I still feel the father was hoping something more terrible had happened to his daughter, confirming what he reads in the Daily Mail/Express (judging from the size of the paper in the mime) and allowing him to wallow in indignant victimhood. I believe that the father getting off to a scenario in which his daughter was possibly being raped is far more offensive than the father wishing something more terrible had happened. Ricky Gervais has a more subtle humor than a lot of comedians. I may be woefully wrong however, this is just how I interpreted it.

Ricky Gervais is completely overrated. He relies on shocking jokes that people wouldn't dare touch. I get it (the dad should be relieved that nothing happened todaughter, not disappointed that she didn't get molested), I'm not offended, but plain and simple it's not really funny.
