Indie labels are independent more or less by choice. Just look at Anticon records, some of the most talented artists have been signed by them...Sage Francis, Sole, Doseone. Another example would be Rhymesayers, which has signed such artists as Eyedea, Atmosphere. Next time you have an opinion, make sure you know what you're talking about.

Independent labels aren't necessarily a choice thing onto themselves, signing to one may or may not be depending on the artist. A lot more to it then just mainstream/indie.
