So these travelers have now got there buddy to turn up and say the council hard cored it,but it turns out that dispute has been going on for decades since the 60s with no one being able to prove the council did the work because no paper work exists for any council works or vehicle's entering that site.though the council served the previous owner with enforcement notices in 92 and 94.I take it those notices are to do with planning so still looks like the council are right here.

@naradaian Only those with personal experience can really know. Researching this subject turns up reports of scams and thefts from around the world. We had some of the men associated with this site selling worthless generators from a van here in sunny Bolloxshire. The generators were labelled as having twice the actual power and the Makita angle grinders were fakes. Many vulnerable people have suffered as a result of these crimes and now many vulnerable people are in danger at the site.

@naradaian Easy option is to look at Dale Farm on google street view. Perhaps ask yourself where all that rubbish along the side of the road came from and how you'd feel if you lived next door. Also wonder what sort of driving did that to the fence. While you're at it look up and down Roches Road, Rathkeale. Persistant reports in Irish and English press claiming some Dale Farm residents own other properties. So much bullshit and the sick, the elderly and the kids are the ones who suffer most.

A well known writer moved in and eventually gained title. A mini eco village was built there in the 70's. It was bulldozed by the local council. The crime was living an ecologically sound lifestyle. @woopwoopxxx Because there is a scrap yard or any other business or building on greenbelt land does not alter the greenbelt status of the land. There are many houses and business`s within the greenbelt. To get planning permissin on these sites is virtually impossible for ordinary people, but travellers have had some success in the past because of their gypsy status. When planning is refused they should obey the law.

I was hoping you were right actually, and that nothing happens with Dale Farm. Then it would be common law to do what you want with green belt land, as you could argue in the courts that travelers got 'special treatment' and so it's common law that everyone gets the same treatment.

Or even better; completely ignore any and all planning permissions.

Hopefully this is a turning point in our disgusting liberal history (giving certain people special treatment).

This is a heavily populated island with a rich history. There are few places that have no signs of previous use. The issues highlighted by the Dale Farm campaign affect many of us. Who feels we would be far better off if local 'authorities' stopped objecting to our little developments? All of us are equal so we should all now build whatever extra accommodation, office space etc we need. Just make sure it doesn't affect your neighbours. If the local 'authorities' object call for support.

some of the comments on here are really unsettling. If the the Travellers break the law then that is matter for the police. They aren't facing eviction for not sending their kids to school, or for dumping rubbish, or for smelling bad; they are being forced off the land they own because of planning regulations. The point is Basildon Council are wasting a large proportion of their budget, in these hard times, on an eviction which most of the world agree is ill-advised.
