  • For your information akm5176

I am actually studying Kabuki in grade 12 Drama. Kabuki was originally created BY women but became too "erotic". So males banned women from it and therefore took their roles. It is known that the renactment of Kabuki in Western culture is common and women can perform this. For example my Grade 12 assignment is a 4-6 minute Kabuki play renactment. I will thankfully use this make up video :-)

    Thanks

  • you just saved my theater history presentation!

  • haha cool! will you be doing a makeup for the presentation? take pictures if you do ^_^

  • I did the makeup - I think that one person got a cell phone image of it, so if I can get that from her, I will totally post it or somehow let you see it. It was rough - we had some kind of halloween white facepaint plus some red gunk. None of it was in any way good for what we were doing, but we made it work! Thanks again!

  • you just saved my theater history presentation!

  • I must agree on the previous notifications from JamesSchirmer and redfoxx9. But evenso, it's beautifuly done :D Your realy good. ^_^

    Realy nice :)

  • I have to agree with JamesSchirmer. It is true. But I do give you mad props for your heart being in the right place. With more research and practice you'll get it! ^_^ Good show!

  • The makeup pattern comes from Kabuki and considering that most western people who want to put on Kabuki makeup don't have the proper tools this is not a bad video for making Kabuki design easy for Halloween purposes or otherwise.

But stage wise and Kabuki performance wise, this is not how you put on Kabuki makeup. The theme in putting on Kabuki makeup is that you erase yourself then reacreate yourself through the character you are playing.

  • First you must get wax both for your face and eyebrows, the wax on your face will help keep your face from sweating under the lights and the wax on your eyebrows is to help erase them so you can place new ones on.

Then you use a wide Japanese makeup brush to swirl in the white grease esque paint then apply to the face with a few strokes, then use a sponge to dampen the white paint so the strokes don't appear on your face.

  • Make sure not only your face is covered but your ears and neck as well (in performance you try to cover all of your skin that shows in white, but then again that is for main characters not other character roles)

Once done applying the white makeup with the brush, you must now use the white powder to powder all the areas of your skin you painted in order to make the white really stand out.

  • Actually the tops of the ears and base of the neck shouldn't be covered, as to perserve the wig being worn. Also, the white base, oshiroi, is not grease, it is made from rice power. Oshiroi is applied with a wide palate knife first and then smoothed with a sponge in several layers. Then it is patted with a white powder to set it.

  • Once done powdering, then you can start to apply the colored makeup. The order of coloring all except underlining the area you'll color is in traditional style. Using only brushes, you put on the colors of the design one by one, this can be done with any paint.

After all this then you can put on whatever costume you desire, this makeup pattern is that of a ferocious/heroic male character.

  • hey pretty good, props

  • Where did you get the white foundation?

  • Wow, you are really good.

How you just draw everything perfectly.

    Good job!

  • Really cool!!! Please do tell me what make up you used.

  • its like warm blood on marble ;) beautiful

  • wow ur like pro and shit

    gud job!
