that pond is too big reminds me of a pool that a kid could drown in but I do have one question? Would it be realistic to use solar power for the pump? I dont want to spend a lot of money to run it year round and it would be hard to find a way to plug it in. Thanks!
Part 2 vid, again a good video, i am impressed with the pond, part 2 did look a bit like hard work, however the point is its your pond to enjoy, i would have done things slightly different, the hiccup with the socket tells me a b it about your planning, overall like it a lot, i guess the really enjoyed that project, sometime this year i am going to rebuild my point and video it,it will be approx volume wise 7 x larger..keep up the good work
With the 1 inch pipe inserted through the sides and into the ground for support, it has lasted three years, and doing okay. Check out video 1, for the pipe inserts..Good question!
just one question, why did you put the outlet box horizontally instead of vertically? you could have ran the pvc straight up the poll instead of having the 90° turn leaving the pvc exposed to being damaged.
plus i didn't see any weather cover on that outlet, it can't be exposed to the rain, GFI or not...
very concerned..i still use a extention chord in the backyard fro my pond...is this okay or is it dangerous?..do i have to do the electrical work that you did...my extension cord is going to a regular surge protector for extra outlets..its hidden in a 8x4 concrete block...is it okay if i keep this then bury the extention cord??...please let me know if im in danger of anything...thanks
Keep out of rain and elevated too.Outdoor outlet is better though, because it's waterproof and the insulation around the wiring is made to take humidity. Number one reason for house fires, is because the insulation around the electrical cords gets wet, and then condensation shorts out the wiring. Then a fire starts and burns down your home. I hope you don't mind me helping you...just that I can't find CWAJ either. Aloha Caramia
You will need an extention cord that is made for outdoor useage. Also if you bury the extention cord, run it through a conduit. And make sure that your electrical cord, isn't sitting in the water table. And mark where the electrical line is buried. So you don't accidently cut it with a shovel and electricute yourself.
That's very smart to put the electrical wire inside of the PVC piping. Is that 1"PVC piping. Did you glue the joints of the PVC pipe together? GFCI plug can you buy it at Lowe's or do you need to special order it? I see that you used added a clamp to fasten down the I&O intake-output flexible black hose. Is the electrical box outside not on the pond, is that another electrical box that you addapted, and linked the pond's electrical cord too.
Did you connect these wires with electrical nuts? Ok, you are definately an experienced builder and electrician. I am now head onto part 3. I hope I can find it-Aloha Caramia
Yeah I think he does, I love "how to folks" because I'm always learning how lol I'd like to live next door to him so I can come over and go fishin' :D
Hey K: Have you heard from CWAJ? Anyway, I answered one his questions for him. Up above on this webpage. Man, I hope he doesn't kick my bum......Love Caramia
Nah but I dont expect answers normally I just comment, and even if the video uploader dont answer usually someone does if I have an important question and not when I'm chatting about nothing, cause i do that too.
Great Job.

You should have used electrical conduit along with stranded wires not romex. As for the cover on the GFCI try a in use cover.

@fuckbrayan
You could, but not deep. it is only 2 foot deep.
I think you would have to add chlorine to keep it clean.

i really dont think those sides will last long before they bow. the weight of the water after time will be too much pressure?

In the vid you said GFIC not GFCI! You made it really unnoticeable?

Not really sure how safe it is.
I would say, If you went to all that trouble with an extension cord, why not just do it right.....
I still need to add a rain cover for my outlet, but it has worked for a year and a half. I know.......I might as well do it right....lol

Yes on the wire nuts.
No, not an electrician, but did research my work.
No part 3 as of yet.......sigh

I will add a Part III this summer.
Really busy with my Square foot Garden, and herbs at the moment.

No Overflow. In Texas, I must add water, due to the heat. Rain seldom overflows the pond, if ever.
Great Idea though!

Great send C, wow I'd love one of these, get a solar power pump and this would run free too huh?

i/2 pvc pipe, no glue.
You can buy the GFCI plug at Walmart, and cheaper!
I hooked into my double carport plugs for electricity.
