you forget the "0" or "100" that was counted just after the 99. The game can't dispay 100 or 0 for hit(s) but it was counted. (You can see the little time just after 99, it's for "0" (or "100") and "1".
So it's technically a total of 102 hits.
And sorry to tell that the dumb ass was not the one you thought. :p
