  • poooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr dog

  • How long did it take your dog to get better from this and start walking normally again? My dog just got this last night at 4:40 A.M. and it scared the hell outta us.

  • PLEASE PLASE PLEASE WRITE ME BACK ON THIS!!!! What kind Of dog is this?!!??? My dog looks just like this doggy!!!!! He does this too I'm so scared please tell me information please!

  • my dog Rusty just got this disease and looks much like this dog ..how long will he be like this? some say weeks and some have said that their dogs were never 100% better ..he's 14 years old

  • @cmab20114 hey ive inbox messaged you some info on vestibular disease :)

  • my dog has this, i thought it was a stroke. i didn't take her to the vet or anything, but i noticed a lot of people have mentioned that the vet gave their dog anti-biotics and anti-inflammatory things. i dont feel comfortable giving my dog anti-biotics or any other drugs since they make their small bodies do unnatural things, but what if i gave her supplements with omega 3's, since they have anti-inflammatory properties?

  • Aw pour thing! Thats what my dog has right now :(

  • just got home from the emergency ,we thought our older corgi was having a seizure and we were told vestibular disease i'm still freaked out by this she looks so bad my heart is broken that she is going through this

  • Beautiful dog. Thank you for posting. RIP, Jess.

  • :( I dont wamt

  • It's very upsetting when it happens but (touch wood) they do get better, with our Springer Spaniel cleaning her ears seemed to speed up her recovery

  • I have a question about feeding and cleaning because since my dog carnt move she has to poo on the floor and it can get eavry were and suggestions

  • @warhero40000

Jess used to get distressed when she wanted the toilet so we would carry her outside. Occasionaly we had the odd accident but that can't be helped, so keep plenty of bleach or disinfectant handy. You can get nappies for dogs (ask your vet), or you can use human one's designed for babies although they don't fit quite as well, but they are cheaper. As far as feeding goes put the bowl close to your dogs mouth and if necssary help and support the dog whilst it eats. Good luck!

  • My dog had vestibular syndrome. At regular vet I got diagnosis and told he'll get better in about 3 days and then that will be good as he will get. Took him to holistic vet that prescribed (and also found some heart problems traditional vet did not find during exam) 3 HOMEOPATHIC liquids and two pills for HEART (Vetri-science and vetmedin) and he recovered completely from the VS within 24 hours.

  • i think she trying to see because she trying to get the rock in her ear back where were

  • I have vestibuler problem so I know what ur dog going thru

  • @lacey2682

Sorry to hear about your problem, it can be treated so don't lose heart

  • I am glad to read and see this video too! We were up all of last night with our 14.5 year old MinPin. She didn't sleep and neither did we! I really thought she was having a stroke, but upon finding this, I am certain she is suffering with vestibular disease. It seems to be a lot like I experience when I have episodes of vertigo! I feel so badly for her. She is somewhat better today; at least she can stand without falling and her eyes aren't doing the constant darting back and forth.

  • @redbird2005

How is MinPin now? Did you take her to the vets and was vestibular disease diagnosed? I hope she is better, you have our best wishes.

  • Just now saw your response to this. Thanks for asking. Yes, this was the official diagnosis and she has had a few more episodes since the initial one, however presently she is doing quite well!

  • My dog, 13 years old problably has the same condition as Persy. At least that what our vet told us. Scary when the dog has the head tilt. I thought it was the end already now I am witing for full recovery!

  • My dog, 13,5 years probably has the same condition as Persy. Scary with tha head tilt and staring eyes. I hope my dog will be well soon!

  • Hi, my dog who is 3 years old has the same problem. THe vet gave him pills and he seemed to get better but after all the pills were gone he got worse than before. So we put him back on the pill and he was getting better and 3 days after he was done with the pills he got so much worse. He cant stand at all or go to the bathroom. The vet is saying that he doesnt know and should put him to sleep but I think he can be treated please if you know anything help???

  • @Jenspark1 Sorry to hear this. I would be surprised if your dog has vestibular disease as he's only 3 years old and it normally only occurs in older dogs. If I was you I would take my dog to a different vet for a second opinion as soon as possible. Don't give up on your dog yet until you are absolutely sure nothing can be done, he's only young. Good luck and please let me know how it goes. Metzmoo

  • my dog mandy is pretty damn tough she is blind, deaph, has had surgery on both he back legs, has an ear infection, had a stroke in may 2010, and is afriad of stairs and cars, and is 13, is my dog like invincible or something because no matter what happens to her she always gets better MANDY IS THE COMEBACK POOCH

  • THANK YOU for posting this. My dog is 10 years old, and is exactly like this. The vet said he wasn't 100 percent sure what it was, so he gave us pills. I was worried, but now that I see this, I realize this is exactly what my dog has. And from the comments below, you say she recovered within a week, which is great. Sorry you lost her due to old age though :(

  • @Loggester Thankyou for your comments and kind words :)

  • Thanks for posting your video. Today out of now where my dog Persy was unable to stand and her head was tilting I thought she was having a stroke. I havent take her to the vet yet (since i woke up at 5:45 am, and here in Panama we dont have a good 24/7 emergency vet. so i ll have to wait till 8am so i can take her.

Your video really helped, Im 96% sure my Persy has the same thing as Jess

    Im sorry for your lost

  • @Vivi30807 How is Persy doing now? Did you take her to the vets?

  • @metzmoo Its so nice from you to ask! :)

Persy is doing great! I took her to the vet the next day and they send her some ear drops. Took 5 days for her symptoms to disappear, but she is good now.

    Thanks for asking!

  • Oh and my now 18 year old dog had a second attack of vestibular disease a few months ago. She has a persistent and antibiotic resistant deep inner ear infection and I just have to watch that it stays under control. But she recovered yet again. Any questions please ask. I want anyone who finds that their dog is attacked by this scary disease to fight through it with their dogs. It is curable. Of course maybe not always, but only stop fighting when it is crystal clear you've lost.

  • @mariahxgarzaxmlg from what I have heard canine stroke is VERY rare. Either way your dog should go to a vet b/c often vestibular disease is caused by a deep inner ear infection & antibiotics are needed for you to see any improvement. I am all about minimal vet visits b/c sometimes I think they don't even know whats going on but if what your dog is experiencing is this then she will definitely need care. Give her very small amounts of water every hour or so. Those kidneys need to stay hydrated.

  • Same thing happened to my girl (Basia) yesterday, out of nowhere! Vomiting, no balance, head tilt, eyes back and forth, couldn't even stand up. After laying with her all day, I took her to the emergency vet...scared to death and thinking the worst. The vet was AWESOME and thinks it's ideopathic vestibular syndrome. She prescribed meclizine (for motion sickness) and cephalexin (antibiotic). She also said there's no cure...it just runs its course and goes away.Better today, hoping for improvement.

  • My 16 1/2 year old Shiba Inu is going through this right now. We are on Day 3. The first day I was in tears, my buddy of over 16 years seemed to have had a stroke. We saw the vet, and she knew of this disease. We've been giving him water with a very large syringe, putting it in his mouth slowly and he drinks it. We mixed up some thin oatmeal today and did the same thing and he had his first food in 3 days. He is slowly coming around, finally moving around a little more, and is a bit more alert.

  • Oh boy, it's got a pretty bad head tilt. My dog just got diagnosed with the same thing. It's a scary experience.

  • Oh - & no vaccines, heart worm preventative, or flea meds. And guess what - no fleas, heart worms, or sicknesses, EVER. They survive just fine in the wild. It's all unnecessary unless they already have a sickness that requires medical care. But the key is prevention.

  • Yup, & it's been 3 months since my post & my dog w/ vestibular disease is as healthy as if it never happened. I have a 9 yr old who has been paraplegic (due to an accident) for 6 years, & all those complications vets scare you to death w/, I have never had w/ him. I feed my dogs well thought out home cooked meals. Always have. I have never had an animal (& I have had tons) not die of OLD age. No odd cancers, kidney failure, or other weird crap I hear animals get. Sorry but it has to be the food.

  • oh man i have a pit 7 years old i found him stumbling i thought he had a stroke but its odvd

  • Im in the middle of trying to figure out what is happening with my dog. I'm thankful this video is posted, and pleased to see the largely positive comments. The comments give me more hope than I had that my dog is going to be okay.

  • So sorry for anyone's loss :( My dog is 17 yrs old & I woke up to her vomiting EVERYWHERE, facial paralysis, head tilt, no coordination or balance. Vestibular Disease is the scariest thing. Brought her to the vet for IV fluids, started her on antibiotics just in case an infection set it off, & gave her small amts of water & Liquid food throughout the day. Day 5 & she is 100% better. The vet told me to put her to sleep. The disease looks REALLY bad, but it MAY NOT be the end. I assure you!

  • I totally agree. The disease makes the dog look a lot worse than they actually are. Jess recovered within a week and I only lost her this year due to old age (17yrs) Sounds like you should change your vet!

  • @metzmoo OMG i think you guys may have just given me an answer to one of my dogs problems, hes aqlways walking around with his head tilted to one side, for the longest while weve just thought that its an inner ear problem thats been throwing him off balance can anyone give more more pointers about this disease?

  • 17 years old holy crap the only dog ive seen that old was a Italian greyhound

  • @christieomp143 my dog is young and she is doing that to but do that bad and her left sid of her body is kinda week but i call the vet and he say a lot of crap but did your vet say or it could be Canine Stroke

  • @mariahxgarzaxmlg This normally occurs in old age. Hope your dog recovered.

  • My dog Sydney was attacked by this diease just a week ago She can walk only a few yards then looses her balance. She eats well and drinks alot of water.. You can see her at the beginning of my of my videos on youtube... The comments on this video have made me feel much better

  • I just lost my dog 2 days ago with same symptoms with your dog. I hope your dog will make it through.

I love my Porte. R.I.P Porte 08/24/2000-09/01/2009. I miss him so much.

  • Our black standard poodle Jodie of 13 yrs died today of a stroke and this just looks like what happened to her at 5am this morning.

Her eyes were going around in circles and the she lost all co-ordination.

    Sorry for your loss too

  • obviously... im very sorry for your loss.

  • Thankyou for your kind words. We had to have her put to sleep on the 3rd. It was Arthritis that got her in the end, she could no longer walk unaided.

  • my 14 year old schnauzer had vesibular disease last summer. it is scary as hell and videos like yours helped me better understand the disease. jake recovered very well other then the head tilt. he now has some arthritis and i just keep loving him while he still has a quality of life. sorry for your loss.

  • did she pass away?

  • R.I.P Jess. 1993-2009. Miss her very,very much.x

  • @metzmoo RIP :( She's somewhere wonderful. All animals go somewhere wonderful.

  • @metzmoo I'm very sorry for the loss of Jess. I was wondering if you found out what caused her vestibular? Was it an ear thing? My dog suddenly came down w/ it yesterday....very scary.

  • AWW!!! That poor dog! Her neck is all, sideways. Poor Jess!

  • My cat got this as well..she was on the floor, looking sideways (as your dog is) and she was pooping everywhere and meowing..I was so scared! It took 3 vets to find out what she had...thank god for the last vet we found which saved her from the disease. It has now been at least 7 years, and she is completely fine. She will sometimes stand with her head crooked a little bit, but thats about all. Good wishes to your dogs health, he/she is such a cutie!!

  • I also have a video of her here in utube, in january when the syndrom started... she totally blind and also has kidney and liver faillure... so she only eats prescription diet... we though she was going to die... but if u look at her, she is really doing well and somedays she is a little bit bad and sad but next day she is in a better shape and happy... doctors has told me "your dogs has more than 9lives" because she has everything a dog can has and she is still alive and fine... :)

  • My 15 year-old dog Mosa has the same syndrome... she has it since january 2009... but doctors couldn't help her... so she still has it... they told me that she is never going to straigth her neck again... but I really don't care about the neck... I only care about her being ok and painless... rigth now she is playing in her bed, she has a normal live like any dog... of course she can't walk rigth... but she knows where we are by audition so she can find us. I hope ur dog is ok.

  • Our dog is nearly 17 yrs now and has had vestibular for just over 2 yrs and she is still with us, bless her. She still has the head tilt but copes with it fine. :-)

  • my dog has this

  • My dog just had this yesterday. The right side of his face is paralyed to the point he can't blink his right eye. He walks with his head tilted to the right and it looks like his right foot his partially paralyed. Will all this go away and he will blink again? Sounds like your dogs did recover!

  • Jess's left eye bulged out which gave her restrictions with blinking. It's still a lot more prominent than her right after 2 yrs and she still has the head tilt but she's doing fine. Have you been to the vet?

Hope he makes a full recovery.

  • Yes I took him to the animal hospital and they said that its seems like he had a stroke but they are not sure and want to do an MRI which cost $3800. His spirit is still up and he eats and is still active. Just off balance and unable to blink his right eye. The Vet told me that dogs recover from strokes within 2 to 6 weeks. Does this mean he will recover from the paralysis and be able to blink again? The rest doesn't seem to bother him.

  • I went to visit my pug last night, she was feeling a little better but still very crooked, the vet said she should be OK to come home in a few days, thanks :)

  • were her eyes moving back and forth.. my pug was diagnosed with this yesterday she hasn't left the vet.. i'm afraid she will die.. how long does this last

  • yes, her eyes did move back and forth as she was trying to get her balance along with her head moving around. Jess's episode lasted about a couple of wks. She's now 15 and still with us, dogs that get this normally don't die it looks worse than it actually is.Hope your pug gets better soon.

  • She had to get her entire inner ear remove.. she will live the rest of her life with a head tilt but she is OK.

  • Wow,Haven't heard of a dog having its inner ear removed! So glad to hear she's doing ok.

    :-)

  • do dogs with stroke die anyway cause ours not

  • It has been over a year since Jess had her episode and she is alive and well, but still has a slight head tilt.

  • wow,

3 months earlier i said she was alive but now she's gone, she was euthanized last july i think, so shes not here anymore...

  • So sorry to hear that jdawey. It must have been her time.

  • it was april since my dog had this stroke and now she's still paralyzed but not dead

  • My dog suffered a stroke today, has a slight head tilt and balance problem. Very worrying time. Hope he's going to pull through.

  • It doesn't sound like a stroke if there's a head tilt and a balance problem. That was the first thing I thought when Jess had her episode until the vet said it was vestibular. If it is vestibular your dog should pull through, it looks worse than it actually is. How old is your dog? as it's very common in older dogs. Fingers crossed and I do hope he gets better.

  • Metzmoo - how long did your dog show symptoms? Mine was really bad for the 1st 3 days and is better now, but it has been several weeks and she still loses her balance and has a pronounced head tilt.

  • Jess showed severe symptoms for about a week (she couldn't walk or stand up). It's been over a year now and she still has a slight head tilt and occasional balance problems. I don't expect she will ever be 100% again.

  • It's so heartbreaking to see when it happens, but thank goodness they can even get better on their own, with some dramamine during the first couple days and isolation in a pen so they wont hurt themselves, dogs then learn how to live with it and can be as good as new in as little as a week. What is helpful is that the direction the eyes or head tild toward tell you where the brain lesion is and you know it is Idiopathic Vestibular Disease.

  • Is there any way this disease can harm your pet even after it recovers? During the state of not recovering, can they perish at all?

  • Our dog is still ok and it's been almost a year since her episode. No sign of any worsening, apart from the usual things that come with old age. Some of the comments below might help as well. If in doubt check with your vet.

  • What happens if they can't get up to eat or drink anything? How long should you wait?

  • She was off food anyway but i did bring her water bowl over to her. She began to eat again within 3-4 days with help, ie standing and was eating on her own within 7-10 days.

  • Can equines get it too?? My friend had a horse that carried himself the same way the dog in this video did. The vet put him down poor baby....

  • Yes, I believe that horses can suffer from the same condition.

  • Poor baby. It does get better and they recover. You should get some anti nausea and anti vertigo meds from your vet to help him. My cat had it bad and the meds really do help, they are basically like human dramamine.

  • A steroid injection from the vet and with time she slowly got better. Still not 100% though a slight head tilt remaining after 6 months.

  • our dog had a vestibular episode last nite. he was thrashing his head around, n his eyes had rolled right back. hes bad, but better now.

  • Hmmm....I hope your dog is ok. Jess had a couple of mini episodes a few days before her big one. I do hope that it's not a precursor in your case. Might be an idea to check with your vet.

  • yeah, we checked with our vet, and he said he was ok. BUT, as its the way of the world, he died a week ago. he wasnt in a fit state, and his lifestyle wasn't very good, so we had him put down. the only reason we kept him alive was for our benifit, not his. i hope your dog gets better and makes a full recovery though.

  • Very sorry to hear that. It must have been very distressing for you, it's not an easy decision to make.

  • it wasnt, but were all for doing whats best for our animals, even if it feels like taking away a family member.
