  • just about all these new ARs coming out for 2012 are amazing, there is huge competition at this years SHOT Show

  • I've been waiting for over a year now for this rifle to come out. Getting tired of waiting. My local gun shop has a LMT MWS sitting on their rack... :-/

  • Does anyone know if an AK mag will fit in the SP901's magwell? If so couldn't they create an adapter so that you could use AK mags (with the right upper and bolt)?

  • @wye4379 No, it wont its an AR, not an AK. the mags go straight up into the reciver, you dont rock them in like an AK

  • @HunterKiller308

Yes I am aware of how an AK works....

The question was whether there was sufficient width in the mag well to accommodate an AK magazine. If so there also may be sufficient length in the 901 mag well to allow you to either rock in an AK magazine OR use some other system (see the Krebs Custom Speed Load) that would obviate the need to rock the magazine in.

Additionally I suspect that you would also change the bolt too to allow it to strip a round out to the mag, but ...

  • @wye4379 idk, im no expert. but why would you want to go through all that trouble for so retro fit job when there are already good mags that work?

  • HK416

  • Isen't the piston driven system from the HK 417 better?

  • @checchia no

  • that is bitching! I was like oh boy another colt when I saw the title. but that ended up being one of the coolest things I've seen yet!

  • Simply love it!

  • Oh fuck, there goes my wallet

  • I approve of this!

  • the upper conversion kit looks like its just a magblock that mounts directly to any upper... that would be boss...

  • Colt needs to upgrade to piston drive gas system..

  • @flexx1987 I don't think that's necessary personally... The Brits spent millions of pounds testing a new 308 marksman rifle and they chose the LMT 308 (similar to a SR-25 or DPMS LR308) which is also DI... it beat out the other contestants overall. I guarantee you they wouldn't have ordered millions of dollars worth of rifles if they weren't reliable. I've had nothing but success with my DI AR's

  • @flexx1987 DI > Piston IMO. If I wanted, or anybody actually, a piston system get a gun designed from the start aka SCAR, AK, and so forth. The is no big advantage in the AR piston system you still have to lube, and clean em, unless your MIL, suppressed a lot, or full auto. If you want em go for it, just not really NEEDED.

  • @flexx1987 yeah, but can you handle the heating from GP? (i love GP, just hate the heating problems)

  • Is this just a civi version to the CM901?

  • It looks to me like that coating on the SP901 is very reflective...2:21

  • @REDNAK47 Good point. It might be hard-coat/dye anodized and maybe that's why it has a bit of a sheen to it.

  • I gotta admit I was reluctant to even click on the vid based on the title. I was like oh yawn Colt and another AR yawn. But that's actually really cool. Is that lower milled? Looks EXPENSIVE!

  • niiiice.

  • Since this is colt I could see the price being more than 2 separate rifles of the same quality. It will be 2500 msrp or more if I know colt!

  • Well if you buy a scar 17 good luck finding mags for it. 80-100 a pop? No thanks. Im glad the colt runs the standard sr25 mags. $20 a pop for a pmag

  • I love the idea but its probably cheaper to just buy a 556 and 308 rifle seperately. I'm sure its in the receiver but a 7.4 lb sbr DI 556, why? a full size Ruger 556 piston gun with quad rail only weighs 7.94 lbs. Its still a great concept but I would rather carry 2 functioning rifles than 1 rifle and some parts. scoped M1A and a Draco AK SBR sounds like more fun :)

  • nice but seems heavy, could be wrong.

  • @1IdeaAhead 9Lbs is pretty standard for AR-10 style rifle. I think they could of save a lot of weight using a modular slim-line handguard instead of a full quadrail. But weight is price you pay going from 556 to 308.

  • Man, they just keep pushing back the release date.. It was supposed to have been out last year.

  • it`s cool that colt remembered us lowly civilians and are starting to put out weapons that we can own now that that the wars are winding down;but how will they treat us on pricing?will they take advantage of us like they do our government or will they treat us right?i`am not sure i`am feeling the love!

  • I'd rather own two riles in different calibers

  • Damn I hope I can afford this.lol

  • I like the ambi lower.

  • 9 lbs, anything lighter? Scar 17 still seems better!

  • California version please…

  • Any word on Pricing for this system.

  • I was more interested last year when they said you could use any existing AR upper with it. Not a .308 with just a .223 conversion kit

  • After buying a SCAR 17 all the others just look like another fugging AR variant.....yawn

  • Can you compare that to the HK 417?

  • something to buy along with a 300 upper

  • I think the same Colt rep said in another video that the buffer spring and buffer had to also be changed for the 308 to 556 conversion. I personally can't see any reason someone would want to carry around an additional upper and a whole other set of different magazines and ammo on their person, which is a lot of unnecessary weight. If you can afford a 308 AR, you can afford a 556 lower.

  • A 1/12 twist for 556? It's about time!!! That's the twist that the 55 grain 556 bullet was designed for (as far as I know)

  • 9.4 lbs for .308 is pretty impressive... But 7.4 lbs for a 10" 5.56?

  • @echang86

That means all the weight is in the lower receiver. hahah

  • Video Production values I mean. Excellent video/editing/etc.

  • I do quite like that conversion process. Mag well insert and the optics stay with the upper to keep zero. Very nice idea. Maybe not for everyone. These production values are very, very good.

  • wow. i want.

  • this rifle is set to make all other semi auto 308's obsolete

  • @HunterKiller308 Not the SOACR.

  • @TheGuruofWar yes indeed. it will do anything a SOACR can do with multi cal capabilitys

  • @HunterKiller308 Like reduce recoil?

  • @TheGuruofWar all you gotta do is slap a hydrolic recoil buffer in it

  • @HunterKiller308 No thanks.

  • @TheGuruofWar are you kidding me? do you even know what a hydrolic recoil buffer is? it takes the recoil of a 7.62x51 down to that of a 7.62x39

  • Comment removed

  • @HunterKiller308 Yes, the SOACR reduces recoil to that of a .223

  • @TheGuruofWar No, it wont

  • @HunterKiller308 Yes, it does. Well, almost .223. Like around 6.8mm or 6.5mm. Hell, man, it does.

  • @TheGuruofWar the same can be said of any AR10 with hydrolic recoil buffer and muzzle device

  • @HunterKiller308 Yeah. Quite a funky battle rifle.

  • @TheGuruofWar indeed

  • @TheGuruofWar not to mention the benifits of a muzzle comp

  • @HunterKiller308 Or how about reduce fire rate and heating?

  • @TheGuruofWar reduce rate of fire? lol

  • @HunterKiller308 Bro, are you passing out on .308 on full auto?

  • @TheGuruofWar No, but im not spending $12,000 on the tax either...and full auto is a bit of a waste since you are limiting how many rounds you can carry by 3 times when rounds like 5.56 are avalible

  • @HunterKiller308 Not unless you can control the full-auto. That's one of the reasons why they reduced the RoF on tho SOACR and SOAR. My money's still on those . Plus, their Filipino. National PRIDE!

  • @HunterKiller308 I'd also spend $2000 on a Trijicon as well.

  • @HunterKiller308 including the HK417?

  • @checchia in my opinion yes, the HK417 is a nice rifle to be sure, but it is no where near as modular as the CM901 platform. the HK even uses a proprietary magizine.

  • @HunterKiller308 Agreed, this is a major game changer. I wonder what the price points are on the kits though, given that it is Colt, I suspect their .223 caliber uppers cost as much or more than other companies complete rifles.

  • MSRP.....please?

  • @rationalmoderate About $2100.

  • @REDNAK47 If it's at that price point, I'll certainly explore it more.

  • Me wishes Me had money for toys like this ;.(

  • It appears that the response to the Colt brand is strong skepticism.

  • Very nice but it still weighs 9 pounds

  • But wait, isn't this dejavu all over again from last year's SHOT show?

    YT: 8rLx2SVpcOM

  • Nice, this is an encouraging development. It's probably been asked before, but any indication of what the MSRP is going to be?

  • @FPSArizona i have seen it listed for pre oreder for just under 2K in black with a 308 upper only

  • nice setup, I like the fact that they're finally catching up with new modifications

  • I caught wind of this weapon a while back....I have to give Colt a thumbs up on the design....

They have taken the AR design to a New level...but being the "New Design" on the market...we

will have to see....as a "owner" of both, the 5.56 and 7.62 platforms...I will be watching as to the out come...Professional Opinion...Great Idea...but Cost is going to be a " Major" factor to the Public...as what was stated...

    Great Vid..

    Target On...

  • When the representatve said "multi-caliber" and "conversion" I did not think he was going to replace half of the gun. It's interesting, but at colt's prices you can buy two DPMS rifles.

  • @swiftcoyote I think you just made the best possible case ever for the Colt right there with that statement. You get what you pay for.

  • It's pretty funny, I skip everybody else's SHOT Show videos except yours and fancys. Y'all both do equally awesome jobs.

  • Now that's a game changer.

  • @huntwithairguns You said it!!!

  • DI, Heavy, and probably pretty expensive. No thanks. Next!

  • now this is a colt firearm alright. always makes em perfect.

  • in my opinion this is much much better than an AK with quick removable barrel...

  • Nice! Would only need to sbr one lower for two calibers!

  • What type of mags do the 308 version take?

  • @rladams1972 ar10

  • @rladams1972 PMAGs etc... There are a bunch of 20 round .308 AR style mags already on the market.

  • wasnt something very very similar to this featured on future weapons a couple of years back?

  • That system is gonna catch on big time. I see someone in the future offering an upper so guys with ar-10 can use 5.56 great stuff. Only in America!!

  • Won't you still have to change buffers to run the different calibers?

  • looks like the CM901

  • That is very cool!

  • Seems neat. As a civilian I would rather just have two guns, but I can see how someone who works in a field where this would be necessary would appreciate the option. Good vid!

  • @MrDownrange Very true. Not to mention this system with both uppers would most likely cost as much/more than just buying a nice ar-10 and ar-15.

  • interesting

  • I like it!! best of both worlds. Wondering what the MSRP is on this.

  • Awesome.

I wonder how much cause this looks like a winner.

  • I was like, "wait, I've seen this before..."

    You guys in cahoots?

  • @ALAPINO Yes, I was shooting video for Guns and Ammo at SHOT Show. I shot this for G&A.

  • @Sturmgewehre Very nice. Certainly of the better end of the production quality at SHOT this year. Kudos!

  • Its goint to be another ACR where conversions wont come out for years. Hopefully Im wrong though, but I doubt it.

  • Top Notch
