  • This song always makes me cry- it reminds me of my parents.

  • i missing my beloved wife so much xxx

  • How I miss the beauty of the marriage that my beloved mother and father had together. It was so pure, so true. I have modeled all of my relationships upon the fortune of seeing how a marriage between husband and wife should be and I will forever long for that. How did they do it? I say, without both people wanting that depth, there can be know bond.

  • How I miss my beloved wife, and my 12 year old son his beloved mother. The song touches my heart deeply. We miss you, Deb.

  • I hear this song and I want to that wife, that "beloved wife", as my grandmother and mother were. I don't know about race, hell, I don't care, because love has no color, no race, no prejudice, it just...is. I want it as it is expressed here, as my parents and grandparents have shown me it could be. At 42, I've nearly given up, but, this song says it can be. Thanks, Natalie.

  • I want to be that couple in 50 years time. If I make it that long I think we could be.

  • @AngelicPhantom - I'm 33 years there!

  • @jest2525 Well then you my friend rock my socks :D

  • "Oh I, can't believe, I've lost the very best of me" I can't help but cry thinking about my grandparents when I hear this song. 57 years married when my Grandmother died and my Grandfather was lost without here. Such a great love, I miss them both very much and hope that they are happy again together.

  • pygo1212's nasty racist comments aside, this song is one of the most beautiful Natalie Merchant songs and never fails to move me. The lyrics are so heartfelt and she sings them so amazingly, as she does with all her songs. She's one of the very best female singer songwriters of the past few decades.

  • @pygo1212 People like you really need to stop being so pathetic and making such lame comments. If you don't like Natalie Merchant's music and you don't like this video, why don't you go elsewhere and find something that does appeal to you? Good music, such as Natalie's, has nothing whatsoever to do with racism so I don't know why people like you seem to manage somehow to twist things around to try to make out that it does.

  • Most touching.

  • This is the song that popped in my head when I saw the picture of Reg Traviss after Amy Winehouse's unfortunate death. The look on his face was the true look of lost love. Only us who have felt it...REALLY felt it and had it taken away can understand that look. I love this song. Thank you for posting.

  • Your loud music was apparently very annoying. Natalie to the rescue.

I don't care what language she used. She's adorable.

  • this song is beautiful.....

  • This song makes me cry. What a great thing is to be loved. What a great thing is to be married to someone that loves you and cares for you and your time in this place, a companion in this journey, a whitness of our days, a partner, thru good and bad days, for the future and the memories, how sad when time does it's thing and breakes what was meant to be one for ever into a pieces of a puzzle that's lost meaning. I'm nothing without her, thanks for the upload.

  • @DrErkencho Amen,brother.

  • I think grandma's and grandpa's are the most beautifull people in the world.

  • it's vey sweet...<3

  • @U19720610 Su true and I'm Native American....

  • one of the saddest most beautiful songs ever written...

  • @pygo1212 you are wrong it fits the mood of the song

  • @pygo1212 good point

  • Sooooooooooooo beautiful!!!

  • This video is so touching and amazingly true in my Mother and Dads case. My beloved Mom passed away 4 years before my Dad after being married 52 years. He did not know what to do without her after she passed..it was truly so sad..Now they are both together in Heaven and I know they are happy again..one day I will join them..until then may they rest ever so peacefully... <3

  • Thumbs up if this song sends chills down your spine.

  • Looks and sounds like my mum and dad. But my Dad went first and she's still here at 87. We figure he's hanging around in the ether waiting for her. He never went anywhere without her.

  • Simply put, beautifully said.

  • This is a song from the album "Tigerlily". Natalie Merchant.

It says it all to me. How you can miss someone. To lose a loved one be it a parent or a friend, it hurts. To lose a husband/wifef after so many years is the cruellest of all.

This song says it to me with words I can't express. It's beautiful.

Our hearts beat but there is always someone who makes them beat for us....

  • Big Thanks Rodart 2006 for sharing such a Beautiful Song and Beautiful Collage of Images! God Bless You ;D <3<3<3

  • A very beautiful and sad song.I feel a lump in my throat everytime I listen to it.

  • I love this song....i weaped weaped weaped listening to this song...thank you for singing and writing this song

  • I'll never forget when and how I met Natalie Merchant. I was renovating a Lee's Famous Recipe chicken joint that had been abandoned for 4 years in the West End of Hartford, CT into "The Cosmic Bean" coffeehouse and my helper and I were listenijng to Kenny Wayne Shepherd full blast while Natalie was eating outside next door at Reader's Feast Cafe...she came over and said something to the effect: "can you turn your music the fuck down please" I did. What an honor to be chastised by Natalie....

  • @ZZZZAS is it true or are you just joking? :b

  • @ZZZZAS She makes herself out to be a humanitarian, and you tell me she's nothing but another Hollywood sellout, stuck up POS. That's a shame, I thought she may be different from the rest..... I was wrong. Lost all respect for Natalie. That's a shame, me and my Beloved Wife will look to a new song.

  • idiot??? just my thought.....pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!!!!

  • @ZZZZAS lol... serves you right for listening to justin fucking bieber around someone with true talent

  • @ZZZZAS How awesome is THAT! Congrats on the cuss-out by such a cool chick.

  • @ZZZZAS I was there at the "Reader's Feast Cafe" that day and it was not Natalie. She would never say something like that no matter how loud the music was...she has too much class.

  • @ZZZZAS Great story.

  • @ZZZZAS

    ssssssssstASWIPE :)

  • @ZZZZAS

    Classic

  • This is a beautiful song full of such true emotion. It is a song written about Natalie's grandparents. Although they were married on earth for abt 50+ years, their love for each other will last for eternity. The lyrics are based on a true story. Natalie's grandmother passed--------while gazing out at the sun a few days later, her grandfather (whose point of view the song is written from) said, "I should just turn my face away from the light" abt a day later he died of heartbreak.

  • Wow, what a deep deep song sung with real feeling.

Really really sorry to read the comments left by bpvogel, makes you realise just how fragile life really is.

  • This song is so beautiful and sad.

  • Not sure who you are but you are using a picture of my grams (at around 3:50). The picture was taken at my wedding, the last even she able to attend. She passed away in 2009. It is a beautiful tribute. Thank you =).

  • Not sure who you are but you are using a picture of my grams. She passed away in 2009. It is a beautiful tribute. Thank you =)

  • My father passed away at 48, my mother was 44. Whenever I hear this song I think of her and of her pain. They were best friends and she was never the same. She passed in 2004, twelve years after my father, and I like to believe that they are once again together.

  • I wonder how many more songs are dedicated to LOST wives or women than to husbands or men? Is it because women are more sensitive to other women or because women tend to DIE more in PEACE TIME?

  • Annie I will Love you always!

  • haunting song and video......thank you for a great post

  • My elderly father was married to my mother for 47 years and she passed away in 2001. In his grief, he married his childhood sweetheart, who he dated before he met my mother. They never slept together, and she died two years later. He's now 88 and alone. I cannot help but feel his pain when I hear this song.

Another song that makes me weep is Innocence Mission's "I Never Knew You From The Sun." Look it up on YouTube and read the lyrics. If you've ever lost a friend, you will understand. Peace

  • Beautiful...absolutely beautiful.

  • as a person who had a friend and wife for 20 years . you can stand me against a wall and you will only see only half a man ?. life go s on for grandad but its just not the same .and without . children in our life we are nothing ......

  • This brought sudden unexpected tears of emotion. not many songs have this effect on me.

  • manifique

  • ich liebe dieses Lied

  • its beautiful its so touching im crying just listening to it

  • I want to thank you for posting this. We live so fast, and it all seems like we wait for the next Big Thing, for Tomorrow, for whatever thing that makes our destiny. And, this video makes me think that the best days, the very best days, are the days we spend being with each other. My parents are older and become frail. As I see this video, I think of them and am moved by how much precious they are. Thank you for giving me this gift of sight.

  • @jaesaves and i in turn thank you for expressing the same sentiments i feel, this song certainly is sobering and i know that inevitably i will too have to bear the loss of one of my beloved parents...but the thought of either one of them without the other will be the most unbearable of all.....a very beautiful and moving song....

  • We're all old enough to realize now how fast time is going by.

Please, no matter how angry, sad, or aggravated you are, forgive and make it right tonight.

Soon there won't be another chance.

  • The most emotional and haunting voice in modern music. Bringing beauty to the pain and joy we all feel.

  • Ms. Merchant guts me with her songs...so beautiful and haunting

  • When you think about it life can be really beautiful. when you love some one.

  • This is amazing. Never take for granted what life gives you.

  • This song always makes me cry :(

  • Wow! That really hit home. My wife passed 4 yrs ago to a ruptured brain aneurysm. We were together for 13 yrs & she was 36 yrs old. Those last lyrics... "would it be wrong if I should just turn my face away from the light go with her tonight? " NM is not advocating suicide. People may not like those lyrics, but she is simply expressing raw emotions of grief. I asked that question many times because I missed my wife so bad. I moved thru the grief process & no longer feel that way, but I did.

  • @bpvogel - I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings. I think you've helped a lot of people by speaking so eloquently of your experience. Words of wisdom. Thank you.

  • @bpvogel That is great that you have been able to move on. I wish you the best.

  • @bpvogel So sorry for your loss. My wife passed on Jan.14 1999 at 48 after 28 yrs of marriage. I never remarried. My two Son's are my world and I'll be a grand dad for the 1st time in Dec. 2010. The grief went away, I still feel cheated out of someone to grow old with. I hope your life will find love and happiness again.

  • @henerymag I am also sorry about the loss of your wife, and thanks for the kind words. It's strange when you are grieving how a song you hear or something you read provides the inspiration for you to keep putting one foot in front of the other. For me, of all things, it was a Dr. Seuss quote: "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."

I try to remember that quote when I feel cheated. I thought I would share it in the hopes that it will also provide some comfort to you.

  • @bpvogel Thank you. I will remember that quote. Best wishes to you.

  • @bpvogel

I'm just beginning the process, in earnest, of trying to put one atom next to another, so shattering was the loss of the very best of me. I had lost words and the wit to arrange them in such order that I myself could understand them. I am grateful to Natalie and her grandfather for saying it all for me. This is exactly how I've felt for the last year and a half. It won't heal, but I am emerging out of my stupefaction, at last. Life is a miracle. I can't believe I still breathe.

  • @bpvogel wow man, i typed this in because i wanted my girlfriend back. You really have put a downer on that, cause i cant do that now!! But, I love the fact how you say you moved through the grief process, and you no longer feel that way, but you did!! Man, thats real emotion, you re-visit that time and time again! God bless you x

  • @bpvogel God bless you for sharing that!...Your in my prayers
