I left the shithole two years ago after living there since 1952, and am glad I did. Went back last Oct and it seemed very shabby and even fuller of foreigners than when I left. The new shire looks pathetic compared to those where I now live in bangkok and this is a 3rd world country. Leicester is a dump ruined by mass immigration and years of mis rule by the labour party. Urban planning though is probably the worst disaster, absolutely criminal.

Not like me at all actually. I live in a city where foreigners are a small minority, you live in one that has been given over to foreigners who now constitute the majority, bit of a difference. Leicester really is the arse hole of England and a social disgrace. Why don't you use a decent camera instead of what looks like mobile phone footage. Oh yeah another difference is shops here are no closing down by the score and we don't have foreign born mayors and MP's ripping off the public.

I left Leicester some 40+ years ago, It was not a bad place then as I remember it, though it has been disintegrating since the Roman Legions left. Seems I can hardly recognize it. re-construction might do it some good. The pedestrian malls will be rebuilt back to roads in another 20-25 years time. What happened to the trolley buses? I like it here in Sydney, Australia. And by the way, smoking on public transport here is a breach of the law. (shoot! there goes another Kangaroo...

there is actually a considerable amount of work being done on Leicester at the moment, I assume you don't live here anymore or you may have noticed that, you're right tho bits of charles street should be knocked down, the old GPO building would top of my list, it's being redeveloped and they've painted it blue!!!!

I don't live in Leic now but I go back a lot...I lived there most of my life until last March. I know they're knocking it about a bit, but last time I checked it seemed to be mostly empty flats for "professionals", a massive extension to the Shires, a 30-years-late pedestrianisation scheme, and not a whole lot else!

Don't get me wrong... I love Leicester (it's my home), but the regeneration company & city council seem to make decisions based on the fantasy that building a few high-profile landmarks will in any way improve the real quality of life for most people. There is nothing for the housing waiting list, not much to boost REAL employment, or to deal with the sink estates or the un-integrated transport system (you can't even transfer bus tickets between companies)...

I left Leicester about 25 years ago and haven´t been back Ilive in Spain now I think there should be more little tours like this as it made me feel quite homesick.

just to let a few of you know, leicester is currently being redeveloped, with a new shopping centre built where the old st margrets baths used to be, and lot's of streets being made pedestrianised, eg the high street now is.

wow...this brings back some memories. I used to go to Irwin College back in 94 to 96. The bus goes right by it. I also used to live on victoria parc road.
