This song is so smooth! I discovered this on Fisk's radio station in '92 I think. But, it doesn't really matter when I found it, cuz I have been in love with it ever since. This is truly a wonderful song:)
I think all this types of ARTIST of USA don't come on the world just for to pleasure to come, they come 'cause they have,on my opinion,a special pourpose inside, something that make connecting peoples with the Heart of Supreme Celestial Energy or Spirit: God!
This is a master piece ! I requested this track on Sky fm smooth jazz. The dj Jimmy king will play it this weekend ! CD 101.9,,some Rich has to bring this station back to NYC !
The "Spellbound" album was my introduction to Joe Sample's music. The entire album is so cool. This song here was a very pleasant surprise. Thanks for posting.
@nillawafers96 This is wonderful. I agree, nice time of my life. God bless you. Wow, Michael Franks looks so good in that picture. God bless Joe Sample and Michael Franks.
Fantastic. Takes me back to 1990 in Ann Arbor, listening to 107.1 WAMX on Sunday mornings. David Sanborn had a radio show called the Jazz Show and he played this song. Great memories and great music.
@bobufer: Wow, this totally takes me back to Ann Arbor too, summer of 1990. Great song! I was trying to remember the station that used to play it. I thought it was WJZZ, but there was also a station in Ypsilanti, I think. Anyhow, great memories!

@Tr1umph4ntSubtly2k12 Oh yes, I miss CD101.9 NYC SO MUCH!!! That station single handedly took me through my late nights studying in college (back when we actually went to college to learn and not to party&shack up ALL the time lol!)....and my early days getting my career started. *sigh* Good memories!
@timewarpedstudios Oh my! I used to listen to that when I visited my sister in Fort Worth. Our station here in KC used to be 98.9 The Wave. It was awesome. Good music and they used to have these little 20 second random comedy vignettes.
im a young man and i was raised on soul music and jazz im 1 year older than this song and love it i never get sick of it this real music skip all that hip hop if people listened to this the world would be a better place
I must say that your imagination is as vivid as my own dear one... We are def. kindred spirits. We all find ourselves at times searching for an adequate expression of those things which we love and feel. Watching this video has touched that part of my soul... The musical geniuses of Sample and Franks', the collaboration of synthesizers, background vocals(listen closely),and strings, in concert with the pics used only magnify the ambiance created by the Ocean, the Sky, and even Space itself...
I would love to have Tommy LiPuma to produce, Michael Franks compose some more gems, Joe Sample back on Keys, Larry Carlton on guitar, Wilton Felder on Bass, David Sanborn on sax, Steve Gadd substitute for the late John Gurien, hmmm, can't replace Michael Brecker. Such a monumental album that turned mine and so may others heads back in 1977. What do you think?
smooth jazz stations did play it...back in the early 90's, it is the best song on the cd, but there all great!! i started listing to joe back in the late 70's. He is awesome!!!
my GOD this song is INCREDIBLE!!!...oh my fucking GOD!!!...wow wow wow....I would love to play this in my car while driving in the city....a moonlit night....oh man.....wow....what cities are those featured in the vid here? I thought I knew most skylines...
I couldn't agree more. It's been one of my favorite songs since it came out. When you combine Joe Sample with Michael Franks along with timeless lyrics this is what you get. It will still sound great 100 years from now.
@plumeria66 Singapore @ 2:36?... I figured out Perth Australia is @ 3:59 you can see the name of the city on the pic... yea NYC and Paris are recognizable...but 1:55, 2:15, 2:563:093:42 and 4:49 I have no idea what cities those are...I'm gonna study my "world skylines"
Beautiful time for me....1990.....Spellbound.......In love with my future wife .......1st child on the way........1st apartment........WOW...Thanks for the post...Haven't heard this song in 18 years ! Thanks again.......Fond memories!!!

1990- My boss at the flower shop I worked for in the "valley" in southern California was a huge jazz fan .
I remember he had an amazing sound system in his car and he would absolutely crank up Joe Sample's "Spellbound" CD...especially when this song played.
I have to say that I have truly loved this incredibly beautiful song since then!
It still is one of my favorites.
