I'm going to be really honest. It's sound more like the bands took Symphonic power metal, metalcore,and prog metal and mixed it together. This band took the symphonic sound that bands such as Nightwish, Epica, After Forever, Therion, made big and used it so much better then any other metalcore and deathcore band. This band is doing something new because they are the first metalcore band to get it right. Just take a listen to Avantasia. This band used the keyboards the right way.

OK so whats good about this. The clean vocals sound good so do the growls. The keyboards can be heard. They have guitar solos. If they want to call it metalcore go for it. I will add in symphonic and call it a day and will be looking to get there CD.

So, I was in my local FYE today, and I saw this record, thinking: "Wow, that's some sweet art, but I bet it's crap like Parkway Drive or some shit." For /some/ reason beyond me, I scanned the damn bar code on the listener machine and listened to the first track. I decided right then and there this was a band worth watching, despite this being a debut album. But then again, they ARE signed to metal blade. :D

@MrJonathan107 Just so you know, they also have a few EPs they released before they were signed to Metal Blade. They are at least as good as Before The Night Takes Us, if not better. Pestilence and Rapture, Storms Weathered, and I believe the last one is called This War.

If you like this album, i would highly suggest investing into a few of those EPs. :3

I will say that while what passes for metal today is hardly my cup of tea, that you guys have proven to me that there still are people who are willing to try new things. I especially like the fact that your lyrics don't deal with either generic teenage issues or blind hatred and gore. The chorus here makes me think of Howard Jones from Killswitch Engage, as do most of your vocals. (That is meant in the best way possible, I love Howard.)

To whomever thinks "singing has no place in metal': where have you been for the last 30 years??? LOTS of metal has singing. Hardcore, grindcore, and other niche genres with only screaming are exactly that: just a couple genres among tons in metal. If you are really that picky that "all metal sucks except [this]" to you, you really don't listen to or understand metal: you are just a casual "fan" like most people who listen to pop music.

Anyone who can't admit the singer for this band has talent obviously doesn't have any taste. You don't have to like it, but he's so obviously talented it's like a punch in the face. Also for those of you complaining about clean vocals "having no place in metal" this is pure melodeath, clean vocals are melodic, therefore they fit perfectly with the style. Like I said I couldn't care less if you like the band, but saying they are talentless is pure ignorance.

Honestly, as being a huge fan of these guys since Pestilence & Wrapture I must say...this is pretty BAD ASS. I've only heard 3 songs from the album, and it needs more cleans. Across the Sun is epic!!! But one thing I can't stand is when people assume that once a band gets signed, they automatically sell out. If you know what the music business is like, then you know "struggle" The music business is not a walk in the park, you need help at times. Doesn't necessarily make you a sell out. I mean, come on, we are talking about Metal Blade Records here. Have you ever heard of any Metal Blade signed band say they changed up their style to sell more records for the Label?

Listen to The Ardent Optimist or The Sun Sets, the vocals are so much more powerful than Howard's. Let's face it, Howard lost it years ago. If you still don't agree that Brandon is a better vocalist you should probably ask whatever God you believe in for a refund on those ears, they're malfunctioning.

The thing about this dudes vocals is that they're more brutal. But there are certain points in the song where he sounds almost identical to Howard, I.e. 2:42
