Hey everyone. I've received a lot of hate for this review because some people think that I'm just being too harsh on the show and that I should get a sense of humour. If you're one of those people, did you know that David Walliams (Actor and Writer of the Show) said that Series 1 wasn't very good. Even one of the creators agrees with me. Think about that before you give me a hate comment.
To be fair, I think you missed the aim of the Bangkok joke. I think it was making fun of the fact that it is a known haven of prostitution, not the name of the town itself.
Glad I wasn't the only one who hated it, because god knows why a Dutch broadcaster even bothered to buy this programme because I caught it on tv by accident once, and found it unwatchable. I was bored to tears.
I need some semblance of human intelligence in my comedy, not this kind of thrash.

I'm speaking as an American, so maybe I'm not qualified to really make an assessment of this, but... what's the appeal of these guys? All I've seen them do is make fun of minorities and poor people. I mean, Asian mail order brides? Seriously? And the classism is awful. Girls like Vicki Pollard act like that because they're poor and they don't really know any better. The only thing I really enjoyed about Little Britain was the Tom Baker narration. I won't lie, that was hysterical.

I watched the first ten minutes of this show and then switched it off. It was a horrible show. Frankly, your reactions are 100% funnier than anything in Come Fly With Me.
I watched the show. Because i thought i give it a shot. I jumped out the window and broke my leg. I promptly went back upstairs to jump again and again five more times until my leg was too broken to move it. I then got an amublance to take me away from my house.
Lesson Learned: NEVER lose the remote on the pilot episode.

. I think the commentator is right to point out some of their failings, mostly justified in what he refers to as “not funny”. I am not sure if being funny is the sole criteria here. Moreover, I am not sure it isn’t funny. I was LOL especially with the Martin Clunes gig. I do agree with him that there could have been more attention paid to shortening and fine tuning the sketches. Still this is quite a brilliant piece as the history of humor/theater will prove (I think…)
'Come Fly with Me' offers a lot to think about as the lively discussion here suggests. Race, Gender, the dynamics of The dynamics of bureaucracy… The airport is a really interesting spot to explore a lot of issues.
dude its a mockumentary...the show is supposed to go on like a normal documentary and then make politically incorrect jokes where normal documentaries dont. there is no build up to the jokes, its just how mockumentary comedy works; a normal day at an airport and without reason a joke is told...thats what makes it so funny. watch chris lilley's work and youll understand where im coming from.
Apparently you haven't viewed an American "sitcom". Talk about shit! Laughing audience prompts are inserted to let you know something said or done was funny. I think some Americans watch these just to "zone out". I admire British comedy...and this from an American.

@livi334 I did to give it a fair chance. You seen Source Code? That movie is brilliant until the end completely makes everything worthless. It can work the other way around. A good ending or a good final few sketches could have made this a good episode.

I actually enjoyed the show, sure, it's borderline racist, cringe worthy at times, but, taken with a pinch of salt, it's entertaining. That said, this review was considerably funnier, and, truth be told, more intelligent!!!!

The joke was not the word "Bangkok". It was a commentary on how most Britons travelling to Bangkok are probably going there to sleep with prostitutes. Bangkok is the capital of Thailand, not a made-up place with a funny name, like Scunthorpe.
@Slipstreamer I see where you're coming from, but i think that saying this show has any form of "commentary" is giving the writers waaaay too much credit.

I think that if Matt and Dave were going for commentary then they would have probably used Amsterdam. That would have gotten a laugh out of me as opposed to a joke that's been done by nearly everyone who has heard of Bangkok.
Most people love it and you're saying its rubbish. You can't be a proper reviewer. Over 8 million people tuned in to each episode and if you think it's racist and rude, you haven't seen little britian. Some people just don't see the funny side in life.

And your numbers are wrong. The 1st episode got 12 mil, but after that the viewership dropped every week until just over 4 mil tuned in by series end. I have seen Little Britain and that wasn't racist and even if it was your statement makes no sense. (You're saying that because Little Britian was racist, it's ok here)
I was biased the minute you praised Sherlock xD I thought, this bloke's obviously right about that, at least. And I pretty much agree with you when it comes to Come Fly With Me. Some of the characters just left me feeling guilty for having watched it.

This is not racist. Believe me, i've been offended many a time but I don't fucking report the show because I take it in good spirit and I understand other people find it funny and that i'll laugh at other things. It's called a joke and taking it in good spirit and some people don't have this.
@Mubble The thing is, though, the spoof 'mockumentary' has now become worn-out. The spoofs are now in danger of spoofing other spoofs instead of the original target of the spoof, be it a documentary, drama, whatever. Perhaps paying homage to older comedies (ie. 'The One Ronnie', which I thought was fairly good) is what this pair are best at, rather than trying to be original. Spoofs aren't original any more and camp is not funny in itself.
There are clearly two camps (no pun intended) - those who DO and those who DON'T find this show funny. I don't. However, I DID find 'The One Ronnie' somewhat amusing. Walliams and Lucas were producers on that show - I'm not sure if that means 'writers'. However, not only were they reworking an established format, but the 'Songs of Praise' sketch was reminiscent of an old 'Not The Nine O'Clock News' skit. Will Matt and David be as loved 30 years from now as The Two Ronnies, or Morecambe & Wise?
@napman33 Actually, there are alot of comments to this video from people who hated this show. Nearly every professional UK TV Critic hated the show, and alot of the viewers complained about the racist aspects of the show. Also, after the first episode on Christmas, the viewing numbers dropped by a sizable amount.
@Tom21a It is a sketch show. A sketch is a small scene (about 2 minutes long at the most) with a variety of characters one after the other. In this case, the sketches are set in an airport.
@MrTARDISreviews But when you moan about the same people being repeated its because its based on those programs like airline...if you have ever watched one of them then you would understand the humour and genius behind it!
@Tom21a Say what? None of my complaints against the show were because they were the same people. And even if it were, how would that format be genius? Little Britain (A sketch show done right, at least for its first 2 seasons) was quick, to the point, genuinly funny and witty with good performances. The same really can't be said here.

@MrTARDISreviews Oh I dont know I only watched the Pilot. I just ment that a pilote is supposed to be one of the best of a series in order to hook the audience to the show. However this one felt as thought this show ran for say 5 years and someone took all the bad sketches and compiled them together. In other words it was a total Pilot FAIL!
@taabuu2342 You're right. The Pilot wasn't funny. Neither were any of the cabin crew, ground staff or baggage handlers. The delays at the Heathrow due to the snow were funnier!

It had the most views for a comedy show in 2010, People obviously like the show me being one of them. At the end of the day it was written for people who have a different sence of humour than yours. Lets be honest theres fuck all good TV on nowadays.

Blackadder, Frasier, Friends and many more. This wasn't funny. It was boring, slow and almost painful. But here's what i don't get. It had the most views for a comedy show? Probably. But does that immediately make it good? Hell no! Besides, just because alot of people watched it, doesn't mean alot of people liked it.
Walliams hosted a show last week about awful moments in television, even taking a swipe at Dr Who. Oddly, the grotesque 'Little Britain' and the appallingly unfunny 'Come Fly With Me' were not featured. One day, someone else may host a similar programme and this deficiency will be corrected.
I agree that they have lost the plot, they haven't been able to pull out anything decent since little britain abroad, like Little Britain USA, that just tries to hard to be funny and its not its the worst piece of crap ever, the first three series of Little Britain were gold, ok it got a little shaky in the 3rd series, but still better than what they have been serving up since, ok in USA, lou and andy are the only characters that make it watchable, but no the boys have lost the plot i think

If there is hardly anything good about the episode, then i can't talk about it. That's the point of a review. If you like it, fair enough. But i really really didn't like it.
They're not funny. Neither are Mitchell and Webb. This is the BBC's so-called precision-engineered comedy - comedy that ISN'T funny. No wonder 35-year old Morecambe and Wise Christmas shows are (still) so popular.

the bit with the security guard molesting the male passengers is just creepy. Can't believe they got away with it. I'm starting to think the problem these days with comedy is that there's no restrictions or decency standards. I don't just say that as a prude, I think back when there was such rules it gave the comedy both humility and something to reign the excesses in, whilst also something to rail against- art through adversity if you will. Like many other poor souls in the U.K I had to endure watching this tripe with my family on Christmas day, after the pretty spellbinding Doctor Who episode (we'd Sky + it), and had to continue watching scene after scene because some members of my family...liked it. (????) And it felt more like 30 days rather than 30 minutes.

I see you're point entirely but it's important to have a healthy balanced diet so a littloe bit of crap tv does no harm, I myself enjoy viewings of The Most Annoying People 20?? and after several glasses of wine when you're feeling fairly despondent for eating too much cheese it's okay, especially when you've seen the real life equivalents and for what it's worth Walliam's and Lucas were responsible for The One Ronnie.

I can't comment on it if i haven't seen it. I even said at the end that i wasn't gonna watch future episodes . Also it's my job to complain about things that aren't good. Telling a critic not to complain is like telling a dog not to bark. Also, i have a sense of humour. I love television and movie comedies...this wasn't funny.

unbearable shite. David Walliams is an ugly unlikeable fail of a a comedian. No wonder the only job he could get after LB was appearing on "celebrity" panel shows. He has to be the most charmless actor in the history of TV. He also has this psychotic look in his eyes that I find really creepy.
I'm just glad I don't pay my TV licence. Anyone who pays it an idiot.

The joke was not the word "Bangkok". It was a commentary on how most Britons travelling to Bangkok are probably going there to sleep with prostitutes. Bangkok is the capital of Thailand, not a made-up place with a funny name, like Scunthorpe.

@Slipstreamer I know that Bangkok is a real place, but i think that the joke was intended as a play on words because of the name Bangkok. I think that if Matt and Dave were going for commentary then they would have probably used Amsterdam. That would have gotten a laugh out of me as opposed to a joke that's been done by nearly everyone who has heard of Bangkok.

And your numbers are wrong. The 1st episode got 12 mil, but after that the viewership dropped every week until just over 4 mil tuned in by series end. I have seen Little Britain and that wasn't racist and even if it was your statement makes no sense. (You're saying that because Little Britian was racist, it's ok here)

I have yet to see or read an objective review of popular culture. I didn't agree with your review of Destiny of the Daleks, but I didn't react by calling you the most arrogant man in Britain. I personally believe Walliams and Lucas are highly over-rated.

@Mubble The thing is, though, the spoof 'mockumentary' has now become worn-out. The spoofs are now in danger of spoofing other spoofs instead of the original target of the spoof, be it a documentary, drama, whatever. Perhaps paying homage to older comedies (ie. 'The One Ronnie', which I thought was fairly good) is what this pair are best at, rather than trying to be original. Spoofs aren't original any more and camp is not funny in itself.

There are clearly two camps (no pun intended) - those who DO and those who DON'T find this show funny. I don't. However, I DID find 'The One Ronnie' somewhat amusing. Walliams and Lucas were producers on that show - I'm not sure if that means 'writers'. However, not only were they reworking an established format, but the 'Songs of Praise' sketch was reminiscent of an old 'Not The Nine O'Clock News' skit. Will Matt and David be as loved 30 years from now as The Two Ronnies, or Morecambe & Wise?

Nearly every professional UK TV Critic hated the show, and alot of the viewers complained about the racist aspects of the show. Also, after the first episode on Christmas, the viewing numbers dropped by a sizable amount.

@Tom21a It is a sketch show. A sketch is a small scene (about 2 minutes long at the most) with a variety of characters one after the other. In this case, the sketches are set in an airport.

Little Britain (A sketch show done right, at least for its first 2 seasons) was quick, to the point, genuinly funny and witty with good performances. The same really can't be said here.

@MrTARDISreviews Oh I dont know I only watched the Pilot. I just ment that a pilote is supposed to be one of the best of a series in order to hook the audience to the show. However this one felt as thought this show ran for say 5 years and someone took all the bad sketches and compiled them together. In other words it was a total Pilot FAIL!

It had the most views for a comedy show in 2010, People obviously like the show me being one of them. At the end of the day it was written for people who have a different sence of humour than yours. Lets be honest theres fuck all good TV on nowadays.

@00hollandj Tbh, i don't think there is anything wrong with my sense of humour. Little Britain Series 1 &2? Great. I love comedy films, and comedy television shows. Blackadder, Frasier, Friends and many more. This wasn't funny. It was boring, slow and almost painful. But here's what i don't get. It had the most views for a comedy show? Probably. But does that immediately make it good? Hell no! Besides, just because alot of people watched it, doesn't mean alot of people liked it.

Walliams hosted a show last week about awful moments in television, even taking a swipe at Dr Who. Oddly, the grotesque 'Little Britain' and the appallingly unfunny 'Come Fly With Me' were not featured. One day, someone else may host a similar programme and this deficiency will be corrected.

I agree that they have lost the plot, they haven't been able to pull out anything decent since little britain abroad, like Little Britain USA, that just tries to hard to be funny and its not its the worst piece of crap ever, the first three series of Little Britain were gold, ok it got a little shaky in the 3rd series, but still better than what they have been serving up since, ok in USA, lou and andy are the only characters that make it watchable, but no the boys have lost the plot i think

I had to turn the program off after ten minutes; like you said it took so long to get to the punch line you couldn't laugh, even on the rare occasion it was actually funny.
It was so predictable and dull I think you were generous giving it a 2/10, I wouldn't have given it 0.

@Liamcardtricks I gave it a 2 for a reason. There is the occasional funny line and the peformances can be good, but the rest is awful. I even made those points in the review. If there is hardly anything good about the episode, then i can't talk about it. That's the point of a review. If you like it, fair enough. But i really really didn't like it.

Come Fly with Me is dreadful (only Horne and Corden is worse). I find it hard to believe that Lucas and Walliams who were responsible for the wonderful Little Britain are responsible for this. I don't blame you for hating this show, it's awful and a waste of time.

the bit with the security guard molesting the male passengers is just creepy. Can't believe they got away with it. I'm starting to think the problem these days with comedy is that there's no restrictions or decency standards. I don't just say that as a prude, I think back when there was such rules it gave the comedy both humility and something to reign the excesses in, whilst also something to rail against- art through adversity if you will. It just seems this show is undisciplined and indulgent

Like many other poor souls in the U.K I had to endure watching this tripe with my family on Christmas day, after the pretty spellbinding Doctor Who episode (we'd Sky + it), and had to continue watching scene after scene because some members of my family...liked it. (????) And it felt more like 30 days rather than 30 minutes.

I see you're point entirely but it's important to have a healthy balanced diet so a littloe bit of crap tv does no harm, I myself enjoy viewings of The Most Annoying People 20?? and after several glasses of wine when you're feeling fairly despondent for eating too much cheese it's okay, especially when you've seen the real life equivalents and for what it's worth Walliam's and Lucas were responsible for The One Ronnie.
