@iparty999 too bad that's not the case. Grass only generates at map-generation. Afterwards it can only spread out from other grass blocks. It needs sunlight to do this, however. Every block with light under 4 can 'die' and revert to a dirt block. I don't think that this will be changed in newer versions.
