MAN...I was smoking weed one time with my friends when i was a teenager.

And before i knew it I was looking at myself from across the room.

I panicked big time...I kept on pop in and out of my body...but i could still move my body...SO strange...It must have been laced weed..with something like a mushroom...

Needless to say i quit drugs that day.I like my body and im staying IN IT until i die.

I don't think psychadelics can find greater ideas, it can help find something we already knew to be re-discovered as something maybe more. A meld of many ideas that completely blow our minds if they were able to come true. When we rethink our ideas after we are sober they are sometimes incoherent and minimal in being ground breaking, but theres a meaning in them which is concrete and new that we have never thought of. The redemption of the human spirit has to be felt and heard, not only seen.

wow, Im new to Terrance Mckenna, but he is right about hallucinogens. I've tripped mushrooms 5 times, and everytime they have opened my mind soo much. I think they help you look beyond everyday life, and problems, which is great considering how fucked up this world can be. This may sound a little crazy, but I'm not religious. I think hallucinogens (especially mushrooms) are like a baptism/or cleansing for your mind. Thats just my opinion though lol.

If you want to gain anything from the psychedelic expierence then you must be willing to learn instead of assume that you know it all. If you go to a wise man or you go to some other institution of learning with a closed mind and never pay attention, dont expect to gain any knowlege. I bought his book, the food of the gods, and read it all the way through. i am kind of against drug usage-it is not very responsible, though I have tripped on lds, and shrooms in the same way mckenna mentions. maybe I opened some doors that non users will never experience that helped me in my real world. Lsd induces an altered state of mind but should not be used lightly. Bush needs to take a hit or two.
