Yes, the punches and kicks are fake. The slams and so on are rehearsed so they don't hurt as much as they could. They may have even (and likely did) put a mat down for him. This still takes nuts of steel and probably hurts like hell when you hit the bottom. There is a huge difference between fake (it didn't happen) and staged (it was made safer than it looks).
