for once, one person that is right. u gotta have something in the morning before working out. well specially in my case. I've seen myself working out in the morning without eating and 10 minutes later i have to go back home.
I personally like to drink about 8-12 oz of grape juice or apple juice with 5 gram creatine, 3 gram arginine and some taurine when I wake up in the morning allow about an hour for it all to get well circulated into the system then begin my work out. doing this allows for sugar for insulin uptake for the creatine and all. after done working out drink a whey protein drink with some added glutamine for recovery.
BodyPerformance: Love your videos! I normally eat one scrambled egg (with hot sauce and black pepper), a bowl of cereal with a cup of milk (replaced by a PB&J sandwich on lifting days) , a protein shake, and a piece of fruit for breakfast, but that's all AFTER I do cardio. Would you recommend the fruit prior to working out, or some other temporal change?

@pyropakman That is a pointlessly large amount of protein I'll say that. Egg? Milk? Cereal? .....AND a protein shake? You might wanna review why in the world you need fifty grams of protein in the morning. Unless you're over 200 pounds of pure muscle there's absolutely no reason for all that protein in one meal.
So your saying fat is burned along with sugar at the same time? I always the sugar was burned first then the fat , If that's the case I should be drinking gatorade all day and working out all day, I'm gonna try it what the heck.
@ammar595 Theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Once there search Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve Turano
@ammar595 well, eat your greens too! and proteins of course! but yeah kinda, dont drink too much though, binge drinking (aha excuse the pun) can be bad for you, so only drink when you need to and as much as you need too!
but yeah, fat always burns with long exercise, in fact fat makes a LOT of energy, which is why our bodies love it and keep it, but i think its something like 1 sugar for 3 fats of energy to keep on going so like mentioned we only need so much.
what i did 3-4 times a week was drink a cup of dark coffee or green tea and get right to a moderately slow pace circuit workout, but only for about 10-15 minutes....i would jump rope and do burpees, i felt 10 minutes of this was alright and helped me cut fat and retain muscle mass.....don't overdue it though because you run the risk of using muscle as energy, listen to your body!

Peanut Butter has tons of calories and 80% of them come from fat. Eating less will help with weight loss. Eating a health cereal with skim or 1% milk would be much better.
nice video Steve i've been watching many of them. I have a question this may seem weird but im a peanut butter lover.
so like in the mornings instead of what u said is it alright if i eat like mabye 1/4 a cup of peanut butter instead? not sure if it would bring much sugar into the body or not. but i eat portions of peanut butter like 1/4 of a cup pretty often any advice on if i should cut it out or if its alright to do that in the morning or what? im 13 but im way way way over weight im 192
i have a big problem....i want to gain weight .....i dont know how to do this the best way....can you help me out Steve .....i'm 19 years old , weigh abou 74 kg and my height is 182 cm........

so tell me if my theory works. If I have a spoon full of honey before a workout, would that work according to what you said about sugar and fat burning at the same time?
Hi steve i hear what your saying- however my morning cardio consists of 20 minutes hiit running- i do this at the same pace whether iv eaten or not, i can manage the cardio (just about) Would you say i burn more fat then if i'd have had breakfast and then did the exact same cardio Thanks Rob in Ireland
I'd recommend a small bowel of oats (soaked overnight so you don't have to cook them), warm soya milk and half a tspn of raw honey in the morning for a fast release of energy over an extended period of exercise. Remember kids: Oats beat toast.

I use to go jogging in the morning on a empty stomach, I felt well the whole time (perhaps that was just me). I lost about 20 pounds in 2 months. 2 years since then, I gained those pounds again ;)
so true. I wish Steve would make a video addressing all the really obese people who are always looking for a shortcut or an easy way out. The truth is, unless your metabolism is unusually high in which case you probably wouldn't be obese, is that exercise is hard and it should be hard. If you are always looking for the easy version or the quickest way to burn fat and it makes you question whether it's legit or not, then you're probably doing it wrong.
how would you pass out? you pass out when your brain is recieving insufficient oxygen.
maybe if your holding your breath while running you would pass out. dont get me wrong, you will burn fat,but for extended periods of excercise(40-60min of cardio),with limited calories, your body want to hold on to its fat reserves and will in turn want to "switch" to burning into your muscle.just look at the difference between a long distance runners body and a marathon runners body
but does the physiology work like that? yes the wall is when your glygogen/carbs stores are gone, but when you push through that wall your body starts to use more fat...??
thats what i was thinkin as well, surely you wud have to be pretty mentally weak to not be able to push yourself through a small session in the morning. cant really compare it to a a marathon
Steve is the new guru of health. My dietary Sherpa. Steve deserves our support. I will do my part and buy 2 of his DVD's, if they are still available. One for me, and one for my sister and her family.
he just answered your question in the video. watch it again. he says you should have some sugar before your workout, but if you wanna do cardio on an empty stomach, do it.
Great tips. I was wondering what kind of effect performing two exercises at the same time would have, is it damaging, equally beneficial, or better(guessing not)? Say for example a curls and squats. It seems like the more muscles that are working at the same time, the more calories you are gonna burn, any perspective?
My personal opinion, if you try doing squats and curls at the same time then you won't be able to exert much force in either exercise and you may actually end up hurting yourself.
Exercise is all about intensity.. and trying to do those 2 things at the same time, I can tell you, you won't be able to do either correctly with much intensity.. and if you do try, you run the risk of serious injury.
Makes sense, maybe not the best example, maybe something like side arm raises with one arm and curls in the other. Because it's two different muscle groups at the same time, would it burn more and not be different from doing one, then the other, that's what I did, it felt like it was more difficult than doing one, then the other...
Well I imagine since you're doing more work you're using up more energy.. but again, it comes back to intensity..
I can tell you from experience, I rather do bicep curls with dumbbells one arm at a time so that I can concentrate on just that one action and exert as much force as I can.. also, doing 2 at a time or using a curl bar makes me feel lightheaded after a while whereas with single arm curls 1 at a time I feel I can exercise harder and longer by alternating..left-right 1-2, 1-2, 1-2 :D
