None of the new artists of today (the young ones) can't harmonize like this. It takes good musical skill and a helluva lotta practice, which makes for the good vocals you hear.
Hey ya'll not a pro or anything, but I love EWF and listen to the ascending bass line played by Senor Verdine White... It is the same one from The Emotions 1976 song Me For You off the Flowers album... You may choose to argue, but I know my music and am convinced that the bass, drums and fender rhodes chords are identical... Pull out your LP (not cd) and listen and hit a youngin' back... Peace "Born in 1981"
word... that is pretty close to the same bassline from "Me For You"... and also the same rythym guitar back-beat ... good call... i knew that was EWF and charles stepney when i watched the movie, but i didnt even notice the connection to "Me For You" ... damn good ear ...
it was so cool to see and hear the legendary, mythical Charles Stepney in this flick... i was suprised that he even had some speaking parts and a performance scene, working on piano chords with Harvey Keitel ... Maurice White, Al McKay and crew, were great too.. im shocked that this flopped... i got it from Netflix, and they may never get it back ... sue me ...
the name of the movie is "That's The Way Of The World"(1975)... the song is likely a Charles Stepney/Maurice White arrangement, as they scored the movie and soundtrack ... it was a song that a fictional group "The Pages" (based on The Carpenters), was having recorded for a radio single ...
I love that API mixing console in there, thats a classic, I have several of those 550A eqs in my studio, just killer EQs! Man they dont make records like this anymore!
Who is the vocal group in this clip? This song is actually pretty good. IT has to be some Charles Stepney-produced material. Who else could take a soul groove and combine it with elements of the Carpenters, 5th Dimension, and Jimmy Webb and STILL keep it funky?!?!
This movie introduced me to Earth, Wind and Fire in the 70's and I've been in love with them ever since, That's the way of the world has been my favorite song ever since!
0:36, there's session great and Fourplay band member Harvey Mason!

Cool post. Charles is in this movie with a small part as Johnny. Keitel's Assistant. He was brought on set as an advisor for this scene.

This song was arranged and co-produced by Charles Stepney. I am biased but he worked hard those strings.

Nice query, ODawg.
Well a Thom Bell, circa 1971, could take orchestrations & rhythms and create a "People Make The World Go Round' kind of jazz cover standard.
But Im thinking that Thom and his stable of folks had nothing to do with this.

Good observation about Thom Bell. Can't help but to agree.
