  • Flew quite well even with one wing.

  • the long walk of shame begins with a single step

  • @5quarter

No shame here. The plane was old and falling apart so it got a Viking Funeral as a send-off.

  • I love your style guy, it screams khaos

  • this was on rc groups and it was called "viking funeral"

  • hm..if the wings have a v-shape of about 20 degrees each side..you should be warned :D...but ok..you are the one to blame ;)

  • That was awesome, I mean all those years of service and the fun it gave you. I would try to some how fix it and put her on your wall are something.....joe connick

  • @connickjoseph It's an rc glider, not a beloved pet for God's sake.. One must make room for the new..

  • Reading your comments, it seems you wanted to destroy the aircraft deliberately.

Bit of a waste really considering it's age & looks... you vould have given it away or sold it?

  • @xoio

It would seem that way at first glance but it had several worn out servos that would require digging them out of the wings plus the fuselage and wings had multiple repairs hidden under layers of repair tape. I felt unsafe flying it around anyone other than myself and friend (hiding behind my truck) on this final mission. It would have been smashed and thrown in the trash otherwise. I just had a different way to smash it other than using my feet.

  • @slickraft

Well it was a spectacular end. I guess it would have failed its D check :-D

It made a great sound through the air though....

  • @slickraft What a load of crap! You're under arrest for cruelty to an aircraft!! You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and shall be used against you in a court of law, you have the right to an attorney.... blah blah blah LOL

Did the wing have a solid or tubular carbon fiber rod for reinforcement?

  • @JaleelJohanson62 Did the wing have a solid or tubular carbon fiber rod for reinforcement?

Neither. It was one of the original Multiplex DG600 kits from 25-30 years ago. It used spring steel wing blades, not tubes. No one was using carbon fiber for hobby stuff in those days.

  • @slickraft Just after I asked you the question I read down further and saw that you answered it already. I'm now guilty of being one of those annoying people who ask before they read. LOL

It didn't fly too badly on one wing! LOL

One more thing.. killing a current glider in the future with carbon fiber wing reinforcement might prove to be a challenge. I await your next video! LOL

  • Pretty impressive way to send her off, i thought she was going to go a long time before she did. Fitting high climax end

  • @cayote64

Amazingly I flew it like that all weekend. Multiplex made some incredible kits 20 years ago. This was the original DG600 with the spring steel wing blades, not the re-release that came later with a wing tube. This plane was an antique and part of the reason it got retired. I bet I have an hours worth of video like this thinking it would go at any minute but I really had to push it to the end.

  • That plane *sounded* more awesome than purpose-built DS planes, and checked out with style...

  • awsome and a well earned buriel would love to of seen the debri great vid guys :)

  • Sorry - this is not a wing fail but a pilot fail ... just stupid

  • @kerog64 Sorry-viewer failure to read description before commenting.

  • lol DSing a DG600 that's awesome. Joe Wurts was at parker 2 weeks ago and showed everyone up with someone else's plane it was great.

  • HAHAhAHAHA one of my fav vids on utube! LOLLL!

  • cwould you not slow down when it was bending so much or do gliders do that alot, sorry i mainly fly aerobatic planes

  • @peterm8133 Read descriptuon. Flew to "Viking Funeral" ending by intention of retiring old airframe with a bang.

  • Whoa. You said this thing was about 20 years old. The wing flutter shows.

But better to go out with a bang than a whimper, right?

  • @RRVCrinale Exactly.

  • Get over it. I would have thrown it in the trash anyway. It was an airframe that had been repaired many, many times and was not worth keeping.

  • fail ^^

  • Yes, a failure was planned and expected to occur.

  • What I got love, is that the speeds you are taking about with this scale ship are approaching the Vne (Never Exceed Speed for those that don't know the term) of my full size sailplane! I love how poignantly the model sailplane community has proved the practical implementation of dynamic soaring; now we just have to manage it with a full size ship, mind you on a much smaller scale (no pun intended) in terms of G.

  • This video was filmed at Parker Mountain where the legendary R/C pilot Joe Wurts began intruducing DS Soaring to the R/C community years ago. Enjoy your full scale soaring. I'll keep my feet on the ground. Take care.

  • I've never seen a DG 600 with that much dihedral. It is not meant for pylon style of flying. Induce a failure is very dangerous to those by standers. Simply crash it to a rock.

  • D'oh!!!! I must have missed the "No Pylon Style Flying" warning message on the box. Silly me. No one was on the hill except me and my friend (filming from behind my truck). Go away.

  • Wundert sich jemand???

  • Yes, the failure was expected from such a high stress flight. It was time to retire the model due to many previous crashes and repairs making it weak.

  • Slope dopes should stick with Gas. This comment is not meant for the video owner.

  • Speaking of dope....maybe you shouldn't smoke any more.

  • Well, when I watched this I thought... this guy is really asking for it. Then I read your comments here lol. Good show I've done the same with old airplanes. Sad in a way to see them go down but what is there to do with a old crate really? It's a one shot show, a plane rarely go down more than once but it can be a spectaculare one.

  • wow that not good! what speed was it doing?

  • It's not a fast airframe. Scale ships have lots of drag compared to dedicated slope ships. I have clocked it before at 139 MPH but I doubt I was near that fast when the failure occured.

  • haaa haaaaa!!! OWNED!!!

  • Not really "owned" since my intention was to induce failure and retire the ship in a "viking funeral" procedure.

  • jajaja.. destroyed like the race in Star Wars ¨The Phantom Menace¨

  • That was one of the longest 1/2 wing glides I've ever seen, and I have folded a few in my time! ;)

  • Did you get the bird back?

  • Sure. All the bits were recovered. Don't want to trash the slope with debris.

  • god... watch the wings!!! i did that before, its amazine what forethought can do for you!!! lol

  • Haa Haa!

  • It just aint built for DS

  • You think? It was a Viking Funeral planned in advance for a very tired old ship.

  • i have to admit it was pretty funny

  • .. is it just me or did anyone else see that the wingtips were almost touching, yet he didn't stop.

  • Actually I'm amazed at how long it hung-in there for. Nice piece of kit (past-tense) that glider.

  • yes, i thought the same, he had time to stop doing that and save the plane, it was obvious it was going to hapen

  • a friend of yours? what did you give your friend? an overdose of crack?

  • lol good effort. Was gettin up a good speed there

  • Wow! Does it really make that cool sound?

  • Yes. The audio was not manipulated.

  • damn those are strong winds, sad for loss though....

  • how much are cheap, but not crappy, remote control planes atm?

  • 60 dollars

  • ok thank

  • era velocissimo.. come mai??

  • Search for "Dynamic Soaring" on Google or Wikipedia.

  • era un aliante?

  • Yes

  • turning that hard and fast with an 80's mpx plane u r asking for it

  • Yes, I was.

  • nice to see how much they bend before they SNAP. what sort of construction?

  • The was a very old Multiplex DG600 and one of the most enjoyable scale planes I ever flew. After many years it was time to retire it. The construction was obechi over white bead foam with iron on covering film. It used simple metal wing blades like all old school Multiplex kits from the 70&80s. The wing failed in compression on the top starting at the spoiler bay.

  • Glider on crack!.

  • If you your wingspan was only better...

  • rofl goodie

  • Dynamic soaring a DG600??? First for everything I guess!

  • What better way to dispose of an old ship ;)

  • well, you deserve it lol

  • that was the best glider death ive ever seen. nice one 5 stars.

  • dude too much dihedral or not enough wing reinforcement sorry bout that man

  • haha wing failure ma a**! you drove it to the ground!!!

  • Yes, the "Viking Funeral" I mentioned in the description pretty much tells you I intentionally flew the plane to failure. It was well past its prime and had multiple boom snaps and repairs as well as some very tired servos. It survived a whole weekend of such punishment until about an hour before we had to leave to drive back to Phoenix. Just enough time to recover all the bits including the rugged pilot figure, Captain Kirk. :)

  • damn!

  • long walk ahead

  • awesome!!

  • awesome!!

  • nice diheadral

  • There's nothing sadder than that sound of balsa crunching... but at least it was on purpose, this time. ;o)

  • ohgeez

  • You were asking for that!

  • agreed. it's a glider.

  • Eject...Eject...Eject...!!lol

  • UUhhh- bad end!

    Who has made the plane!

No bad for a big on to hav DS!

    Jo

  • I too held the Viking funeral for several of my old slope gliders. I have no use of these slope gliders anymore. They are now resting in peace on the dark side of DS slopes.

  • i agree, this plane wasn´t for DS action

  • No kidding? You mean an old scale ship with 5-6 previous crash repairs

wasn't up to the task? This plane was being retired and I intentionally gave it a viking funeral off into DS territory. Read the description.

  • bugger...

  • i think, this plane wasn´t for DS action:)

  • hihihihi
