all you people accusing him of being gratuitous... i don't see him slowing down for anything or diving for anything he shouldn't. and you know who clap catches a layout? someone who wants to catch it. i've done it, it's not so gratuitous. please people, don't hate him cuz you ain't him.
just because one lays out all the time doesnt mean one should win the callahan award. he has a goofy high release backhand. his opponents always gain separation from him and he makes it up with a sick layout. yeah, i admit it, they're sick, but coming down with the disc in a jump ball doesnt put you on a level of greatness with the callahan award winners. work on low release hucks or defensive positioning.
i agree that they are nice catches, but to tell you the truth, those catches happen all the time in high level club. my problem is that his defensive positioning is weak enough that people gain separation from him and he makes it up with a nasty layout D. amazing plays to watch, but it shows he uses his athleticism so much he has not actually learned sound fundamentals, which i consider very important in a top level player.
i agree with both sides of the arguement, but i just thought id say that the high release backhand might not be just his style. the high release is a different throw so you can get it over a defenders hands. plus it gives less of a floating throw. i just wanted to clear it up. i love the timing for the base to start up at the start.
I agree completely with Dreamofspira, the callahan award winner is supposed to establish himself as a team player and all that is shown in this video is gratuitous bids and a ton of separation from him on defense. The plays are very entertaining to watch but unfortunately this is just not high level ultimate that is needed to be even considered for the callahan award.
Those were nice highlights - but there has to be a limit to slow-motion effects. Not everything deserved to be focused on for those extra seconds. And yes, he does seem a bit gratuitous. His positioning is excellent, but with his length, he doesn't need to lay out nearly as much as this video showed.
kid is solid. but who is he playing against? hes a great ultimate player, but the callahan winner has to embody those characteristics at the highest level. hes no dylan tunnel.
im just using him as an example- he finished 3rd in the callahan voting last year. i dont have any on video. shelton is sick, but i dont know if i can vote for someone who doesnt play like this at the national level.
It seems that the Callahan winner should be someone who can elevate their team to elite status. Considering I've never heard of Salisbury talked in any national consideration at all, I'm not ready to vote for this kid.
Salisbury went to Nats in '99 and '00. First 15 seed to win a game at Nats. Finished 5th in the country in '00. Women considered one of the best in 2002 when they lost two games all season, both Sunday at regions. Five alums played at Club Nats in 2007, including Danny Clark, one of the best club players in the country. TRUE these facts are old and have nothing to do with the current team or Tim Shelton, but let's hold off on the whole never heard of Salisbury in national talk stuff.
have you been on the field with this guy? No. Those plays come out of nowhere, trust me. He might be "making easy plays look hard" but the bottom line is he's "making plays" and thats what the Callahan is all about.
yea I agree. Could just be that you didn't catch the full aspect of his game on tape, but why show some gratutitus plays. If you want to see the level of play that should be caught on tape watch UCF dogs of war 2007 tapes and watch for #9 Cameron Amey, that kids raw.

hey man..
i just dont know anything about the callhan award...but he isnt just laying out for a disc...he catches disc which are nearly impossible to catch.
and think...if he isnt laying out for the discs the whole team need to play a defense.
maybe his backhand is a but strange but i think hes a great player

i would not agree with that...
you cant say anything about his defense positioning if you havent seen a whole match.
and pls dont tell me you can play such a good defense that the player u got never get a disc.
