others help contribute to his system.

  • @rodigga1981 ok that your saying sounds ok....but when ppl call him the best fighter in the world. i dont think so

  • self defence wise, if you can do anything without a gi you are most likely able to do any of your sweeps, position grappling, take downs or submissions in real life.

im not saying train without the gi (i personally think the gi looks really cool and gives the training a "martial art" feel) but knowing how to do things without the gi is important for self defence in my opinion

  • Bruce Lee would be proud of Eddie :)
