Most of the people who believe what you have stated are self-centered Western nationalists who just cannot bare that their empire was compromised by such a diminutive, unarmed man. They NEED to rewrite history to save face, and the chronological overlap provides the perfect opportunity.
1) Pressure to allow independence was steadily increasing over decades, both from India and within Britain (many liberals, students, labourers sympathized with anti-colonial movements). It was a culmination of nearly a century of events, not a mere byproduct of 7 years of war
2) You're mixing up cause and effect: Gandhi's movement directly inspired or strengthened anti-colonial movements around the world. The fact that many occurred around the same time doesn't discount its uniqueness; it just goes to show the outward extension of its power.
3) Things didn't suddenly happen because of WW2: Latin America was almost entirely independent even before WWI, and huge waves of anti-imperialist sentiment arose in Europe following WWI. Regarding India, look at the Sepoy Rebellion way back in 1857 and tell me the anti-occupation sentiments in Gandhi's time arose spontaneously.

Many of us are used to seeing images and pictures of Gandhi. Infrequently do we hear his voice. It is, indeed, a full and robust voice. It doesn't quite match my conception of what he would sound like. I guess I accustomed to cheap Indian impersonator who speak daintily in a thin, squeeky voice. Many of us are used to seeing images and pictures of Gandhi. Infrequently do we hear his voice. It is, indeed, a full and robust voice. It doesn't quite match my conception of what he would sound like. I guess I accustomed to cheap Indian impersonator who speak daintily in a thin, squeeky voice.
