  • How come NOONE knows the translations? I can make out some words, but would like to know what they mean in the Sauk Fox dialects.... some words we use (ojibwe/chippewa) but vary from one area to another.

  • We Meskwakis do not make our sacred songs public. This is a peyote song, however, and they can be heard outside their ceremonies. Peyote is an adopted religion. I do like the words and I believe in prayer, so it is good to hear.

  • where can one see the houses made of cattails?

  • after listening again..the words go....ke ma ma do me na be na..in the first word...instead of the ki....it changes the time frame of the praying..whereas when they say....ki ma ma do me na be na...its like they are going to pray to him..but when they say....ke ma ma do me na be na....its a now syllable..where hes sayin ...we are praying now to you.....sorry bout the...first translation...had to make it right.......

  • The words to this mean....ki ma ma do me na be na( we pray to you) ke chi ma ne do(great spirit).........all at once...WE PRAY TO YOU GREAT SPIRIT...whoever is singing this song has a grasp of Meskwaki, he forms his words perfectly.....na ha do wa.....oo ya i gwa ni

  • Brian Stoner does justice to this song and all the other songs he sings. Could be a Sauk, Cree, Meskwaki. song. Just has a different tune is all. Either way . Its a good song....

  • Its an all around good peyote song. Men-we-kin !!!!

  • in time we will all hear my great grandfather Carl Butler sing. But we are lost right now. Joey Rave and myself.

  • exactly what is "Sac and Fox" supposed to mean? Sorry, I'm a bit new to the art of Peyote songs

  • The Sac call themselves Thakiwaki, which means "people coming forth from the water."

  • @Crystalcarrie I like that, I'm ojibwe, also a algonqain speaking indians, anishinabe is what we say, its our only word for human beings, but they say native. My uncle donny, fluint in ojibwe, and he translated ojibwe with help of peyotey and he said that the word leaf, and water is in the word anishinabe, and also man, that a leaf comes from the mother earth, and is grown through water, So ndn's did kno biology, we all come from motherearth, and grow with water.

  • @soxmonki Greetings from Marshalltown, IA...I work at the Meskwaki casino close to Tama. I am not Meskwaki myself, but have met many wonderful people who are Meskwaki...and I am fascinated by your history, culture, etc. So when I saw the title of this video, I had to take a listen. :-) And it's very beautiful. I love the close harmonies. :-)

  • @druidkat7 Yep it is beautiful - I listen to this when I need to get grounded - and Meskwaki gives you insight into 1/3 of the 3 nations that were once one (as our elders pass down) - that covered Iowa, Illinois, into Michigan, Wisconsin and into CN. The other 2 (sadly) were removed but are still in touch with us (Sac and Kickapoo).

  • i so enjoy this song....

it has so much feeling for me

i came thru alot and this song reminds me

of the strength i have within

and the positive energy i have

  • Sounds a little Ojibwe but thier the same Algonquin indians. I'm ojibwe and it sounds like ojibwe.

  • The Sac and Fox are still a great tribe just like the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma. You may be surprised that we still have those houses made out of cattails
