I'm sorry to hear of your goldfish's untimely demise (goldfish can live 15 years if well cared for.) Just so you know, BiOrbs are not a healthy environment for any fish, especially goldfish, which create more waste than most. The problem is not just the tiny size but also the round shape which leaves very little water surface area for aeration. The air pump makes a BiOrb a better home than a fishbowl, but not by much. I'm not trying to get on your case, just help out you and your fish. :)
Thanks I appreciate the advice, and can see how a Biorb may not be so great for keeping fish, I have much smaller fish in it now, dwarf platies and neon tetras which should cope better I hope.
I also have two goldfish in a standard tank which seem to be doing well, one is about 4 years old now I think, they may be dirty fish but I do like them, and young children and babies seem to find them fascinating.
is this an unheated tank? its good to see people are starting to wise up to the fact that white clouds can be kept in cool or even cold unheated water (as they come from very cold streams in china) nice set up, I have a biorb with two goldfish and some whiteclouds, havent cleaned the filter yet, as Ive only had it a month, but the fish do make lots of mess, I also have a ramshorn snail, but it seems to be eating all my plants.
It was unheated, but I have since moved the white clouds to a standard unheated tank with more fish in, I found the Biorbs LED light didnt do them justice, a flourescent tube really shows up the colours better.
I have now put a heater in my Biorb so that I can have more colourful fish in it, unfortunately I'm not doing too well with cardinal tetras, I have lost five so far.
Shows how well the filter works to suck in all that poo :) it is amazing how much goldfish poo.
Did you keep and reuse any of your tank water? You should never really have to empty your tank completely if you change the filter every month or two and do a 15% water change.
The key thing is to keep some of the tank water and NEVER wash the ceramic media.
I have 2 oranda 1 is a black one the others a redcap i called them flame and neon :P

nice tank mate! but you see white clouds need 5+ tank mates so i suggest you buy 3 more... all the best....sprouty!

Yup I have 7 whiteclouds now, 3 golden ones and 4 normal ones.
The goldfish didn't make it long enough to get too big, he was about 2 years old though.

your goldfish will need a bigger tank as it grows. :]

Whiteclouds are best if kept in group of 6.

Yep, I didn't change the water or wash the ceramic media, hoefully we got all the snails, I think I will stick to artificial plants from now on.

nice tank. Make sure you change the filter, as these fish do like to poo a lot, and you would want him to be swimming in his own poo.
The good think about the biOrb is it does a very good job of keeping the tank nice and clean, but still worth changing the filter regularly

Yup, recently cleaned the entire tank, some how snails got in, and the amount of poo and gunk around the filter and under the gravel was gross.
The BioOb is a great tank but those filters do go brown quickly.
