  • lol this was too funny

  • So were was the fight in the video? As an avid fan and practioner of both San Soo and Muay Thai,I was very interested in seeing this.

  • if you take a trained boxer like dave carter who also knows san soo techniques and has hundreds of street fights along with many past fights in the ring you've got a deadly guy. Problem is most of the san soo masters and others look great on the mat. Off the mat is a different matter. Dave Carter is the one to talk to. He still lives in Whittier Ca. He told me that most san soo guys were great mat fighters but couldn't really do it for real.

  • Larry Wikle likes to talk this up; Larry trained five fighters who lost fights at an event at a culver city event in 1975; three were knocked out. Thaddeus Luster who was a 7th degree san soo blackbelt was annilated by frank hammaker at the 2nd ufc. he also trained at Larry's studio.

  • @1950spin That's not really a fair assessment. Thaddeus didn't get "annihilated" in that fight, he lost yes, but San Soo is not really designed for that environment.

    A) San Soo is built on striking, particularly vital areas, which isn't allowed in the UFC.

    B) Grappling is allowed free reign, due to the lack of vital striking.

    C) San Soo didn't prepare Thaddeus to face "trained" grapplers, which is IMHO the biggest failing of the style... ground fighting is an after thought, at best.

  • I have studied both styles and see them as complimentary styles. I have used some of my san soo takedowns against very good Thai fighters. Nonetheless, I doubt that an old school san soo practitioner could stand against a Thai boxer in the ring. The street is a different matter. I think the physiology and strategy of a san soo fighter might give him the edge if he has street experience.

  • Sansoo is brutal and not a sport art. It got so much in it.

  • who made that thai signal stuff up. dave carter will tell you it never happened. was it a guy named larry that always makes stuff like that up.

  • dave carter was a two time goleden gloves champ as a middleweight before getting involved in san soo. He might have had a chance in his prime. He was a great street fighter around the whittier area well kinown by the local police department as a street brawler that would routinely take on three and four guys at once. He reportedly had over 500 street fights.

  • Is there something wrong with my browser? I saw a few still photos and lots of text but no fight video. I'd be very interested in seeing one as I've done both KFSS and MT/BJJ and would like to see how it turns out.

  • ????? I'm not sure I understand.

  • Check with San Soo Sifu...

  • Don't bother trying. It will just drive you insane.

  • Tone is everything when people write online so I see we are going back and forth. Tell me what parts do you reside in maybe we can get together and talk this through. Clear up any misconceptions and also get away from the comfort of our computers.

  • This Sunday evening I'm driving into town... I will be with two of my "special assignment" pals for a great meal at...

    Grizzly's Grill N' Saloon 661 Kirkwood Mall, Bismarck, ND 58504, 701-258-5840...

If you show up between 7 and 8 pm I will recognize you... You can join us and we can talk to your hearts content.

Dinner is on me, my petulant comrade San Soo citizen.

  • Sir, you missed a great meal and some great shop talk with some bona fide hard-core, real-deal military men.

Maybe you can make it next time...

  • Oh trust me I get it. I get that the internet has just about destroyed this art. Because people can talk about things that almost happened and others can mock people from the comfort of their computers. That's what I get from this metaphor of a video.

  • Sir Frater...

Are you MOCKING me? As you post and read comments... are YOU doing so from the comfort of YOUR computer.

You know what sir... If The Captain slams a non truth, or mocks a hypocrite, such as yourself, that does not destroy San Soo. That simply is slamming a falsehood or a hypocrite... such as yourself.

I see... it's okay to spread B.S. about San Soo, but it destroys San Soo to call someone on teaching or reporting as fact that same B.S.!?!?

  • americansansoo,

I know this, a traditional san soo practitioner would not do well against a Thai boxer. The ONLY san soo practitioners that would stand a chance; are san soo practitioners that have taken san soo to the next level by incorporating Kick boxing / Boxing and grappling (BJJ, Judo)to their arsenal. I would LOVE to see a 70's san soo practitioner beat a Thai boxer. I would actually pay money to see that. WILL NOT HAPPEN!!!

  • Having trained both, I would have to agree that a 70's San Soo guy would not beat a good Muay Thai fighter.

  • @NextGenKFSS08 Can you explain to me why you feel this so? I mean as an art san soo is much more lethal not to mention that it is more offensive in nature while a muay thai guys aim is to beat the living day lights out of you. San Soo strikes human weakness groin neck solar plexus etc etc in rapid progression. They defiantly are not conditioned like the thai fighters but they have an aim to defeat you in 10 strikes are less some end in 3.

  • that was really noy necessary

  • To show the absurdity of the folks who claimed such a fight took place... yes, most necessary.

  • I expected to see some footage, no?

  • No...

Footage of what fight did you expect to see?

A mythological fight, no matter how cool the fantasy story is, is still a mythological fabrication.

  • what the hell are you talking about??? There is no footage of anything on this video.

  • For those of you who are not San Soo People... you will have no idea what is going on here...

Duh, of course there ain't no video, because there ain't no video... Duh!

  • WTF??

  • WTF???

Exactly what you should say in response to the proposition that there was a fight or "practice" fight, back in the day, between San Soo guys and the CHAMPIONSHIP THAI KICKBOXING TEAM!

  • That really proved a lot. We should stop calling ourselves San Soo Fighters and go with San Soo Talkers. That is what this has boiled down too. All we have is talking about the past of the 60s and 70s with very few of us actually putting it on the line and fighting. This video proves that, there is no video just more crap talk of a fight that didn't happen. If we are serious and proud of this why not set up a fight in todays present and settle it rather than talk highly amongest ourselves?

  • Sir Frater8,

This is from the Preamble to the Americansansoo Forum...

"When claims are made of supposed abilities of various Martial Artists, when utterances of special powers by less than truthful practitioners are heard, or simply when presentations of supposed facts about real combat that bear little resemblance to what really happens... provides a springboard to enter the fray of TT & ASS? Truth Telling and American San Soo."

The sarcasm should be OBVIOUS Mr. Frater. You don't get it???
