I had friend in my school, he is completely hopeless in playing guitar, so i'm helping him by teaching some song (basic song as more than words etc) until he can play guitar. 2 month or so later, i had him to teaching me f*cking barre chords.
one thing I just discovered is that you not only have to keep your finger straight on the guitar neck, you also have to keep your finger perfectly straight itself while pressing down. I tended to keep the last part of my finger straight, but the I had my hand a little bit too far towards me so it was a little bit bent at the beginning of my finger near the low e and B string. hope it helps (and you understand this ;p)
thanks a lot! this is a better technique for me because i used to used the fatty under side of my index finger. rotating it slightly anti-clockwise DOES make the bone more flat against the frets and produce a better sound!
wait i don't get it..so the pressure is mostly on the side of the index/barre finger?cauze i never get a noise out of the g,b,e string wen i pluck or strum.how do we streghten our fingers, meaning like make it stronger can someone tell me plz?
Same here. I never get any sound on my G,B,and e strings when I use this guys technique.
I think it works for him cause his fingers are "thicker" so he has more meat to throw around. Me, I am skinny with bony fingers and it doesn't work for me.
i'm also having problems i have an average finger.. i think xD its not the meat i can tell you that, all you need is the Bone, the meat actually makes it worse if u dont have enough pressure. so i hope that helped, its helping me so far, getting used to it
I think what I'm going to do is get my fretboard redone with really tall fretwire so that I can get more pressure on my index finger before it touches the fretboard. Maybe then my g-string will sound properly. I think that is easier than getting modifications done to my index finger...lol.
But now I have to find someplace that can do it after I get my telecaster neck in.
*sigh* never enough money to do all the things I want to do...lol.
a low action acoustic guitar helps alot though for people like us with average fingers, generally speaking the more money you spend on an acoustic guitar the easier it will be to play barre chords and other ones which usually require alot of strength, best thing is to go to your guitar store try a few out and obviously once you find one you like and are really comfortable playing with its worth buying, because then instead of being frustrated all the time, you will really enjoy playing more.
Everyone's fingers are different. If the G,B,E strings are dead make sure the creases on your finger are not directly on a string, this will deaden it. Your finger can be far over the top of the neck or not overlapping at all, depends on your finger.
only focus the pressure from the index finger on the strings that don't have any other fingers on them. for example, if you play Bmajor at the 7th fret, focus the pressure on the g,b,e strings as the others already have pressure on them from other fingers. hope this helps!!!
Thanks so much!!!! Now I can play barre chords!! :^D
