  • Because of you I got a 100% A+ on my exam yesterday thanks psychosides

  • I love you for helping me with my math homework and why are the top comments so long :|

  • Very clear teaching - looking at other videos explaining the same concept has made my head spin. This has restored my faith (confidence) in maths.

  • Thumbs up this method was precise and well understood.

  • Try thinking of different fraction types as different languages. The ones with the same number on the bottom are in th same language eg 3/7 and 5/7 and you can add & subtradt them. To change a fraction from one "language" into another you multiply top & bottom by a number. So 1/2 lets say is a word in English but if you multiply both top & bottom by 5 you get 5/10 which is the same "word" but in French. The fraction is the same size ie 1/2 = 5/10 but it's just written in a different language.

  • WOW I think I just got it! lol Lets hope it stick.

  • You make sence but for some reason I'm still lost. I don't know why. I guess I just don't get it.

  • i know right that guy really helped me because im in junior scholars which is higher than gifted or math and my teacher doesnt teach us anything

  • 2 words MATH SUCKS!!!!!!!! u don't even need half of this stuff in life and my parents when they were growing up they didn't learn this and they made it through life just fine.

  • @Crazen14 - Many people believe this, although what sucks is that kids are forced to learn stuff without being given a good reason. Many students do need these basic skills in order to go on to very useful areas of study but you are quite right society requires some young people to jump through hoops and they may never go on to use the skill. These videos are just there for those who want a bit of help with it , and for those who don't - well I guess they don't have to watch.

    PS

  • @psychosides Dude im not joking thanks to you, I got 100 on my math test! i ussually get an 80-95's but i got 100 just for watching 1 simple video. THANKS ALOT KEEP IT UP!!

  • @natethepain poop rocks

  • thank you! u helped me understand this!

  • Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!! Ahaaaaa lmbo lol!!

  • Can anyone help me with remainders? I just started this for woodshop and want to understand remainders more clearly.

  • thanks. this really helped

  • wow people say they dont understand how to do this and nobody pressd dislike

  • Thank you for this video. It is clear to me now.

  • Thanks alot! When my teacher explains this to me I didnt understand until I watched this. Thanks!

  • this is great, really clear! Have to teach it to my year 6s tomorrow (I'm a prac student and had to refresh this)

  • HEY I GOT A COMPLIMENT cool marker xD

  • thanks really much :)

  • thanks really much :)

  • 5/9 + 3/4 change both fractions to /36 First one multiply both top & bottom by 4. Second one multiply both by 9 . You should now have 20/36 + 27/36 add these together to get 47/36 since 36/36 is a whole one you have 1 & 11/36

  • @psychosides SIR, may i ask, what is the lowest term?

  • Thank you so much I had no Idea how to do this at all until I came across your video and now this seems so easy!

  • do you have a video with the same concept, but more complex? I need help with adding fractions that need factoring and have variables.

  • @squiddie96 sorry - these videos are aimed at basic arithmetic skills - I do plan to do a more advanced set of videos - probably algebra but cannot say when. There are however more advanced stuff already on the system - which is why i stuck to basic maths PS

  • OMG UR A LIFESAVER i didn't get my math worksheet at all. THANK YOU

  • Thank you so much! I wish you were my math instructor! Lucky students you have!

  • Thanks soooo much you helped me with my homework =)!!!!!

  • oooooooooooooooooooooh thanks man

  • ty acsent guy!

  • Thanku British dude!

  • Thanks I needed help with that

  • U THINK UR HELPING US

  • Not being facetious but its the same as adding in principle but obviously subtract the top numbers instead of adding. If you have a more specific issue i will try to reply

  • i dont understand subtracting fractions......anyone able to help me by any chance plz???

  • because 15 is a whole lol. So it would be a mixed number

  • thank you

  • Thank you for making this video i found it very helpful. Thanks

  • Thank you so much! im so happy you made this video im going to do well on my test now :)

  • wow thnx. this helped me alot :)

  • I couldn't remember how to do this, thanks a lot!

  • i dont understand the reducing part.?

  • @kigu321321 ifyou mean the cancelling down bit, hav a look at the video SLEP cancelling fractions this may help

  • @kigu321321

    ur a dumbass

  • wait, i don't understand the part where you simplify the answer?

  • How does he reduce from 22 to 7 ? the final answer should be 22/15 !!!!

  • @AAInventors Yes in the video the answer 22/15 is the answer as a "top heavy" fraction - (also known as a improper or vulgar fraction) Depending on the context of a question this may be sufficient however at GCSE level you would be expected to write this answer as a mixed number (ie whole & fraction) since 22/15 is more than a whole, the fraction is turned into 1 whole one (using 15/15) and therefore leaving 7/15 - see the video "SLEP Changing improper fractions into mixed numbers" for more info

  • @psychosides Got it...

  • THANK YOU! I am so nervous for sixth grade math! Thanks you you made everything so much easier! I forgot everything this summer about fractions and this made it so much easier Mr.! Thanks so much!

  • Im 26 yrs of age, i am, by no means unintelligent, however, my maths was poor, as far as adding numbers in my head, im far quicker than the average person, i just never paid attention to maths or the teachers during my time at school, i wish i had of now, i have a geniune interest in it now, i have viewed just about all your vids, and they are very, very helpful, thank you

  • I'm in the 6th grade and thi summer we're doing math packets with fractions in them so this really helped. Thanks for this great video!

  • what is ur last name??

  • @LiveLaughLove477 Psychosides is a nickname i've picked up - SLEP stands for Sheffield Leading Edge Partnership - my name is Pete Sides and I am based at Notre Dame High School in Sheffield South Yorkshire England

  • the answer should actually be 1 and 8 fifteenths not 1 and 7 fifeenths. The subraaction is wrong. But thats exactlly how you do it! :)

  • @keshasmusicrox1234 i think that you will find that the calculation on the video is correct - please double check with a calculator if you wish

  • Really appreciate the help, thankyou :)

  • thx, i wasn't paying attention in math class XP

  • thank you not even my teacher explains this clearly

  • thanks you very much u saved me from being grounded!

  • thanx. ")

  • hey,, can u get the right answer by multiplying the denminators???

  • yes one way of finding the common denominator is by multiplying the bottom numbers and there is a neat trick you can use but it isn't always the best method for example to add 7/12 and 11/24 you are better changing the 7/12 into 14/24 by multiplying top + bottom by 2 rather than changing both ractions to 288ths !!

  • thank you so much i was having so much problems with fraction thanks for clarifying and making it easy to get :D

  • Thank you i was so frustrated with this

  • u saved me thx

  • thnx bro:P

  • thank you =)

  • yea you helped me alot. im beingarcastic hohoho now im being santa claus

  • thank you that really helped and well explained P.S i wish my maths teacher was like you

  • ty u just saved my life!(:

  • thanx yuh rock i had so much trouble on my accelerated math but know wat to do

  • Thank you, you helped alot so I'm subscibing

  • ok i think i got it now but it did help thx

  • Thank you very much now im top of class xD

  • your a good teacher man you should teach math.

  • this really helped! :)

    thank youuu!

  • Thank you!

    :-) xxx

  • thankss !!!!! im subscribing

  • thanks ur awesome!!!!! but how do i add this:

1/2 + 3/5 becuz three and five both go into 15 but what about "2"

  • You need to change the bottom numbers into the same - so you need a number that they (2 & 5 ) go into - in this case 10.

    1/2 becomes 5/10

    and 3/5 becomes 6/10

now you can add 5/10 & 6/10 together which gives you 11/10 this is more than one whole one so we write 1 1/10 because 10/10 = 1 whole

    hope this helps

    PS

  • thank youuuuuuuu

  • OMG DUED I LOVE YOU!!!!!:D

  • wow im an idiot
